Are iPhone X cases compatible with the iPhone XS and vice versa? [MERGED]

I would also like to know about this as I just ordered an X case for the XS I ordered. Went back and re-read through keynote topics, and seems like there are additional microphones on the XS vs. the X? Possibly covered by the case depending on mic location?

The more I think about this, the more I'm not certain X cases will work on XS, since the XS has additional microphones for stereo recording. I've not seen any mention of where these additional microphones are though.

The X has three more holes bottom left than the XS (they removed the 3 closest to the left side on the XS). An X case will be fine. Same amount of holes on the right, both phones.

I’d be disappointed if my Apple Leather Case from the X would not fit the XS as they don’t (yet) have the same colours.

I believe the camera bump is slightly bigger... if your case has a big cut out it should work. But Apple cases are flush to the bump so none of the old Apple cases work. But this is just what I read.

Phone dimensions are the same, but there are slight differences... I'm thinking about the microphone holes on the iPhone's bottom. They're no longer symmetrical. This might have an impact on the case...

yes thats definitely one change.. you can see it if you look at those otterbox cases on the apple store page (only ones I found so far that have taken account of the change)... the left speaker is quite a bit shorter now.. and I really don't know if it will bother me to have a symmetrical cutouts for unsymmetrical speakers...

I just don't know if there are any other changes besides the bottom speaker...

Not having the X last year I needed a case for the Xs. I always use the Spigen Crystal Clear or something similar to it. When I looked at their website there was a difference between the X and Xs. When I purchased I had to go on pre-order but they may be in stock now since mine is estimated to arrive Thursday.

I guess I’ll have to send back the one I ordered ( Spigen just told me it won’t fit... and after seeing that picture I have little hope that it would regardless...)

But I am pretty puzzled why some X cases work and some don’t... I just compared some cutouts and they all look the same to me...

I am about to pick up a new Xs case for my X until I upgrade in November (when I'm eligible for an upgrade). I'll confirm my own suspicions above when I do.

My X plus leather case from Apple came in today and I put my 6S+ Phone in it and it fit perfectly except the camera holes. So your X should fit snuggly.

So, in MKBHD’s review video, he shows that if you put an XS case on the X there’s a slight gap around the camera bump where it’s not flush. The camera module is slightly bigger on the XS. (See attached pic)

What that means for X cases on an XS I’m not sure? I guess it might fit but don’t want to force it? I’m in the same boat as you and was hoping not to buy a new case.

As others have stated, the camera module of the XS is slightly bigger than the X. So the cutout for the X cases may be small for the XS. I bought two X cases for my XS so I'll have to give them away since one was bought on eBay and the other was basically free.
