Are you avoiding iMessage entirely until Apple makes it nearly bugfree?

I dont really see the problem here.

If available, Text sends as iMessage.
AND IF for WHATEVER reason it is unavailable to send at iMessage, It sends as a text.

Whats the problem??

iMessages was a waste of Apple's resources, for many reasons. I turned it off.

Please elaborate.

hmmm.. when I got my phone, it was off until I turned it on... I'm in Canada..

Interesting. Maybe it's different in different countries.

I sell iPhones at work and they definitely have iMessages turned on by default.
