Battery health 95% after 10 months. Charge using a 20w charger every other day.
waiting for the iPhone 14 releases.
Been happy with my 12 pro battery life.
much better than my Samsung Galaxy S9 plus, trounces my wife’s S20 (Exynos). I always seem to have 30-45% battery after a full day and she has 15% or less.
on par with her daughters Note 20 ultra.

This "process" seems to be going on, just this week mine dropped again 1% down to 97%. So just about in one month it has dropped from 100 > 97%. It is odd that it stayed over 1 year at 100% but then started to drop almost 1% per week!! Luckily so far nothing dramatic changes in battery run time but I have switched to dark mode couple weeks ago, so that might even up the real difference...
Quite the same as mine. Stayed at 100% the first year. After that it dropped like a brick from the sky.

My last post in this thread was a month ago. It was on 96% and now it is on 94%. So i lost another 2% in one month.

Since it began to drop at the beginning of december it went from 100% to 94% in two and a half months.

Have you noticed change in battery runtime?
Mine so far seems about the same as before, but I've switched using dark mode when it dropped to 98% so that will compensate some of the difference.

From keeping track of battery by iMazing I have noticed that battery does not get voltage as high as it used to be before drops started, now it tops to 4428mV, while it use to go all the way to max 4450mV before drops. That value can be checked only when it right at the moment became 99.9 to 100% in iMazing or CoconutBattery. What I don't know is if this is due to battery getting suddenly weaker, damaged or if some internal battery management function in IOS kicked in. BTW, I have disabled that battery charging function that tracks you battery charging habit because I never leave mine in charger for longer than what it need to be.

Battery runtime seems to be still fine. Though it is comparing oranges to apples as i am now on iOS 15.3. The previous versions were worse on battery runtime. I can still charge from about 30% to 100% and use it for 2 days before it drops back to 30%.

It depends on my usage though. I am mostly working from home and all my work related stuff are done on a iPhone 8 so my 12 Pro is barely used during my working hours.

Pretty much same here, I get 2 days easily with 40-55% battery left, depending on my use.
Just not sure why my wife's 12 Pro with about same amount of charge cycles is still 100% (in IOS and iMazing).
I was hoping battery meter was just calibrated different way to track wear more linear but I doubt that after checking both our phones.

Also my AW 6 seems dropping battery health fast, now only 1 year old battery just dropped to 95% yesterday.
For comparison my over 4 year old AW3 is still 100% and I do not see any drop in battery runtime from new. Absolutely the same. I still use that watch as my sleep watch every night (since I got my AW6 1 year ago). Before that I used it daily (not during night).

Cheaper lithium cells used by Apple’s battery suppliers , I’m seeing a trend from the iPhone 12 onwards perhaps in regard to rapid cell degradation but no solid evidence as of yet.

It could be that but my 12 Pro has Sunwoda battery which I believe is decent despite it is not one of the "traditional" known brands. My previous X also had Sunwoda battery and while it started out pretty weak (probably due to phone was pretty old stock and was nearly celebrating its 1st birthday when I got it), it was pretty stable and health drops were linear and long apart

Sunwooda or others that manufacture the batteries are using lower grade lithium cells now perhaps. That’s what I was trying to say.

Yeah, I got it that way too but was hoping these "new" Chinese brands would not have yet go that route to win customers. Also I'm still toying with the idea that battery meter might have been adjusted different way. But I'm probably having my hopes too high because this lowering mV can't be just metering thing, unless this value is also pulled out of the hat too.

  • Hello everyone! I've been doing some nitty observations on battery health recently and want to share my results with you. I tracked "Battery Health" reading from iOS Settings and also Battery Cycles number (there are several well known ways to check that). So, I tracked this readings for ~150 days while my battery health decreased from 94% to 91%. I plotted this data (also added starting point with 100% health at 0 cycle), and extrapolated all of this to the point where battery health may be at 80%.
  • The data shows that battery health may hit 80% level at approximately 623rd cycle.
  • And from my point of view, this aligns well with Apple well known claims about 80% battery health at 500 cycles.
  • So maybe some of us should be a little more relaxed about their batteries in long range perspective. Everything will be just fine)

My 12 Pro battery health started to "improve". Now in iMazing it is back to nearly 100% (has been between 99-99.7%). That improvement happened after some of the recent IOS updates and when it happened, I noticed that battery voltage was no longer "gapped" to 4428mV just when battery was fully charged. Now it reach 4447-4448mV (highest possible 4450mV), so I doubt issue was not with the battery but some IOS or hardware feature put 4428mV gap there (obviously without real reason) and it was removed now.

So now around 160 charge cycles and health nearly 100%. Can't complain. :)

BTW, IOS battery health still shows 97% but I think that is "one way" counter and it never goes up unless you actually replace the battery even battery health obviously is "better" now...

I know it’s anecdotal but my iPhone 8, which I used for 2.5 years, ended up at 83% battery health. My current iPhone Mini 12 is sitting at 84% after 1.5 years. The battery appears to be wearing down faster… I charged each phone once per day to 100% and have been consistent that way with both phones.

I'm curious (not to prove a point - pure curiosity) - do you think you use your mini 12 more than you did your 8? Or do you think the usage was about the same?

I too have noticed that my older phones seemed to have lasted a lot longer on the health scale (I watched my batteries with coconutBattery from the days of 6+) - than the phones today do. But I THINK I use my phone a hell of a lot more than I did back then. My phones back then spent a LOT of time sitting on the desk doing nothing whereas today I use my phone almost every hour of the day for something.

I know my phone now is used to open my car, set the house temperature, I send 60x the texts today than I did before, and I use my phone to check bank and many other things I used to only do on my PC, etc. etc.

BUT despite all that, I do think batteries back then were more robust. But I sure am utilizing my phone a lot more than I have.

I use my phones just as much now as I did back in 2016. I go through exactly one charge per day. If I fall short one day I will just charge my phone and revert to my iPad at home. I never charge at work so my charging habits are the same now as before. I charge through the night to 100% almost without fail. My 12 Mini battery has been disappointing as it’ll be <80% before I reach the 2 year mark.

My 12 Mini was purchased in the middle of November 2020, it's currently showing 90% battery. I charge it overnight on a regular basis. My wife purchased a 12 Mini a few weeks before mine, and her battery is showing 85% with a similar charging pattern. I do use my phone a lot, mainly browsing.

That sucks. Mine is at 92%. I try to avoid to completely deplete the battery, and to charge it to 100%, though…

Edit: I can sometimes do 2-3 quick fast charges per day (20W wired) during intensive use, for about 20-30 minutes each time. But it’s not really an issue for me at least…

I usually deplete my battery to 10% each day before charging it up which I know is not good user behaviour. I will get Apple to replace the battery around year 2 because I plan to keep using this phone long term.

iPhone 12 Mini is the worst when it comes to battery health. In 1 yr, the battery is down to 84% with 300 charge cycles. It’s at 84% since 3 months now. I thought it will go below 80% before my warranty is up. But bad luck. I will have to pay ₹5500 ($75) to get it replaced. I guess Apple wants to recoup all the battery costs and battery replacement programs it has run over the years. The battery health is carefully adjusted to drop below 80% just after 1 year.

I had 89% battery health on my iPhone 8+ when I sold it after just over 2 years use. My iPhone 12 is 18 months old now and on 85%. By early evening I am into the last 20% power and to be honest it’s poor for a less than 2 year old device that cost £800. I hope Apple sort this issue out as I don’t expect a battery to degrade so fast compared to older technology. It should be improving not going backwards.

My 13 pro that a I purchased on January 31st 2022 has a battery health of 99% as of today. I charged it 99% of the time with the 5w apple charger. Same thing happened to my 12 pro after I got the battery replaced. Looks like apple wants us to buy a new iPhone every year?

My 14 months old iPhone 12 Pro is at 87% health. I have no idea if this is normal or not. I did speak to Apple support the other day and they did some tests and said it’s all fine.

I do have Apple Care+ on my iPhone. So I am just now worried that it will probably go down to 80% after the Apple care+ runs out and then will have to buy a new battery at full cost. Unless Apple gives me the option to renew my Apple care+ after the 2 years are over.

You can go month to month after the 2 years are over.
