If I pull the trigger I will opt for the 6.5" Pro. I use my phone as my primary device for everything and watch a lot of media content on it. I have no use for tablets and don't pick up my MacBook nearly as much. For watching Netflix, sports, TV, videos, etc. I much prefer the screen real estate of the 6.5" Pro.

I have a XS Max now, so definitely go the 11 Pro Max route, but I am not pulling the trigger on ordering. I am waiting for next year's phone, when it has 5G, possibly both Touch and Face ID and maybe a full screen without the notch. I like the new phone a lot, but incremental upgrades, like a 3rd camera is not doing it for me this year.

I'll be getting a 64GB Pro Max as soon as I can get my hands on one. I have zero need for it (and a XR in perfectly working order), but whatever

I now have the iPhone XS Max and really like the size, and the camera—especially the camera. The extra screen size allows me to begin editing my photos right on the iPhone. I’m in the new phone-a-year program so I’ll be getting a new phone this year anyway, and I’ll stay with the larger size.

The “camera bump” doesn’t bother me as, to me, it affords more camera options to play with. I’m already planning to make more videos just to play with the new options in the video mode.

My biggest gripe against the X and the XS was the battery life. With the increased batt life of the Pro I thinking I might be able to move off my XS Max now.

To answer your title question, ill be getting the Pro Max. Your polling question, I much prefer the size of the Pro. Only reason im getting the Pro Max is because of the extra battery life and camera. Ill be using the Max as both my personal/work phone.

I would stick with my X for one more year, but my son's 6 is dying. So I will probably upgrade and pass my X to my wife and her 7s to my son.

I do love the extra screen realestate. But the Max is just so big to lug around. I am leaning 55 pro / 45 pro max.
uggggg help me decide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I am just curious, if you really prefer the size of the Pro, do you consider the tradeoffs to the Pro Max truly worth it? They have the exact same cameras and the Pro Max only offers 2 hours more video playback (up to 20 hours vs up to 18 hours of the Pro).

I tried telling my wife I’m in the new car a year program. It didn’t work.

iPhone Pro Max.

If I didn't use it as a primary filming device then I would have gone for the regular Pro - using an iPhone X currently after using a XS Max and for general usability there's really no need to go Max. Seeing more while filming pushes me to get the Max.

What are your thoughts on 256GB vs 512GB?
With the 4K/60 HDR recording capabilities I see myself doing a lot more video than I did on my 256GB iPhone X, but I never came close to filling 256 on the X. I do have iCloud and local media for offloading, but I was thinking of having plenty of space for doing a lot of shooting.

I'm probably going to do this on Apple iUP so I can trade in to the 2020 phone next year so I might only have this one for one year. Perhaps it's a waste but I've found myself regretting not getting the max storage in the past.

Since you use it a lot for video, what size do you plan to get?

Thanks

Would you say video playback hours will mirror everyday usage hours closely? I honestly didn’t bother looking into the specifications since Apple claimed the Pro Max has 5 hours more battery life compared to the XS Max *which already had pretty great battery life*

It’s tough for me to say. I know companies tend to use that as a benchmark. So in that example, a video would be looped to play over and over using radios constantly via a WiFi connection. The same ratings over cellular drops to 10 hours. But they don’t tell us things such as what brightness is set at. The 5.8” Pro is said to get up to 4 hours longer battery life than the XS.

I would hate to steer you in the wrong direction. But I’d also hate to see you end up with a phone size you dislike over 1-2 hours of battery life over the course of a full day.

I went form an iPhone 6 to an iPhone 7 Plus because that year you had to get the Plus to get the second camera and I thought "Maybe I'll like the bigger screen."
The larger screen is certainly nice, typing on it is easier, web browsing and everything else is certainly a better experience, but I never really got used to the size and the weight. I carry mine in my pocket and it was big and heavy, even with a relatively thin case on it. I also am not a big person with big hands. I found I had to have a pop socket on it to handle it.

So when he X came out with a larger screen in a smaller body with the same camera options as the Max, I was excited to get back down to a smaller phone. I personally value portability over screen size. If I really want a larger screen I turn to my iPad 9.7" that I got during Black Friday for about $300is. I'm just not the kind of person who spends hours watching video or doing a lot of things on my phone. I have computers and tablets for that heavy lifting.

So each to his own on preference, but these are factor to consider. The Max really is a very big phone, especially if you have a case on it. I still look at those and wonder how my friends can carry them, but some of them are big guys. However, if you really want a great sit-down experience with a phone or do a lot of photography and video and want the lager display or that, the larger is likely going to enhance the experience.

Heck, I even considered the iPhone XR or iPhone 7 for a few minutes but I'm not sure I even want a 6.1" phone. Besides, I really value the "2x" camera above most else.

I filmed a 40 minute 4K video once on a 128GB XR (tried it out before returning it) and it worked just fine. I’m in the 256GB club.

If the prices were lower this year I still would’ve gone for 256GB.

My rule of thumb is 128GB for personal use and 128GB for filming.

Hope that helps :)
