I'm sure the rest of the RAM will be opened with the new OS after WWDC. Otherwise it makes no sense.

Where exactly did they see that published before purchase? Riddle me that Batman!

That’s been kind of the summary for most reviews out there so far: great hardware same OS. That’s also the summary of most iPad Pro reviews over the last half decade. Sure you won’t find that on Cupertino’s ads but the person getting an iPad Pro now are geeks and nerds and existing users that have the experience.

I guess it's to make sure that an app will work properly on older iPads with less RAM? And even with this limit it's still better to have more RAM, because at 16GB you might be able to switch between 3 apps without any of them being "unloaded from RAM" in the background, while on the 8GB variant you won't even manage to have 2 apps using 5GB without unloading & reloading RAM content.

Unless the SKUs that Apple used of the M1 are packaged up in a way that 8/16GB are the only options. People are assuming that Apple increased the RAM for some master plan, which maybe the case, but it could just be the result of using the M1. It may have been cheaper for them to do this than to create a new SKU for the 2021 iPad Pro.

no they cant the 1tb m1 chip has 16gb ram thats how its made for the Mac etc, they cant change the chip they are just using the same batch and like I said that m1 chip has 16gb ram on 1tb and higher thats it
Why do you need repeating this like it's a bad thing?

It's a good thing that Apple uses the same chip across the board. It's good for Apple to increase their profit margins and it's good that customers continue to reap the benefits of Apple silicon like they have since the A4 with a chip that's powerful enough to run a desktop computer.

People need to understand on the macbook the 1tb comes with 16gb ram it’s the same m1 chip the iPad was never meant to need the more power, it’s just cheaper for apple to use one chip in all devices that’s the only reason the 1tb one has 16gb that’s the way the chip was made, people must stop thinking ipados15 will change anything, it’s a bit of a scam from apple
I really wanted to disagree with this sentiment...my argument was going to be that if Apple posted this as a feature then it would be an issue addressed in in a software update. So I went to apple's iPad's 'learn more' section. Lots of M1 highlights...screen...5G, wifi 6, camera...but not one mention of 16gb ram...

Then why not just use the 8GB M1 across all the storage configurations then?

This just tells me that we’re in store for some big iPadOS news at WWDC. It doesn’t make sense that Apple would add all of this headroom for nothing.
Except it does in some ways…

Since you can’t limit an app to a specific model, this ensures that any developer has to support the older iPad models too.

Then there’s multitasking, if you allowed apps say 12gb of ram, what happens when they are both open in split view? iPadOS doesn’t have the same ram management as traditional desktop OSs so it just doesn’t work.

I hope wwdc brings big updates, but I’m doubtful now.

iPad Pro, specifically the M1 model, will need to gain a lot of M1/iPad Pro only features. I love how quickly we got to the stage from ‘we need to split iPad away from iOS’ to ‘we need to split iPad Pro away from the base iPad’. The latter I don’t think they will do just yet unfortunately.

This just isn’t true though, is it. Why don’t you get your facts straight prior to repeatedly spouting nonsense? Just makes you look foolish.
The iScam Pro 2021
Did you think of that all by yourself?

Because 1tb and higher m1 has 16gb that’s the chip they used they don’t mention it as a feature, no app will only work on a few iPads out there they are made for all of them, people that brought the 1tb just for 16gb kinda got scammed

iOS 15 will most certainly open this up … if developers make all these apps with high ram limits, then older iPads will not be able to utilize them … so this is tricky. There might need to be an iPad Pro M1 specific app section, causing developers to make multiple versions of the app that utilizes different Ram, for optimization … WWDC will be interesting, it will likely feature lots of specific apps.

Again understand the only reason it has 16gb ram is because the 1tb and higher Mac has that built in the m1 chip they just used the same chip to save money that’s it
As per Occam's razor and Cook's signature corner-cutting to product design/updates, I'm pretty sure that's the case.

I know it’s the chip they used. But people need to understand that the storage is not in the M1, so it’s not like they put in the M1 16GB because it’s the one with 1TB storage baked-in, because it’s not.

@Kylo83 please stop talking rubbish. Here you go m1 MacBook Pro 13”. Clearly the ram isn’t tied to storage. Please stop insisting it is with every post now. Thanks.

Still returning. Because the difference from 2018 hardware alone isn’t significant enough. But all apple has to do is one simple thing. Allow macOS to run on it. Heck I’d get the 1 or 2 tb one then.
Massive difference from 2018, M1 chip, 8gb/16gb ram, faster ssd, wifi 6, mini led and more.

Feel like you purchased your iPad hoping that macOS will be coming to the iPad, this will never happen, not in the near future at least.

Best thing you can hope for is some pro features and pro apps being added at wwdc.

If that isn’t enough for you, then you did the right thing returning your iPad 👍

Even with that, unless you want to jump on the beta train you won't get the payoff for it until the fall.
