Why? Because myths, lies, (and videotapes) still exist about the Mac.
The security guard where I work is looking to buy his first computer and only wants to spend around $700. He's going with a Dell because he can get everything he wants, monitor included, for a good price.
His opinion about Apple...? He knew a guy back in the 80's who told him that any business who wants a real computer buys an IBM - any business or anybody who buys an Apple Computer is buying it to have a "toy." Supposedly, the guy who told him that worked at IBM at the time.
I advised him that that's not the case, IBM doesn't even make desktop PCs anymore, and that Apple uses more IBM technology than the IBM-clones on the market.

As long as WE exist to keep the Mac market alive and healthy, we can sit back and continue to watch the Windows world suffer the plague. :D

I absolutely HATE it when you post stuff like this. April Fools day is NOT a Mac rumor. Let people have a little fun today, and catch others off guard. What's the fun of spoiling the fact that it's April Fool's day?

I wonder if Jobs even got a AFD pulled on him. His lower ppl prob told him.."ya, sure it'll be ready *holding in the laugh*"
 
Where would we see the announcement today if there is one? The store? The "hot news" page?

The front page. There would probably be a new link under the hot news page. Apple would want to make this event known so i would assume that it would be put on the front page
 
Told ya so!

I'd just like to state that I never believed this rumor for one minute (check my post history). :p Sounded way too fishy to me.

My guess is it was either:

  • ThinkSecret's source was just plain wrong.
  • Somebody played an early April Fool's Joke (TS or their source).
  • Apple leaked different dates to try to find where the secrets were getting out.

I'll gladly eat my words if it still happens later today (hey, I'm looking forward to Tiger as much as the next person here), but I really, really doubt it. You can stop refreshing apple.com now... :rolleyes:

My bold prediction still stands: release on July 2nd at noon, the exact midpoint of the year. ;)
 
10:40 Pacific Time

The last two release dates apple released the date or time on or about a number that corresponded to the version number. Seems like one was release on October 2nd, i.e. 10/2/200x i.e. 10.2 and seems like the another release, rather then allowing for a Midnight party to pic up orders, you could pick orders up at 10:30 or 10:20 the night before.... this year the date won't match but they might try to announce it at 10:40 Pacific time to correspond to 10.4....

Just a thought... a bit of a stretch I know... but I wouldn't put it past them...
 
Aren't big announcements usually at 12PM PST? This gives Wall Street an hour to bid the stock up, and it lets Jobs sleep in. I think we still have a decent shot, considering they've done this before. :confused:

apple.com refresh

Being a newbie this wont get much thought but :)
There are lots of mac faithful refreshing apple.com right now and it keeps going from a white background with IPods to a black background..
I'd be willing to bet the websters at apple are having a blast playing this rotating background AFD stuff.They know we are refreshing all the time plus it is apples birthday and there is no mention of this on the front page yet..
I say high noon this background will change to a countdown:)
 
It's always possible the release got Steve'd, I suppose, because of the leak.

I've gone from excited, to frustrated, to dejected. :(

But still forlornly hopeful. :)
 
Just give it up and go enjoy your weekend people. :p It's rather obvious now that no announcement will be forthcoming today. Maybe next Monday or Tuesday...

That's what I think has happened.....I think ThinkSecret were right about the release date....but Apple changed it after seeing the leak, it takes some of ThinkSecrets credibilty away. (would Apple do that? :eek: :eek: )

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was pushed back to spite ThinkSecret. There isn't anything forcing Apple to release it today. Jobs may very well have said. Oh screw this. Lets push it back to Tuesday and make TS look like a bunch of idiots.
