Hearing how scared everyone is to carry something that they own is very sad... if I had this logic I would have never bought a house, cars, anything else... this is why I carry a pistol every day of my life, I'll be damned if I buy something and be to scared to use it. I'm not about to be bullied as a grown man, I would die for ten cents in my pocket let alone anything else I own.

In the event you are questioning that this would be illegal to use a gun over an iPad, think about this... someone comes up and tells me to give them my **** I respond with no and lift the right side of my shirt to show I'm the wrong M***** *********, one of two things will happen; either they will take off or they will assault me, at which point game on baby.

the only thing I keep out of sight is my Glock 19 until i need to show it.

Or you can be in New York City, where it takes insane amount of paperwork and interviews just to own a gun. And you can forget about carry permit. Those are virtually impossible without a job requirement to carry a weapon. Or if you are business owner who must carry a lot of cash.

On the side note, Glock 19 is one fine weapon. My father owns one.

I really wish I lived where you guys do, I frequently use the BART in the SF area however I've never been fortunate enough to run up on these kinds of people... I think I might get a shirt that reads "please rob me I'm a P****"

I've a license to carry gun, therefore, I am not afraid at all using my iPad on the subway or a bus.
BRING IT...make my day!

I'll say this in the most vague way possible... If I'm carrying a sandwich that you cant see, and I will only use it if I am about to starve to death... will you ever know I had food the whole time? probably not, and believe me if I used it when I was about to starve to death I have accepted all other consequences. Because I will eat that sandwich before I die; whats the alternative?

And in a place where sandwiches are illegal, if your bag rips and sandwich happens to fall out of it, or if someone accidentally takes a peek in your bag and sees a sandwich, say hello to minimum 3 years in pound-me-in-the-ass penitentiary.

Obviously you have never tried to conceal a sandwich, how many times has someone asked to peek in your bag in your lifetime? For me it's 0 there is places that can smell sandwiches though (very rare) in that case I'll leave my sandwich in the car or avoid the place all together.

Someone can't easily steal your house, clothes, or other things. Sure, they can mug you per se, but it takes effort and is risky. With an iPad or iPhone on the traiin someone can snatch it and exit out the door into the crowd in about 5 seconds with no words exchanged.

Just asking.

It attracts a lot of attention and for some reason I am little uncomfortable using it on NYC subways.

I'm a guy who can hold my own, so...I'm never worried, but i can defiantly appreciate the fear some women might have. Especially in NYC where guys are eye F * kc'n the sh ! t out of women anyway. Hey guys stop giving us a bad name and keep 2 yourself!

True story, friend was in Massachusetts with loaded pistol in trunk of his car, was up there on business, dropped someone off at airport, had a permit but it was not good in Massachusetts, pulled over for speeding, volunteered info that pistol was in trunk, and finally made it back home after the mandatory minimum prison sentence of two years. Drug dealers poked fun at the young Christian man with the fact they were serving less time than him.

To be fair, I wouldn't get my iPad out on the NYC subway or around certain areas of London. But around my city, there's no-one that would be stupid enough to even try it on with me.

Completely off topic with the whole sandwich conversation though... Tell your dad to check out cross breed holsters they make great holsters for the 19. Crazy the lady was actualy carrying in that video. Nuf said.

He's also in NYC, so no need for holster. Gun is kept in a coded safe, then in a lockbox and has a trigger lock too... Can't carry in this place.

NYC Subways are safer than most people think. I had no problem watching a video in Crown Heights subway stop, or at 2am on a D line. I try not to take out of the bag while waiting for a train, however.

Maybe it's from my job experience but I just can't fathom this happening, sorry I just don't buy it. Your telling me if someone snatches your child you just sit there and say da!n... 5 seconds is a lot of a lot of time, count to 5 and think about what could happen in that amount of time. If they can get through the door so will I, if they run... So will I. Like I said I welcome the opportunity to prove this. I will be boarding a BART at 600 tonight in the downtown SF area I will be the guy with a iPad 2 with a grey smart cover... If there are any criminals reading this please try to steal my *****.

He should carry a benchmade infidel then.

Wow with all those safeties what does he even have it for... God forbid he has to use it for it's intended purposes. But seeing how he is a law abiding citizen; are Glocks on the DOJ approved list in NY? Serious question, because I know they are not in CA unless you are an LEO or ???.

I am over 183cm and have a shaved head, people generally assume I am the one who is going to the mugging.

Like you i'm 6ft.3.inchs tall and shaved head and look i'm the one going to be mugging them and i ride the La light rail system around the town sometimes and i carrying my ipad in a sling bag and there is certain stops that goes through some of the socalled getto area stops where the socalled hood rats kids run around like wild indians and they are up in some of the people spaces trying to take things away from the people ..

So i put it away and sit and watch those kids when i'm the train..

I do use my IPAD2 on NYC subway. I was one of the first who used IPOD Touch, then IPHONE, now my brand new white IPAD2. So far it is naked, because I am looking for a good cover. Honestly, yes I am afraid a little, plus I am a woman and def. would not run if somebody grabs it out of my hands. I try to be aware of my surroundings. Whenever train stop I hold it a little tighter ;) Hopefully soon I'll get a good book-type cover and it's not going to be very flashy anymore.

I plan to use my ipad2 on the NYC subway when it gets here. I find that an ipad is not an uncommon sight these days during regular commuting hours when I'm normally using the subway so I'm not overly concerned.

Glocks are approved only with a modified magazine. Legally, you can have a max of 10 rounds capacity on any handgun in NYC. I have to check with current laws, but I think NYC does not ban specific handgun models.

Can't the "Find my Phone App" produce a remote lock on the iPad? Same thing for the iPhone. I know that iPods were snatched, but the phones and Pads have password locks. Now I know you can break a four figure password pretty easily if you are diligent about it. But people who do snatch and run muggings are generally not very bright (you can't do this for very long in NYC, see post about guy carrying Glock as to why), so I can't see there being too many out there that want to do this and have a plan to break the password. Not to mention how do they sign up with the cell carrier once you report that phone as stolen? It has a unique ID number.

I use my iPad on the NYC subway. I feel secure, but then I am much bigger than the average guy, which you might have guessed from my tag name.

I dont think they care about it. They just steal it and someone in you local chinatown figures out the rest.

I dont think ATT blacklists cells based on IMEI. verizon does i think. ipads and itouches cant really be blacklisted unless cdma variety.

Yeah it helps to be a bigger dude in circumstances like this.

but there is no way in hell i am going to get into a fight or risk my life for an ipad. some people have very little value for human life and can go to extremes for a small payout. in the end its just not worth the risk.

I wouldn't be afraid of using the iPad on the bus because the bus is a relatively difficult transport to get on and off easily compared to a subway which has many doors and is typically bigger and seats are arranged in a way that makes easy escape. On a commuter bus and commuter train, yes I would use the iPad. However, if I'm only going to be on the subway for some minutes, there's no reason to use the iPad. The trip is too short.

I really dont see why people are so scared of using an Ipad in public

I grew up in a very poor urban neighborhood where drugs and guns were almost everywhere and was fortunate to move out of that area for school and actually do something positive with my life.

Despite my rough upbringing though never once was I ever "robbed" or taken advantage of. In my experiences as long as you mind your own business and never ask for trouble then nothing will happen to you.

Usually people who are very nervous and frightened look like targets to thieves and that is why they may be approached.

I am actually surprised people keep bringing up the NYC subway like it is a warzone or something.

I use to ride the NYC subway all the time when I was younger and never once felt threatened or ever thought about using a gun for protection.

Note though that this is all in my experiences, im not saying that nothing bad ever happens on public transportation but at the same time I feel people may be overreacting a little bit

If I paid good money for an Ipad then I would use it wherever I pleased and would care less about what people think

I only pull it out in class. I don't like the dirty looks I get pulling it out on the school shuttle. Even though I still get dirty looks in class and the occasional iRich comments.

lol..I wouldn't have ever thought of it in that fashion. Hmm, adds a new perspective.

The odd thing is, I never felt uncomfortable using my laptops in public transportation, and all my laptops cost more than my iPads, except the EEE PC 701. Yet I feel uneasy using my iPad in public which is a lot cheaper than my laptops.

I agree with this post as well. I'm all for protecting yourself and your possessions by any means necessary, but at the same time it's rare that you really need to. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it is what I say.
