Generally, I try something for myself to see if it works for me, instead of relying on "all the talk" to dictate for me what I should and shouldn't be using.

Maybe you should do the same. Try it and see if it works for you. If not, you can turn it back off.
I realize you think you're being "wise" but if people in this forum say that iMessages aren't always received and I could avoid that possibility entirely by simply flicking iMessage off, then I am just being rational.

Only problem I have had is a couple of messages not sending but it's not a constant problem it just happens once in a while so then I just send it as a text message. Not that much of an issue.

Works perfect everytime. I have had a few messages where it said "sent via sms" but they have been very few. It just works.

People in this forum are a handful of the millions of ios users. Don't base your decisions on what this forum says. People come to forums to complain and fix problems, not praise.

I'm not being "wise." I simply use common sense. To know for sure if something is going to work for me, I try it. Experimention is how one learns, and makes informed decisions. Not by seeing what a bunch of people on an online forum tell you what you should or shouldn't do.

Use it or don't. Debating what the wiser course of action is, is just a waste of bandwidth.

All the talk of iMessage bugs have made me turn it off since the day I saw people talking about messages that don't send, etc. I'm waiting for this feature to be patched up.

How about you?

Nope I love iMessage. Haven't had any bugs with it

I only have an iPad. I rarely use it. I might get an iPod touch or iPhone someday. If Apple ever decides to let people use iMessages to send SMS's over Wi-Fi that would be great. If the carriers want people to use less of their network, I think they'd want Apple to do this too. And if they do, I want them to run a short code service so - assuming I don't have a cellphone - I can pull out my iPad or an iPod touch and text "PIZZA" to NNNNN and get coupons and offers from my favorite pizza restaurant.

It isn't Apple who isn't letting users send SMS over iMessage. Carriers don't want to lose that monthly text add on fee.

Ive noticed a few bugs here or there but there's nothing thats show stopping. I use it with my BF and our friends, we even got group chats going and it's not slowing down anytime soon.

I use it all the time saves me at least $10 per month by avoiding unlimited text plans.

I haven't had any issues with it. There's been a couple of times where iMessage didn't work and the message went as SMS like it always used to. It matters not to me if my message goes out as iMessage or SMS/MMS. All I care is that my message gets delivered.

I use it all the time. It saves me from needing to get a messaging plan for my mom, because all the people she texts are on iOS 5. Occasionally I have a message go through as SMS instead of an iMessage, but it's few and far between.

Used it since day 1 and I've never had any issues.

On an AT&T iPhone 4S now, but started using iMessage on an AT&T iPhone 4.

As a heavy texter, I've definitely noticed a few bugs. It's nothing that would make me turn it off all together though. It's pretty reliable.

The only reason I don't use iMessage is because I out of all the people I regularly text, only one has an iPhone and he already uses Google Voice for texting.
