I wear 18k gold with white sport band , sometime with space black link bracelet .
easy to wear everyday.

I ordered the GSS 44mm. I also ordered the black sport loop, and have my S0 black sport band. I think gold watches look good with black bands, the tacky look can sometimes come when the band is also gold (but not always).

I will have to see how the gold milanese loop looks in person, on my arm before I would even think of trying to pull it off.

I ordered the same watch, with the stone sport band. I think that band will look nice, as well as my sport loop bands (I have a black and one of the Nike sport loops in a darker blue) and my leather loop bands (I have brown, black, and the off-white one whose name I cannot recall now). Should look good with most sport bands....

That leaves the Milanese loop as a huge question mark. I would not wear the silver ML with with it (I have that band) because I don't like it when the connectors are a different metal from the casing. I do not know if I'd like that gold Milanese... it might be a bit too much.

I would really like a two-tone gold and silver metal band of some sort. But, I doubt anyone but Apple could make one I didn't find tacky.

I like the look of the Hunter Green leather loop, but I want to see it in person first, I think.

I'm thinking if I dont like the gold milanese loop, I'll check out the black. I love the look of gold watch, with back, and don't mind the lugs being black.

The other option which would be big $$ would be to buy a black AND gold milanese loop and swap the lugs.

I ordered an Aluminum 44MM Gold today. I think it will look good. I've had space gray for years.
I ordered the same one, with the sports band. I had a rose gold series 0 which I always wore with a white sports band. I think the space gray one has too much black with the black of the screen extending into the black(space gray) on the sides of the watch. This adds some color to it.

I wish they made white watches or at least some bright colors like orange and pink.

I think the gold looks AMAZING! and that's the reason I'm getting the gray.o_O I'm sometimes in sketchy areas and the gray looks cheap or at least nothing like the SS or Gold, which look way more expensive. Tacky? maybe out on the farm or fishing it would look garish, but for dress or club the gold looks freaking great! If I had the money I would get 2 watches, one for dress and one for sports/work.

One of the big selling points to me is being able to leave my phone at home when excising/sports fishing or work, so my watch is less fashion and more utilitarian.

I don’t think there is enough gold showing to make a big statement.. I think the band itself will set the personality of it. I’m just hoping the SS gold is like a neutral regular gold jewelry type color, so all bands will go with it.
I don’t like silver, my daughter won’t wear gold.. to each his own, as has been said

The color greatly depends on your typical attire as well as skin tone, some people just wear a different color better, it's kind of odd and fascinating.

Maybe go to a jewelry store or Apple store if near by and try a few different color metal watches on, wear it for more than 15 seconds, ask opinions from those around of how it looks on you.

A lot of it is how important is the look to you. If you have the thought of tackiness then it will feel tacky, go get the stainless steel.

I prefer the silver aluminum and stainless steel myself, but that gold stainless is hot!

I just like the versatility of silver, but I have a soft spot for the gold. My dad wore a gold Pulsar LED watch in the 70’s and 80’s. He always wore it with a dark brown leather band, and it looked great. I still have his watch. It doesn't work anymore, but it’s certainly an attractive conversation piece that resembles a proto-Apple Watch.

I think gold watches for men used to be more popular, then became less popular in the 90’s and 00’s. Silver and platinum jewelry was also more popular during those decades, and least from what I saw. Now it seems like gold and gold-colored watches and jewelry are coming back. I say follow your heart on this one. Go for the gold stainless and pair it with bands that fit your style. I look forward to seeing photos of the gold stainless with various bands and outfits. Maybe I will change things up and get one for my next Apple Watch.

Yes skin tone is a big part of it and one reason why my other half doesn't suit black at all but looks ace in navy.

I look wonderful in both though :D

The black SS Apple Watch is one of the hardest to pull off for a lot of people for the reason - pasty white arms. It looks great on people with tanned arms, or even tattoo'd arms, but most people here in the UK at least, just can't really pull off that blacked out look well. No skin tone. Shame because it's a really cool look if you can nail it.

Technically they did make a ‘white’ watch in ceramic with the Series 2 and Series 3. But orange and pink are likely not Future options for a case in color.

This is literally never going to happen lol

I don’t care who likes my watch. I mean, it’s nice if other people like things I like, but not necessary.

Asking if a gold-colored AW is tacky is interesting since the gold aluminum ones have existed for a few years now and I see plenty of people wearing them.

Granted, this one might be super shiny, but the hands-on photos generally look like the color is more subdued.

I am looking to upgrade my current series 3 42mm Hermes edition with the 44 mm stainless steel gold. I think the gold with my Ebene barenia deployment buckle will look gorgeous because it such a rich deep colored brown on that band it’ll look really nice with the gold stainless steel 44 mm

What do you guys think of that combination?

I think the lugs will look weird. I do agree that the gold/Ebene color combo would look nice.

I just wanted to thank you guys for all the feedback - went with the Gold SS 44 mm with sports band. The milanese loop band is on its way and just got the forest green leather loop band today - couldn’t be happier (and it definitely doesn’t not look tacky)!

Here are some pics with the forest green leather loop :)

The gold stainless steel is stunning and gorgeous. It is also the newest flagship color for AW especially for series 4 stainless steel.

i ordered the hibiscus (hot pink) sport loop for my GSS 44 mm. Sounds weird but i saw the apple commercial, u know the one with the doppelganger, and he, too, was wearing gold (aluminum) with hibiscus. the band arrives today, and i have no qualms wearing pink as a dood.

As a man who is considering preordering the SS gold color 44mm Series 4 I started wondering - is a gold-colored watch too “smartass”/tacky for a man to wear on a daily basis?

What are your thoughts? Do you dislike the gold-variant and why? Why do you prefer the other options?

The watch is tacky on it's own. It's basically a cheap kid's gadget, no more aesthetically impressive than a toy out of a McDonald's Happy Meal. Doesn't matter what strap you slap onto it, it's going to look tacky regardless. If you want to look respectable, I'd suggest getting an automatic watch (Seiko, Junkers, Omega, Oris, etc.) or if you're really concerned with something as a fashion statement, check out www.watches.com.
