The other day I got thanked for walking in the grass to pass someone on a bike who didn’t have enough room to move over, so that gave me a small thing to smile about. And getting the occasional thumbs up from people on the sidewalk on the other side of the road is also nice. Glad to see some people still have good spirit in them during this mess. Good luck to everyone having to adjust their typical exercise routine to get this award, you’ve got this!!
I definitely get a few more waves and smiles when I'm out. There is a spirit of shared adversity among many.

I still most often drive to small trailheads along my favorite paved trail to run. It is wide and much easier to dodge people than if I run around my neighborhood, and it runs "forever." (This southern segment is about 75 miles/120 km long, but it branches off in a few places and continues a few hundred miles north to the Cleveland area.)

I feel for my friends on Strava in places who have restrictions on getting out for exercise. One gentleman in Spain has been running laps around the roof of his building. I'm not sure if that would be better than or worse than a treadmill.

IS anyone else disappointed that the Health app couldn't have considered the pandemic when issuing the awards?

Is there a way that Apple Watch can show splits for a 5k? So I don't have to keep an eye on the mileage and stop the workout at 3.1 miles exactly?

I think you need to try 3rd party apps for that. For runs, I use Runkeeper, but even it doesn't stop the activity at 3.1. The apps I've tried will all record your total activity, not stop at a particular distance. Hopefully, someone else knows of a way to do that.

No, it hasn't changed my habits at all.
Personally I wouldn't want to catch the illness or risk it just to get a dumb award. You'd think though that Apple would have factored that in for those in lockdown or such. Seems odd that it carries on issuing goals that are dangerous to try to get lately, as if there were no pandemic at all.

but then who am I kidding? The Apple Watch despite me entering in my health data still expects me to perform like a star athelete so I gave up trying to earn the goals. I'm a tiny man with hardly any muscle mass and weigh like 125 lbs. I cannot perform like a star runner. There's no way to adjust the awards or get it to realize I'm not an athlete. I would break one goal only to get an unacheivable one the next round. That and coupled with the broken ECG for folks with an above-average resting BPM is stupid too.

So, I never said anything about risking illness. I can get out exercise and social distance with no problem. Getting supplies, however I’m at great risk. Sorry the watch doesn’t work for you.

Isn't there a chance at getting the illness via the air though? I would exercise but all the parks I frequent are closed down. In some states people are not even supposed to leave their home except for food or drugs.

The watch works fine for me. It's excellent to leave my phone at home and still get my texts, listen to music, use Apple Pay, and, of course, tell the time.

But the health aspect needs major work. There is a setting on Galaxy Watch to adjust your desired activity level from light, normal or heavy or such. This adjusts the level of exercise required to earn badges. You also get a setting to either gain or lose weight or maintain your current weight. There is only one way for the Apple Watch--it assumes everyone is one in the same. I got a March goal to do 4,093 calories PER DAY. I'd give myself a stroke trying that! I can barely pass 500 calories a day burned. Any more and I'd be consuming fast food all the time to gain calories back or end up being the skeleton man weighing in at like 75 lbs. How is that healthy, Apple? Not everyone needs to lose weight! How about a maintain option?

I still think that it adjusting for covid 19 would be a nice gesture though. Just imagine if the Watch existed for those in the Katrina disaster. Oh, forget about the major flood and damage, just close your exercise ring a few times a month!

It'd also be neat if it adjusted the level of exercise based on how many times you met a goal or not. Such as if you couldn't meet your goal one month, you get an easier one the next time. But it just keeps assuming we are all superheroes or something or want to be a body builder.

No one forces you to participate. Here’s an idea:

There are plenty of apps that allow you to set your own goals. Go find one of them, and set your own challenge. You don’t have to just follow Apple’s recommendation all the time. Do your own thing!!

If you’re upset because your watch isn’t adjusting for the virus or you can’t set goals and such then please take that conversation to a different thread. This is a positive thread where we encourage people to hit their monthly goals. If you can’t do it for whatever reason, no big deal, it’s just a virtual badge. No reason to get upset.

Any of those apps compatible with the Apple Watch? I'm open to recommendations.

Do you try Nike Run Club? I think there is an guided workout option with different distances (5k, 10k etc.) and while running "coach" tells you how far you are with your run. Did you mean something like that or I missunderstood your question?

At first I thought exactly but now when I am at the end of my April Challenge (I have almost 25.000 calories of my 34.500 goal) and it really bends my limits. But now I see that my previous goal was really low - 800 calories, now I need to do 1150 kcal a day to mantain this months goal but It's not that hard.
I think I was lucky to get this kint of Challenge but if my goal would be something with distance (run or walk) I would fail because of this lockdown. I don't wanna risk gettig a ticket or even worst - loosing my health.

Hopefully they put out a challenge that can easily be done from the comfort of home for those unable to get out
Many of the challenges are time or effort based, not distance. In 2019, I had a total of 3 distance challenges, with none so far this year.

Good spot. Since the Challenges started in Oct 2017 I have only had 5 distance challenges - most miles was:

Yeah maybe. When I walk say 2.5 miles, at the end of the outdoor walking workout it will give me my min/mile splits.
It would be nice if I could pick at 5k walk and have it give me 1,2,3,3.1 min/mile splits.....or at least the 5k time. This would allow me to finish and then press stop, instead of waiting for 3.09 miles to flip to 3.1 and press stop. Basically it's a distraction, especially if running to have to do that to see what the 5k time really is.

I don't run, but hope to in the future.
