Are gold Apple Watches tacky?

Heaven forbid we let people see what they want.

I really don't mind because I don't have to see whatever crazy mess people come up with. I like mine subdued. I have seen some atrocious photo watch faces, though. Good grief.

Well apple don’t let you see what you want - they control what you see. If you could customise faces more I’d be much happier. Eg let me have that infographic complication but remove the tick marks, have simple timer icon like the simple face - why does it need a curved line? And have the temperature be mono not rainbow.

The watch is tacky on it's own. It's basically a cheap kid's gadget, no more aesthetically impressive than a toy out of a McDonald's Happy Meal. Doesn't matter what strap you slap onto it, it's going to look tacky regardless. If you want to look respectable, I'd suggest getting an automatic watch (Seiko, Junkers, Omega, Oris, etc.) or if you're really concerned with something as a fashion statement, check out www.watches.com.

I tried a gold ss 44mm for a day and took it back and swapped it out for a sb aluminum. I thought I would like the gold for a change but I really did not like the color much. I actually think I would have liked it better if it was not as bronze-ish and I really like the sb in aluminum. I might have gone for the silver stainless steel if it had been right there, but I like the aluminum look more than the shiny black of the stainless steel black version.

Over a year with the Hermes Stainless Steel S3, there isn't another color I would like save for the white ceramic which is now poof..

It’s not the gold that’s tacky, it’s this hideous screen. IMO, this complication is akin to the crap stuff you find in Android watches. Where customizing allows users to add everything including he kitchen sink.

Gold has been pretty out of style for many years at this point, but I think with rose gold getting so hot the last couple, gold is coming back.

I'm NOT a gold fan. I personally wouldn't get the gold watch, but I have to admit the gold iPhone looks sexy.

It’s a very subjective thing but I think OP asks because he wants to find a balance point between the color he likes the most and the color that’s disliked by the least number of people. So I will contribute my 2 cents worth of data point: yes, I find gold tacky and ugly on most.

That said, if you are lucky enough to have the skin tone to pull it off, by all means go for it.

Gold is classic and has never gone out of style. I have a gold layer in my wedding band and also a two tone stainless mechanical watch so I welcome the gold in my Max and AW4. I hope there are more band options with gold pins and lugs. The gold watch will go very nicely with my black stainless bands as well.

Ah okay. All those nearly identical round watch designs shows much more personality than an Apple Watch, totally logical. Your point of view basically is: “The Apple Watch should look like every other watch to become personal and untacky or else it’s a kids toy”, that’s your clever point of view. Your completely subjective Apple-bashing in ALL your forum posts really defines you - we get it, you hate everything Apple produces. No idea why you dedicate your time on this forum if you hate Apple so much though - a personal grudge maybe? Seems like a boring hobby honestly.

It is a beautiful color that goes with so many different bands and looks amazing.

If you think it's condescending, that's more of a you problem. Nobody is going to stop you from wearing an apple watch or even a gold apple watch. You asked for an opinion, you got plenty. Why you so fixated on mine?

I thought it would be, that's why I originally preordered the Space Gray one. Was happy with it until I went to an Apple Store a few days ago. The Gold stainless steel is gorgeous. I thought it was a yellowish gold but it's more copper, fantastic color when you actually see it in person.

Been stalking istocknow the past few days or so and picked up a 44m Gold SS. The stainless steel is worth the extra money IMO.
