the current selection is great. Buy now and be happy.

bought a last-generation new-old-stock 2.6 hi-res 17" loaded w/ 4GB RAM at smalldog last week for 2300. beat the living daylights out of the offerings at refurb. apparently they've still got a few left. you guys are all high on industrial solvents if you're not looking there first before the apple refurb store.

just sayin'.:apple:

Long term lurker compelled to post...

Very frustrated  by lack of movement, slowly weakening and might pick up a refurb 2.4ghz macbook from refurb store on 15th if nothing is released.

Same for me.
Or I must go for one of this nice Sony' Vaio's with simular prices.
Something to think about the next 5 days ....

That's DEFINITELY the reason, and nothing else. The products are ready but Apple will NEVER release anything in the middle of such a turmoil. Why?

1) The relevant public will NOT notice and the launches shall not have any impact in light of the insanity of financial news;

2) Consumption, especially in the crumbling US economy and beginning also in many European economies, is sharply down;

3) Currencies are floating wildly, and interbank or intercompany financing is absolutely frozen all over the world. Trading companies are practically inactive as of now, and foreign markets would pay an undesirable premium for Apple products.

So any such launches are gonna happen in November, and this is an optimistic estimate. Don't dream about 14 October, as it's NOT gonna happen unless it's just about minor things and speed bumps.

Maybe but what if the US economy is still down in six or nine months from now? Would they hold on that long? Then they would finally release models from 1 1/2 year old?

I still think there is a chance for a silent upgrade on the 14th, otherwise they might be on the 31st of October or a week after when the UK promo ends

yeah thats true, i dont think theyd base it on economy, cause who knows who long the "credit crunch" will last!

And i dunno about an event... it could happen, especially if theres is brand new features, i.e new mbp track pads etc, but i doubt an event still, its just not big enough!
I do see speed bumps coming soon, but not complete rehauls.. i see that in Jan 09, cause i can see jobs showcasing these new fangled mb and mbps, even perhaos with some mac minis and mac pros.

And maybe even a preview of snow leopard?
I mean, what else is going to be at the event if they release the new lappys now?
Its not what you want to hear, its not what i want to hear either, cause i wanna order my mbp - but its kinda truthful :(

Ditto.

I find those who forcefully say "just buy now!" (i'm not referring to all the 'just-buy-now'ers) seem annoyed with us for waiting. But then it seems like many times they are the ones who buy new models often, so if they happen to buy tech that is half a year old, it doesn't matter as much because they will replace it in a year. For me, I've been saving for this machine for several years, and won't be able to replace it for a long time, so I don't want to get a machine that is already dated when a few weeks patience would have yielded brand new tech.

But I've held off long enough that my work flow is hampered and a week is about all I can afford to wait.

I totally hear ya. Although I have the cash now, last couple years it hasn't been easy to stash away an extra couple hundred bucks every now and then into the MBP fund. That's why I'm rockin' a 2002 G4 Powermac with a barely functional Final Cut Pro so I can just barely do work at home.
And that's also why I'm looking forward to two things next week: New Macbook Pros, and the federal election in Canada. Conservative governments always seem to make me poor, wtf? If all goes well, I'll be picking up my MBP and voting down the government in one trip. That's like my dream date.

everybody saying that a case redesign isn't worth an event are either noobs or don't remember the release of the alu books. a case redesign is a HUGE deal, who's to say that the redesign doesn't have something revolutionary built into it that could take advantage of something apples built in the os long ago that we've never had privy of before because we lacked the hardware to take advantage of it (ala mac os x being universal binary for sometime before the intel macs were released).

maybe its a tablet, maybe its a notebook/tablet, possibilities are endless and the fact that most of you expect leaks is a joke. i remember the days where getting even the smallest bit of info it was a huge deal, if apple is indeed manufacturing in house i could see why there are no leaks as of yet.

apple doesn't need to give us any updates or info on their next release and all you people complaining that it's taking too long, blame sites like macrumors or 9to5 instead of apple...because these sites are the ones putting "reputations on the line" or telling you a new 'book is imminent when it actually isn't.

i've been waiting for a new macbook since july and will continue to wait happily even though my macbook pro finally quit on me last week (work computer and iphone is all i have now :[ ). why am i not mad? because i'm a grown adult that understands if i need something now i buy something now, i can afford to wait...i'll wait. all any of us know is there are updates inevitable and will be released sometime in the future.

ps. MACRUMORS OR ANY OTHER RUMOR SITE IS FULL OF EXACTLY THAT...RUMORS, NOT FACT.

I wish I was a grown adult.

I was speaking with a friend and apples sales for the christmas season (targets) have rose and without any new products coming it would be very hard for them to reach that goal. So its a good chance we will see at least SOMETHING new.

btw those are laptop based number not all apple products and this is for best buy.

You're telling me Best Buy has a seperate allocation for targets just for Apple laptops? All the retailers I've worked in, it is laptops in general, not a specific manufacture of laptop.

who wants to buy outdated electronics? my opinion is that they should cut the prices to be compatible or update because in my eyes the MBs/MBPs with this specification at this time, are overpriced! Apple or not, to offer an notebook with 2,1gig processor with 1gig ram for 1.100$(1.100€ in my case-> that is about 1.500$) is just too much. I thing Apple will screw up a lot if they do not update their computers regularly and so loose a lot of (potential) costumers. Today other companies are not that far away from Apple as they were in history and for the use of Os X there are a lot of other possibilities (hackintosh, efi-x, maybe psystar in the future...)

edit: typo

Seems (and excuse me if this has been posted already and I've read through some and it seems it's been hinted) that a good bit of this community here is hell bent on blaming Apple for release dates they have never officially declared.

One post I noticed was "Apple you can't do this to me" yet Apple hasn't said anything. People are taking these rumors and then holding Apple to them and when nothing comes around it's Apple's fault? How so?...

You're right but, personally, I'm mad at Apple if they don't release new MB/MBP in October. Not because Apple said so (you're right, they never committed themselves) but because it's about frigging time! ;)

exactly that is my point!

No, its not about the financial crisis per se, but it is about the news cycle of the financial crisis. We will all be over hearing about it everyday and will come to terms with the new reality in the next several months. That is the time for Apple to start releasing exciting new products.

They don't want hot new product announcements lost in this news cycle.

Very surprised we haven't heard anything.. oh well I got a MacBook about two weeks ago, used locally, so I'm okay, glad I didn't wait b/c I don't think I could have haha got it for a good price so I'm straight.

PEOPLE...PEOPLE!! LISTEN UP...

Apple won't have a Media Event.. They aren't releasing something.. esp. since they just had a Event barely a month ago. it Makes sense! They'll (HOPEFULLY) release the MBP/MB silently.. like they did with the iMacs and others.. and right now the sales are pretty down. because everyone is waiting for "The NEW MBP" so they have to do it...!

:apple:

One other thing...

Apple's Q4 conference call is set for Oct 22. I am sure Apple is going to want to have new product out by then so they have something to crow about and to justify Q4 sales projections. Apple's customers are not the only ones that need to see new product. AAPL and Apple is depending on it.
