CNBC had some good footage of Apple on the Closing Bell Yesterday detailing their 30th. I forget the guy's name, but the one who always Covers Apple's events for them was @ the Campus in Cupertino.
I realize some are, but not nearly to the extend that Microsoft got. If Apple decided to come out with some very cool products today, they could get a lot of free advertising.

You cannot compare a Windows laptop to a Mac laptop. Just the fact that Apple has OS X is worth the extra £50! Is £50 worth it so you don't have to worry about virus's, spyware, trojan horses, worms, hackers, phishers, ect?! Not to mention that bloody Office paperclip!!! To top it of, you get the best "community support" in the world-MacRumors :D

But that would be stupid. If they announced these products 1-2 weeks from now, it would not get nearly the same amount of media coverage. If Apple had the event today it would bring hype to their 30th anniversary (which most media at this point are ignoring) along with the new products that would seem a little more "special" because it came out on their anniversary.

I really doubt there will be an event. They don't need the publicity.. type "apple" into google news right now... everyone is already talking. I am really REALLY hoping for a silent update to their website Monday or Tuesday.

ChrisG - agree about the OS X... but I can go buy that Dell, right now.

Yes but the nearest laptop in terms of specs (Macbook Pro) Apple have to that is £781 more than the Dell

When I type "Apple Computer" into Google, I get 411,000,000 results; when I type "Microsoft" into Google, I get 2,360,000,000 results. Besides, Internet stories aren't really that important; I want Apple to get on the TV news.

Apple DOES need publicity. Last time I checked, their market share was still below 5%. :(

April first birthday surprise

Dhani Harrison, Paul McCartney, Sean & Julian Lennon, Ringo, Jobs & Woz may be planning to celebrate an Apple reunion concert.

Not to mention that the GMA 900 wouldn't pass the Vista requirement.

http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/index.htm

They'll have to upgrade the hardware.

The more I think about this the more I get the feeling something is up.
The fact that Apple is ignoring their 30th, not even adding a graphic to their site, is just too weird.
If they had acknowledged it I'd say there's nothing coming but I have a feeling something will happen next week.
It's only normal that they would post a "happy birthday to us", unless they're taking advice from Tony Soprano's Mother.
Something's going on here...it's too quiet!

Boring....

This is the most boring birthday party I have ever been at! Where are the goodies... MacBook, V iPod, other gadgets?

Shoot!

Which is hilarious. It'll do Core Image and Core Video and all of Tiger's fancy stuff, but not Vista's Aero whatever graphics. It'll still run Vista (well, in theory, now that MS dropped EFI from the initial versions), just not the fancy graphics stuff.

We didn't pull this out of a hat. Though he never promised anything, at MacWorld, Steve Jobs gave everyone the impression we should expect something to happen today.
Well putting all your eggs into an impression basket is your bad. Point blank Apple didnt promise you anything by any date.

My typo - it's a GMA950 which does fully support Vista - and of course for $99 you could get the X1300 with 128MiB dedicated VRAM.

Any Intel Core chipset with integrated graphics has the 950.

And, BTW, isn't Apple shipping systems today that can't handle all the eye candy of the *current* OSX? That's lots of nerve to harp on Dell for not supporting a future OS (especially since it was a mistake).

I've thought the same thing. The "normal" thing would've been to post a little something on their website to at least acknowledge the fact that it was their 30th.

The fact that there has been no mention of it makes me wonder. My thoughts today were just "that's too weird for Apple". They've gotta be cooking something up for Tuesday, or 11:59pm tonight, or something. Not even the store has gone down today.

Yeah, Apple at least owes us party favors.

If they had wanted to issue a new product only on a weekday, in conjunction with their birthday, I think it would have been yesterday (Friday). I doubt they would let the occasion pass and THEN issue something next week.

You mean WILL eventually support Vista maybe, assuming they ever have the guts to release it. Possibly.

Or they could pull a Google, and just leave it in Beta FOREVER.

Somebody wake up Apple!

They are going to miss their birthday! :(

C'mon Apple... wake up!

aren't most released MS products Beta anyway?

:)

When Steve was not in charge they released the TAM. Maybe Apple just doesnt do stuff like that anymore. If they just end up releasing another iPod as part of any anniversary I will just roll my eyes and sigh. If tuesday passes and nothing happens it will be time to move on.
