The new Firetv has H.265 support and also HDMI 2.0 and HDCP2.2. It also has a MicroSD slot and you can add up to 128GB MicroSD cards......oh I see NVIDIA PR has been busy, its just a pity their ecosystem sucks and the device will be dead in the water in a few months.

I can do skewed polls too. Here you go...

Question: Are you buying an Apple TV4? (Choose only ONE answer that accurately reflects your position):
  1. Yes - I can honestly say it's the best method to watch Shakespearean drama subtitled in Latvian. And my Mom is Italian. And I have a pet labrador. (0.001%)
  2. No. Apple sucks. Roku it is the best. (20%)
  3. No. Apple sucks. Fire TV/stick is the best. (20%)
  4. No. Apple sucks. smart TV is the best. (20%)
  5. No. Apple sucks. Xbox is the best. (20%)
  6. No. Apple sucks. Play station is the best. (20%)
  7. It's Wednesday! (0.00%)
So there we have it. Apple may as well turn off the lights and go home!

:)

Where do you get that the new Firetv has HDMI 2.0? Amazon doesn't publish what version it supports in the spec. Most of the specs however suggest it's HDMI 1.4.

I'm in the buying camp. Very eager to replace my 2nd Generation and leave behind the random rebooting which has become all too common. I wish there was pre ordering in place.
I too have to always reboot my 3rd gen ATV. It is really annoying. So I am leaning towards getting the new one when it comes out, and hope it fixes that issue. The AppStore will be great, though I probably won't add too much more to my current use since I AirPlay what isn't already an app. But hopefully being able to go straight to the ATV will help with lag and streaming issues.
I am still torn on the storage size I should go with. I won't download a lot of games, but who know what is coming down the pike. And I have 2 young children who will start to interact more with technology soon. They already love the PBS Kids app, so more might be attractive to them.

are you mad because you own Fire TV?

Here is a quote from Anandtech, "... it seems 4Kp60 decoding is not supported and thus makes new Fire TV not quite as future proof as one would have hoped..."

Fire TV OS is nothing but a cooked android TV with Amazon skin. Nvidia ecosystem is a true Android TV. you can install apps on the Shield directly from Google Play Store officially. Amazon won't allow this. Amazon even rejected Kodi on its own store. Developers would support Google and its Android TV more than Amazon and Fire TV. Why? because Google also owns android mobile ecosystem. Amazon is dumping its fire phone ecosystem.

if I have to bet on which ecosystem would remain in years ahead, Apple TV and Android TV would be my bet. Amazon? not so much.

yes but which box will have the deepest market penetration, is budgeted at the right price and that joe blogs in the street will take a punt on therefore increasing the userbase which leads to more app support etc. Ok the Nvidia has a better hardware spec, the likelyhood is that having netflix and amazon prime at 4K/30Hz and the ability to run Kodi will cover 95% of peoples needs.

Android box or not I know where I would put my money and its not on the Nvidia. Also, don't assume that just because developers produce apps for the mobile ecosystem that will automatically go over to android tv, there is much more effort required for them to do that.

Personally, I am buying the new fire TV and new apple tv when both are available. The fireTV can now replace my HTPC as it supports HD audio formats such as Dolby Atmos that my AV Receiver can handle(the only edge my HTPC had) and of course has the new video codecs so that can be a main living room device. Also as I have a 4K tv the resolution bump is nice.

The apple tv I will buy more for the appstore/casual viewing/gaming/integration which existing apple devices and this will likely be on my 1080p TV in the bedroom.

I would rather buy these two than that dodgy wannabe streamer/game console that nvidia have produced.

Also, since when did higher spec's mean a product would be more successful? remember Betamax?........Its all about sales, the rest is just conversation, and that is exactly why Apples new TV box will succeed even though it has lower specs than both the firetv and nvidia.

and considering the mac rumours front page story that Amazon are no longer willing to sell competing streamer boxes which don't (read won't) have their prime app, it looks like the new appletv won't have it anytime soon...

I'm positive I'm going to buy it.
As a developer I'm interested in trying the Apple TV and find out its capabilities, I don't have plans to release an app now but I may start working on something in 2016 so I better star trying it.
My old Apple TV is still great and I'll give it to my parents so they'll be able to enjoy AirPlay finally.

if Amazon run Android TV, then they would have a better chance. soon they will have to compete with flood of boxes from different OEM that run Android TV. So Amazon has to complete not only with Android TV app/ecosystem, but they also has to compete with hardware from different vendors, of which Nvidia is one of them.

if they sell the new remote alone ....and its compatible with the mac mini ...it will be handy to have ....to maneuver using the touch pad on my mac mini turned media server

I will get the new Apple TV. I am hoping for Plex to work on it. Plex says they are adding it, but Apple could say no. I use the current generation Apple TV. Here is what I am hoping for:
  • The ability to use the "Hey Siri what did she say?" feature on Hulu, Netflix and Plex not just Apple iTunes shows and movies.
  • Since it has Storage space I am hoping to be able to hold my iMovie Theater clips on the storage and not play from the cloud each time.
  • Oh and I almost forgot and came back to edit. It would be soooo cool if they announce later one more thing and add an external FaceTime camera and add it to the USB-C port on the back. Being able to do FaceTime from the living room TV would be epic. I do it with my PlayStation 4 but only from living room to living room. I want to be able to do FaceTime from living room to any iOS device or Mac.

I use my TV with an AppleTV, home theater, cable box, and DVD player. So I use a universal remote to control all five devices. If I had to use the new apple remote, I would still need another remote to switch inputs to my Home Theater box. Not interested in another remote. When Apple remote can also serve as a universal, then yes.

It's certainly not perfect but I am buying one the moment it's released. For a change in tech purchases my wife is pushing for this one. No argument from me!

I think people underestimate the power of creating customized content on the big screen. In big events TV producers has to deal with that everyone who gets the feed sees the same thing but what apple demod with the picture in picture developers who are creative can do all sorts of neat things. Apps that let users see what meta data and stats they want to when watching sports. In semi transparent overlays. Users can becomee their own producers having control of multiple feeds from the Olympics and pick the angle they want to when they want to. In the beginning it will just be regular tv/video content in apps as we know of but comeback in two years...
