Tuesday or hello PC!(HP, ASUS, SONY)

I do think Apple will loose some market if they postpone the Macbook release date. I watched the Dell Outlet inventories in last couple of days. There was a sharp increased sale in XPS M1330 models. Think about this, new macbook has aluminum cases similar to XPS M1330. They are actually similar in all aspects except different OS. People are buying stuffs with good looking these days. I would imagine new Macbook will look better than its competitors.

Hi Guys

On my side is just see an upgrade on the 14th annouced from the apple store, with no specifics events because:

- The Nvidia thing on the 15th
- Date of the last update...too long....really too long!
- No design evolution...just the specs...Brick won't be ready, cause we would have known since ages about Apple producing bricks in the US...
- Even if they had planned to do one event, with what happened those last days to their stock shares...not the moment to make to much noise..Not sure a "normal person" will even pay attention to it

Cheers

New processor or just new form factor??

I haven't seen anyone comment, so I'll ask again--is this expected MBP update going to change the processor by a significant amount (I'd call a step to 2.8 or 3 GHz significant) or is it just going to be cosmetic and ergonomic?

What's the word?

Thx,

--Tim

I've been waiting since January - the new Montevina chipset was originally due out in May. So I figured I'd wait. Now its October and no new laptops. I'm pissed off at this point.

Though there is one thing to say - perhaps with all the turmoil in the financial markets, and with the presidential election in the US in its last month, perhaps now isn't the best time to have a media event. Either wait until the election is over, or just push out the new laptops without the hoopla. If its not the latter, we wont see an media event until November 11th, possibly the 18th...

The problem with a (late) November release date is that I don't see how they would release newer versions again in January... Only two months later... :(

Hm...

the current selection is great. Buy now and be happy.

You see, that's just the thing - they're not. The mini is so long in the tooth it's practically a relic (*ahem* ripoff) based on the specs, and in the MBP... wait for it...

The. nVidia. 8600. Fails. Badly. A. Lot. That's not new news. nVidia putting aside 200,000,000 against the 8600s failing is a crap vote of confidence in the chip.

I need a pro-level machine - I DO NOT need to sit around wondering when the stupid thing is going to fail me in the middle of a client deadline on a $10,000 contract. It would be utterly stupid of me to go out and buy a laptop that's got a high likelihood of doing exactly that. On the flip side, I need a pro-level mac laptop NOW. See the conundrum?

Not so easy to buy and be happy, is it?

I also think there won't be an event, as someone said in this topic, what do they want to show? Yes, it's a redesign, and you can say: "its pretty ain't it?" but is that worth a event?

Don't get me wrong here, i've been waiting 4-5 months now and i'm checking this damn forum every day, almost 20 times a day.:apple:

+1, but it's been 10 months

What sucks for me is I sold my MacBook at the beginning of September when the rumors said the new MacBook would be released in September. Then it got pushed back to October. And I wouldn't be surprised if Oct 14th comes and it gets pushed back to November. So I'm stuck with my iMac waiting for a new MacBook to get released.

When are the invites coming?
There are no invites!
When is the event?
When are we going to here about the event?
OMG Apple teh sux0rs cuz I waited like for ever to get my MB.
OMG when is it going to happen
OMGGGGGG!!!!!! Is it oct 14? IS OCT 21??? OH NO IS IT DURING MACWORLD?
America is an economic crisis THE WORLD IS IN AN ECONOMIC CRISIS . Apple cares about the economic crisis so we will never see the mbs!!

:confused::confused:

Pretty reliable sources from Nvidia have seen the "new" Macbook and the "new" Macbook Pro. The machines haven't changed externally, only internally.
So for the people who can't wait: 14th of October there will be an update, for the people who want an alu Macbook: it isn't going to happen for a while.
Because the look hasn't changed, the prices can drop. I also dream of an alu Macbook with great GPU, great autonomy, great portability and sturdiness for about 750$, but I'm afraid it will remain a dream.
So, the 14th of October I'm buying a white Macbook.

You act like disguising a new MB/MBP in an old case is difficult. I suspect Apple would do this, to show the new features off to NVIDIA employees that worked hard on it.

Oh, come on. I already sold my MacBook in preparation for the new ones. I can't live without it for a month. I sure hope they come the 14th or at least sometime in October.

LOL. I love this post because it's true as I have added to this. :)

I got my last macbook pro in 2004 and would really like to upgrade. It's tough cause I personally don't want to buy a current model and have a new one for the same price with higher specs drop in a month...so I'll wait patiently.

Requiring an Intel Based Mac with enough power to run

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ and keep up with my on the road editing needs.

Poor power PC's are becoming obscelete with a lot of the new apple software "Intel Mac's only".

My Powermac G5 runs like a dream with enough power to boot, but is slowly being phased out by the intel chip.

Maybe they don't want to show off thin Steve Jobs

That's why Apple keeps making everything thinner, so Steve doesn't look as thin on stage. If he was next to one of the old Powerbooks, he'd look positively FRAIL!

There most likely won't be an event until MacWorld. I hope that anyone still waiting goes and buys one after the 14th doesn't pull through (it's a rumor, just like the 30th and 16th) instead of keep waiting. I bought mine back in August when they were only "weeks away", got my free iPod Touch and if I hadn't moved then, I'd be with an old PowerBook and Nano still.

Anyway, Apple almost always has an event for major MacBook Pro/MacBook updates, changing the style on them would be (remember the TiBook to AlBook transition) one. But then again, they may not update the looks on them at all, and everyone waiting for the new style may miss out on the BTS Promo.

I strongly believe Apple is going to wait for the UK one to end first, so Nov - Jan has the best chance.

Enough!!

Tuesday or hello PC!(HP, ASUS, SONY)

I'm thinking the same. Just look at those PCs, they are updated and actually run vista fast enough and at a considerable lower price. Steve will have no reason for updating his MB and MBP as long as they're making good sales.

I have waited too much, if no update comes next week, I'll end with this game (having me waiting for a MBP update while PCs are actually updating) Steve is playing with me.

columbus day is no major holiday, just an excuse for banking/wallstreet execs and the post office to take the day off. i'm sure apple's announcement schedule won't be based off a day dedicated to some idiot who thought he hit india but "discovered" a continent already populated with advanced civilizations that was "discovered" a few centuries earlier by the vikings.

the best part of the columbus/america story is that some also-ran named amerigo vespucci managed to get the whole place named after himself rather than columbus. fail!

Anyone remember that vegetable of a woman in Flordia a few years ago that was tortured by being kept alive and fed through a feeding tube but nobody would let her husband pull the tube?

In todays day and age that vegetable is the Mac Mini.

Please Steve Jobs. Pull the tube. Let it die with dignity... end the... SUFFERING! =(

Man... are you comparing a MACHINE with a HUMAN BEING? Completely inappropriate :(
