I have the gold aluminum original apple watch. I originally had the space grey series 0 apple watch, sold it and got the gold aluminum when they first came out.

The only thing I dislike is due to the color it limits the band options for my taste.

Example. When I had the space grey series 0, one of my bands was a space grey metal link band. A gold metal link is a bit much for me.

Moral for me is space grey gives more options. I'll be going with that this round.

I suspect the stainless gold S4 model was made with the Asian market in mind. In China and India, for example, gold is a symbolic color and very much a part of the culture.

That said, in Western cultures, I do not believe gold is tacky, especially if it is not over-done. We have all seen certain celebrities, such as musicians and singers, wearing way too much gold. That looks tacky. But if you wear, for example, only a gold (Apple) watch and a gold wedding ring, that is tasteful.

So torn on this very subject with the XS Max and the SS Watch in gold.

I always get SG in everything but the gold looks absolutely fantastic in both this year.

I wear suits every day (lots of grays, navy, browns) and think the gold will be an amazing companion color style wise. Not to mention throwing a leather band on there eventually but that also brings up the other questions...how many bands are truly nice looking with the gold?

Still wearing an original 'gold' aluminium version, which apart from the microphone not working has held up really well. Was worried about the gold being a bit flashy, but the predominant colour on all of the Apple watches is the black screen. I do think the new gold milanese loop is a bit too much though.

As an original Apple watch user I have decided this is the year to upgrade and face the same issue. The same stainless I have worn for over 3 years or a gold which shows a difference but makes my bands less tasteful! I own the SS Link, SS milanese, Nylon gold, blue modern buckle and stone sports band. Makes it difficult considering if I will make them all redundant or if I choose the gold will anything other than the milenese work? Hard decision, I like to rotate my colour choice overall but watches are more personal!

Wasn't there an AW configurator where you could try the different band colors on the watches? Maybe they havent released the new versions yet but I am having a hard time figuring out what would go with the gold SS besides the obvious milanese it comes with.

For me, yes gold watches and jewellery, sunglasses or anything flashy would look tacky. Blonde, Pale skin.

As a man who is considering preordering the SS gold color 44mm Series 4 I started wondering - is a gold-colored watch too “smartass”/tacky for a man to wear on a daily basis?

What are your thoughts? Do you dislike the gold-variant and why? Why do you prefer the other options?

Do you wear gold (yellow gold) jewelry? Then why not get the gold watch? If I were a yellow gold kind of gurl... i'd get the gold watch but all my jewelry is platinum or white gold.

Personally it's not for me, but I think Apple has done a decent job at making it not look like such a typical yellow gold. It is different. It's like slightly coppery, such that if it were darker it would be almost like a gunmetal. Difficult to describe.

This is the only reason I'm pondering it. I don't like YELLOW gold. I do like rose gold, though. I think I'd like this coppery gold thing they have going. I liked the champagne sort of gold of the first aluminum gold iPhones, too.

I just don't know... decisions, decisions.

Yeah. i'm in the same boat. I prefer yellow gold and don't like the copperyness of it.. makes my skin look too red I think. That said, it's not a bad color, just not for me. Also interesting is that it looks different depending on the lighting and the band it's paired with imo.

Concerned about band variety that would go well with the gold but I am loving the possibility of the gold Max and the gold watch.

I think it would depend on the colors you already wear. Do you prefer black suits or brown? The gold will contrast more against black and be a little flashier but I think would look really nice against brown or even darker gray suits. I've seen the gold AW paired with the Navy sports band and it looked really sharp. Same with the Saddle Brown. If the lugs being mismatched bothers you then Amazon has lug sets for cheap.

It’s not the gold that’s tacky, it’s this hideous screen. IMO, this complication is akin to the crap stuff you find in Android watches. Where customizing allows users to add everything including he kitchen sink.

Heaven forbid we let people see what they want. ;)

I really don't mind because I don't have to see whatever crazy mess people come up with. I like mine subdued. I have seen some atrocious photo watch faces, though. Good grief. :D

Oh don't get me wrong, I would love customization. To each his own mess I say. :D

I'm frankly just surprised that Apple used this example to show off complications. I hold them to a higher design standard and this really took me aback.

Ahhh! Yes... I see... I'm not keen on it, either. I think maybe they wanted a colorful image or to show off all you COULD put on the face?

I ordered the GSS 44mm. I also ordered the black sport loop, and have my S0 black sport band. I think gold watches look good with black bands, the tacky look can sometimes come when the band is also gold (but not always).

I will have to see how the gold milanese loop looks in person, on my arm before I would even think of trying to pull it off.
