Are you going to see Prometheus in 2D or 3D?

Went to see it yesterday with friends after dinner. The next showing at a good cinema was in 3D but apart from me they all opposed it. Ended up seeing the 2D version in a local packed multiplex.

I thought it was pretty good in 2D, but since it was filmed in 3D I kind of want to go see it again...

Saw it (Twice) on IMAX 3D at Manchester Printworks, awesome film, the 3D effects are subtle and throughout add depth to the film without making it cheesy like in most 3D films....... also the absence of 'over use of lens flair' that is plaguing the film industry since JJ Abrahams (Star Trek & Super 8 were irritating because of this!).

The film was beautiful visually and the sound was awesome.

Definitely recommended.

it was shot in 3D

Even with films shot in 3D, I've always preferred 2D. It's not the additional cost of ticket, then cost of glasses, Cinema has always been 2D for me, that extra dimension does not enhance the emotional reactions to the movie.

I used to think 3D was a waste of money and just a publicity stunt (well, more or less I still think so). But: the Avengers was great on 3D. Really impressive and visually challenging. And having seen Prometheus trailer on 3D I'm thinking it will amount to an equally challenging vision. If there is a film that can benefit from 3D, that's it.

I'd love to see it in 3d and I'll probably will but if the 2D showtimes is more conducive to me, I'll just go and see it that way.

How was the story? Does it tie into the Alien saga?

Saw the 2D version today.

Quite good!

After reading your reviews, I'm feeling better after a viewer from the U.K. gave it a 3/5 and said Ridley Scott had forgotten how to make movies...

I've read that you brain turns 2D/perspective on the screen into 3D for your viewing pleasure. The manipulated 3D on the screen can't compare to the 3D the brain sees anyway. I saw Avatar in 3D. It was spectacular. But most times I prefer 2D.

2D because I don't want to see a possibly scary movie in 3D lol.

This!!

Hehe! :)

Watched in 3D last night. Don't bother. Wait for the DVD release. Not what I was expecting at all.

Shutt'up!! (I love saying that.:))

Here is what the critics are saying at Rotten Tomatoes. There seems to be some issues, but I got to see it on the big screen...TOMORROW, Early Matinee!! Crap, the kids are out of school!!! The key to greatness is if I agree to purchase this title after. Stay tuned... ;)

Kind of... it your expecting a direct prequel then no, not really, where i think a lot of people are going wrong. It does have some very good 'nods' to the original film, some bits seem a bit 'rushed' but all in all it's a very good film.

Are you INSANE? 2D for me, I don't want alien teeth flashing out over my head...

If I knew you well I'd say you where a horror movie P***Y (but then again I think that would creep me out as well). After all having meds to put me asleep as a child with "The Thing"(82) and seeing the first airing of the trailer for its prequel last year and having issues again ... I'd say I was the P***Y :)

But for this movie ... all out top notch 3D!!

Anyone check this movie out, was it worth the wait?

Yes. This movie reminds me of 2001 A Space Odyssey. I saw the movie before I read the book and remembering muttering, wtf? The book made it all clear and then I was amazed. :) I think enjoying Prometheus requires first getting rid of Alien expectations, and then digesting what you just witnessed.

I'm picturing you as a child watching The Thing. When I was a child I watched the original The Thing From Outer Space on TV with a blanket over my head, lol. It's true, the only time I've seen things flash out over my head in a 3D movie was at Disney world.

My real issues with 3D on the screen regardless of the genre, is that it's not natural. When they can make it like look like a holograph that does not require glasses and charge extra, then maybe. :)

I wanted to see it in 2D, but missed a showing by 20 minutes and saw it in 3D instead, which I regretted.

Overall I thought the glasses degraded the visual quality of the film - which is really good. The 3D effect also doesn't work that well in dark scenes (of which there were many), so wearing them was kind of pointless.

3D is a gimmick whose time is running out.

That was me and I'm still right.

Perhaps I should be kinder to Scott and lay the blame with Damon Lindelof. It's his script that's responsible for the lack of suspense and character development.

Disagree. Avatar is just not the same on 2D BluRay as it was in 3D in the theater. Cameron/visual effects artists did a bang up job using 3D as a subtle effect. I think it adds a lot to the feeling of the movie.

My only question is to see it in IMAX 3D or RealD? RealD is superior but I've heard I should "see Prometheus on the largest screen possible."

Cameron made Avatar to be a showcase for 3D. That's how it turned out.

In an interview I listened to (the Mark Kermode one), Ridley Scott didn't seem 100% in favour of 3D and described his 2D cut as "actually quite beautiful". I don't think it's been created to be a 3D showcase at all... so I think you're incorrect in assuming that 3D is the obvious choice to see this in.
