Posted this elsewhere but think it still makes sense:

The thing with the MB and MBP is that there is unlikely to be anything to demonstrate. Yes, they may well be pretty, but that's not really enough for a presentation - the message will get across perfectly well, if not better, with high quality website/press release images. What would happen at the demo - "Here's the new MB and MBP - see how pretty they are! They are still made the same way as before because that lasers and solid metal business is, frankly, prepostorous. Instead, most of the ports are on the power adapter so that its kind of like a docking station. Any questions?". 2 minutes tops?

While the Let's Rock event was pretty light on ground-breaking hardware, it had software, particularly the new Genius feature, which really needed SJ to show it off and convince everyone it was a big deal. It wouldn't have worked to have released iTunes 8 without a demo.

I agree 100%. It just wouldnt make sense to waste all that time and money on showing new hardware, while they can accomplish the same thing with a couple of HD photos. But I do enjoy seeing the Jobs man himself:D

So then Apple won't refresh their products till Summer of 2009? This isn't the mac mini we are talking about ;P

So I guess my long in the tooth 1st Gen MB will have to wait until next year to be a replaced by a MB with a proper GPU.:( Damn Taiwanese blogger getting me all excited over nothing.

Anyone remember that vegetable of a woman in Flordia a few years ago that was tortured by being kept alive and fed through a feeding tube but nobody would let her husband pull the tube?

In todays day and age that vegetable is the Mac Mini.

Please Steve Jobs. Pull the tube. Let it die with dignity... end the... SUFFERING! =(

Apple Doesn't Make LAPTOPS!!!

I had a "heated" argument over this once. But, by :apple: Apple's definition a MacBook is NOT a laptop. It is a notebook computer. I find this out when I complained about the amount of heat it gives off and burns my legs when using it. They told me that they are NOT in the business of Laptops!!!

Seems (and excuse me if this has been posted already and I've read through some and it seems it's been hinted) that a good bit of this community here is hell bent on blaming Apple for release dates they have never officially declared.

Couldn't agree more!

Dont get me wrong, I want new apple laptops as soon as like everyone else, but Apple cannot be blamed for these rumoured release dates.

I would expect updates this month, but the redesign would likely be unveiled at MWSF.

TEG

It would be rather unprecedented for Apple to refresh a laptop only to come out with a new model two months later. I remember when Apple refreshed the MBP 4 months after it originally shipped back but I can't recall, in recent history, it ever replacing a machine in a shorter time span. If someone has a sharper memory on this please post details.

Please update next week!! I've almost had it with my 12" iBook 600 mhz- yes, it's still running, although the screen has gone a bit funky colored on me. Come on Apple, I've had my money ready since August. I'm starting to think I should have just done the back to school special and gotten myself a new iPod while I was at it.

That's just B.S. put out by Apple in case of a lawsuit. The definition of a laptop and notebook are identical to most consumers the same as pants are to trousers.

Core i7

I have been waiting to buy a Macbook Pro until some major upgrades (you all have been asking for them for months), and keep hearing that the will be released soon. But the fact there havent been any is frustrating. :(

As much as I was hoping for an upgraded in October, the fact that Intel has not made a launch event for i7, I dont think there will be any Apple news. Why would apple have a big media event for a form factor change? Until Apple can ship units with the Core i7, I dont see why there would be a media event?

I think we have to wait until Macworld 2009
But at least it not as bad as waiting for the cubbies to win the world sieries:D

Well look, rumour has it that Steve may not be all that well at the moment.
As he's always a key player at an event, is it not feasible that in this instance no event has been planned because he may not be up to it?

I hope that he's fine by the way and that this rumour is wrong.

I'm glad I'm not in dire need of a new Macbook. The wait and non-information would kill me. Let them come when they are ready. Don't rush it.
I've waited two years for an aluminium MacBook with better graphics that will handle Mac OS X 10.6 better, so if it's a bit longer to wait, then that is fine with me. In the meantime, I'm very happy with my iMac, and I will always keep my PowerBook. I love it, and it will still be very useful to me, even after I get one of the forthcoming aluminium MacBook's.

well, ive submitted a claim to my work for my computer-purchase loan (take cash from each cheque for 2 years, interest free)... Should have cash in hand by this time next week. With any luck, the new info will be solid by then. If not, I give it til nov1 and i will buy whats available. Hopefully not cure myself on Nov2.

May not be a big upgrade, but if im buying, id like to buy the most current/newest model.

I just want a macbook with montevina chipset in it, led screen, multi touch and a slight speed bump, i would be happy with just that ....case redesign would be a big big bonus.

Easy answer:

Currently, WE. KNOW. NOTHING. They'll happen when they happen, shut up with the whining why the current models will instantaneously break when the new ones come out and that's why you need to wait for a new one.

Yes, your right, they do instantaneously break when new ones come out...because they are broke from the beginning.

Look at the faulty Nvidia cards at the heart of the current macbook pros.
Dont need that. All the screen issues since they first put the LED in a pro laptop...come on Apple, some $$$ are being spent, fix it.

So, yes, it would be nice if they get around to updating stuff sooner than later. ;)
Im on a powerbook g4 667 that is standing on its last legs. (The screen is hanging on by a thread and hooked up to an external monitor...yeah, the apple issues with weak aluminum hinges on a titanium powerbook...) :)

Intel has the chips, Apple...what is your excuse...IBM used to be it, no use in waiting now.

Peace

dAlen

Why all this hype about the new NVIDIA chip as a boost to the Mac notebook line...aren't those NVIDIA chips that are falling like flies in the MacBook Pro systems already?

Wouldn't QC make you just a little bit nervous in a brand new (physical) redesign for the entire platform?

So, putting 2 plus 2 together, aren't we really waiting until MacWorld for the bright, shiny new line of MacBooks? :(

Chipset != GPU

Crossing my fingers for a "silent release" on the 14th now.
I'd simply love to splash the cash and thereby instill some hope into the financial markets. :)

A couple of things to consider:

1: Stocks of current computers are getting low as evidenced by some retailers like Best Buy being out of some or all models

2: Apple is not going to go months without replacing computers as the stock would plummet without a significant portion revenue stream

By the way, the 'crises' has nothing to do with release dates, because if Apple had to wait until we are all out of this mess they may be waiting 18 months minimum and maybe much, much longer.

It's not exactly about the crisis, which is gonna last at least 2 years...it's about the momentum for a launch in a moment of pure insanity. One thing is to have continued downturn...another is to have huge stock market and currency tumbles every day.

Of course Apple is putting off all press releases right now. They are a media machine. Right now the world is dominated by news of doom and gloom. They have to make a splash and the best way to do that is with innovative new products at a light period in the news cycle when everyone is tired of bad news. To come out right now and say "we have this great new way to spend money" when all anyone is seeing in the news is that there is going to be a big new Great Depression, that is stupid.

I'm certain that both the reality of the financial crisis and the news cycle surrounding it is what is guiding Apple's product release changes. The worst thing Apple can do is shoot their wad right now and have no effect in the marketplace. I wouldn't be surprised if they have decided just to do a minor update instead of the huge update they may have had planned one month ago.

They'll probably wait until January now to release anything dramatic so the world can actually watch sales fly, and their stock price will increase again.

I know the "Dell" community doesn't run around going "COME ON where are new model inspirons you promised us" (yah bad example but you get the point) because HP said dell might be releasing new laptops.

Can't you see that Apple has build quite a nice little monopoly here? If Dell does not deliver me the configuration that is timely for the money I choose some other PC hardware vendor. This is not possible with Apple.
If I need to run OSX (because I have invested in it already) I am bound to the Apple release cycle - which is more than late...
