IS anyone else disappointed that the Health app couldn't have considered the pandemic when issuing the awards?

I'm frustrated to have a distance based challenge this month (walk/run 103.5 miles). That’s pretty hard given that I’m staying home (I care for an elderly parent). I’ll close the rings every day but probably won’t get the April challenge as home based exercise won’t achieve the necessary distance.

I know it’s not important in the greater scheme of things but a calorie or exercise minutes based challenge would encourage me to exercise whereas a distance based one seems mockingly irrelevant.

Here’s a novel idea. Set your own goal to challenge yourself. Don’t be driven by some silly little graphic on your phone.

No, hopefully they make it a CHALLENGE to complete. It’s called a CHALLENGE, not a GIMME!!

Hopefully they put out a challenge that can easily be done from the comfort of home for those unable to get out

Fixed it :)

but then who am I kidding? The Apple Watch despite me entering in my health data still expects me to perform like a star athelete so I gave up trying to earn the goals. I'm a tiny man with hardly any muscle mass and weigh like 125 lbs. I cannot perform like a star runner. There's no way to adjust the awards or get it to realize I'm not an athlete. I would break one goal only to get an unacheivable one the next round. That and coupled with the broken ECG for folks with an above-average resting BPM is stupid too.
125 lbs and thin sounds like the build of a born distance runner to me. Men's world records have been set by gentlemen with those characteristics. Recently-retired American marathon great Meb Keflezghi is listed at 5'5", 127#. He won an Olympic silver medal in 2004 in Athens, and he won the NYC and Boston Marathons.

Isn't there a chance at getting the illness via the air though? I would exercise but all the parks I frequent are closed down. In some states people are not even supposed to leave their home except for food or drugs.
Quite the contrary, there is essentially no evidence of outdoor transmission, certainly not with proper distancing.

And there are no US states where you are not allowed to leave the house to exercise. (There are more restrictions in many countries outside the US--and I believe in Puerto Rico. I have Strava friends in France and Puerto Rico who run miles doing laps around their block because they are not allowed to go far from home. One friend in Spain even runs 5Ks doing laps around the perimeter of the roof on his apartment building.)

But the health aspect needs major work. There is a setting on Galaxy Watch to adjust your desired activity level from light, normal or heavy or such. This adjusts the level of exercise required to earn badges. You also get a setting to either gain or lose weight or maintain your current weight. There is only one way for the Apple Watch--it assumes everyone is one in the same. I got a March goal to do 4,093 calories PER DAY. I'd give myself a stroke trying that! I can barely pass 500 calories a day burned. Any more and I'd be consuming fast food all the time to gain calories back or end up being the skeleton man weighing in at like 75 lbs. How is that healthy, Apple? Not everyone needs to lose weight! How about a maintain option?
I don't understand this complaint. All goals are calibrated to *your* past activity. It's not going to give you a goal of 4,093 calories per day unless you did nearly that amount in prior months. If it did, then it is a bug that should be reported.

It is possible for those incremental goals to go too far. The Watch will keep upping the ante slightly without regard to training schedules, weather, or simply the need to cutback for a month. That's why I've only achieved 8/12 monthly challenges each of the last two years. No one forces me to push for an inappropriate goal.

Yeah maybe. When I walk say 2.5 miles, at the end of the outdoor walking workout it will give me my min/mile splits.
It would be nice if I could pick at 5k walk and have it give me 1,2,3,3.1 min/mile splits.....or at least the 5k time. This would allow me to finish and then press stop, instead of waiting for 3.09 miles to flip to 3.1 and press stop. Basically it's a distraction, especially if running to have to do that to see what the 5k time really is.

I don't run, but hope to in the future.
I use the Intervals Pro app when I do workouts, and afterwards it will show the time for the specific segments I program. And there is a fully functional Watch app. (Most of the time, though, I just run with the stock app.) It may be overkill for what you want, though. I don't recall if there is a free version or not.

Look, you download for example this 5K run and during this run (or walk) this „coach” tells you where you are in this distance (first 1km, half distance etc.). And this app automatically stops after reaching this distance (you can resume it if you want)

I gave up on mine pretty quickly. Trying to walk 193 miles in one month wasn’t Going to happen unless I was at work, but I was furloughed at the end of March.

Hopefully they put out a challenge that can easily be done from the comfort of home for those unable to get out

No ya didn’t. You just showed us what the entitlement mentality so prevalent in today’s society looks like.

Please let it go, you misunderstood my reply. I did not mean give me a "easy" challenge of twirling on my toes three times for a badge. I simply meant give us something we can do at home, since it was an earth day challenge and we are not allowed to go to parks, don't tell me to go run in the woods for an hour for the badge. You have yourself a great day.

Double my move goal of 1180 cal twice this month. Should be easy as mowing the grass twice should do it.
Dang! I cut the grass yesterday after getting up and forgot to wear my watch!! Oh well I'lll just have to remember the next two times :)
Well I remembered this weekend to wear the watch while cutting the grass.
Ended the day with a bit over 20k steps as well.

Bring on May!

Oh BTW Apple Watch is quite persistent in it's coaching. This morning (930am) after a 28 min walk it notified me that my exercise ring was lacking 28/30 min.... geez gimme some time to have a bagel!

I hate it when it notifies me that I'm behind for the day lol. Maybe I want to sleep in every now and again Apple, geez!

Fish, Fish I got my wish, I guess you could say.

I stated in last months thread yesterday that these are CHALLENGES and I hoped they’d try to kick all our butts. Well, some of you didn’t get hit too bad, but I certainly did.

The message hit my phone just after midnight tonight announcing my challenge.

The interesting thing to me is, based on the numbers they showed for the calculation, I was around 70 minutes per day on average, which they told me to match. My actual challenge though says 2,700 total exercise minutes, which is 90 per day.

This will definitely CHALLENGE me. I’ve got the time. Do I have the will? My basketball referee season ended early due to the virus. That’s probably a blessing, as it could have driven my challenge number even higher if I’d worked games for 3 more weeks.

I never exercise on Sundays, so that changes the equation to 103 minutes needed per day, an almost 50% increase above what I’ve been doing.

I did commit yesterday to participating in a challenge I tried a few times several years ago - #30DaysOfBiking. I’ve never succeeded. This year, I will succeed. I’ve gotta go for a ride EVERY DAY OF THE MONTH.

I want you all to hold me accountable. Call me out. Ask for updates. CHALLENGE ME!!

I’ve got this.

I better hit the hay.

Well, it took effort. They didn’t just give it to me, but I worked at it. And I DID IT!!! YO ADRIAN - I DID IT!!

No whining. No complaining. Just busted my ass. And lost 9 lbs this month in the process.

I’m gonna go have a bowl of ice cream now while I look at this pixelated medal!!!
