Are you going to sell your iPad 2 when the new iPad is released or keep it?

  • Keep it, I love mine, don't want the hassle of selling it, just don't want a new iPad.

How - when you don't know what the new iPad will have yet? It could just have an upgraded camera or something!

maybe, but i doubt it. the ipad 2 hardware has already been far surpassed by asus, among others, and i haven't known apple to rest on their laurels in the past.

i am pretty certain there will be at the very least an improved processor, more ram, and a better camera. but, i am, of course, expecting a better display this time.

if the display is not improved, i think i will be disappointed. crossing my fingers.

Sold my ipad 2 yesterday for $425.00 on craigslist.

32GB, Wifi only, Black

Good deal I think, now I can upgrade for about $200ish, hopefully! :D

Sold!

iPad 3 is going to be my <3rd!

Sold iPad 1 (64GB/3G/Wifi) for $595 which included Apple's vinyl case and a green silicone skin. This was done over Craiglist to "KarlW".

I sold iPad 2 (64/Wifi) this past Saturday for $530 which included a Smart Cover and a case. This time,... no craigslist... I just contacted "KarlW" again and we met a week later for the buy. He told me we could do every year as far as he was concerned. No troubles at all.

Sure I lost money, but on average over the last couple of years, it works out to renting the devices for about $24 a month. I'm ok with this.

Ultimately, I wish I could afford to just simply trade up, having kept both the iPad 1 and 2. They are both beautiful and very functional. Unfortunately, I can't justify it with the pocket book.

Looking forward to iPad 3!!!

It's useful ... while someone *ahem* was on the toilet...
We have a "no bathroom" rule for our iPad at our house.

That's pathetic. If I (which I never will) even attempted to give my wife an older device in turn for a newer one for myself, she will become upset.
Most ladies just don't care, so... it's not so pathetic.

My wife and I almost had a fight over me giving her iPad 2. The year before, iPad 1 was mine, with my stuff on it, and she borrowed it. I sold it, got iPad 2 and put her stuff on it and borrowed it. The fight was because she didn't want me to be without all of stuff and insisted that I keep it and she continue to borrow. I won out. That said, I just sold hers, as I said, this past Saturday.

We're both getting 3's this year and calling it quits until iPad 5, skipping 2013's iPad 4.

----------

I don't have an iPad 2 :L

I may buy the iPad 3 if it has a retina display. Or shall I wait for the iPad 4? Or shall I just be hapoy I have the iPad 1?

Choices choices choices :p
Going from iP1 to iP2, there was a significant and noticeable increase in speed. Also have the cameras were nice for FaceTime calls which I use a lot. Do what you want, but the difference between iP1 and iP3 is going to be a serious wow-factor.

It makes me laugh how many people commit to buying the latest iPad before its even announced.

Fools and their money are easily parted ;)
Laugh all you want. Enjoy!

To me, a Fool is an idiot who keeps tech around long after he finally realizes he hasn't really used the legacy technology in months, decides to sell and discovers it isn't worth anything to anyone at that point. So you keep the now-beat-up-thing or you polish the turd and try to get next to nothing for it.

We foolish people sell a little early in order to maximize our profits. Sure you don't have an iPad for a month or so, but there's the laptop.

Nobody's committed to buying the next version by selling their current ipad.

No matter what is announced, there will be tons of ipad2's available. Refurbs from Apple were a really good deal; and also screwed the ipad1 resale prices. The formerly $829 ipad 3G 64GB units were $659 and the $500 16GB wifi units hit $350 as refurbs, which included one year warranty plus brand new batteries and outer shells.

Assuming you didn't give away your ipad2, in the worst case you go buy a replacement ipad2 and have leftover money in your pocket.

Apple rested on their laurels with the 4S. They released a phone that was on par/slightly better than six month old tech (Galaxy S2), knowing that they wouldn't release a better device for another year.

Apple can rest on their laurels as much as they want when they're the most profitable company in the world.

I guarantee very few people will be doing that. Most people are selling their iPads now in readiness for buying an iPad 3. Nobody sells current gen products to buy current products.. again. That's bonkers :p

I agree; they're assuming the new one will be worth getting, especially with the reduced price delta of selling the old one now vs. later.

You however stated they were committed to buying ipad3's regardless of what it turns out to be. My point is they're not committed; if it turns out to be not worth getting (very unlikely) then they can go back to an ipad2 and likely have money left over.

Fair point.

I think a lot of people have to have the latest and greatest gadgets whether they need them or not. The amount of people I've seen get the 4S for Siri and they don't even use it now..it's amazing.

I've been guilty of it myself in the past..but I now stop and think, will I actually make use of these upgrades once the novelty of them wears off? The answer is usually no and saves me a few £100.

There's nothing I wish the current iPad could do that it doesn't do. If eventually my needs change and I decide to buy a new device, and by this point my iPad is worth next to nothing, that doesn't make me an idiot. That just means I was happy with what I had.

Since we have no real information on the iPad 3 I'm undecided, but if I want one I'll just buy it, probably keep both though.

i actually thought the 4s was a nice advance. it didn't blow me away. but, it was completely expected with their tick/tock strategy. a big tick and a smaller tock (like intel). an ipad 1 tick, and an ipad 2 tock. 3g -> 3gs, 4 -> 4s -> 5.

ipad 3 had sure better be a tick :)

I just sold me iPad 2 3G 16gb today for $500.00. I never even activated the 3G service on it. It was less than 3 months old and I had paid $530.00 for it, so I'll live with having used it for about $10/month. I figure when the iPad 3 comes out, I'll probably just go with the WiFi version for about that same exact amount.

I'd vote, but there is no option for me. I'm buying the iPad 3 and giving my 2 to my Mom and Dad.

IMO it makes very little sense to keep it. You can get the majority of your money back by selling it and for a hundred bucks or so on top of that you can get a brand new fresh from China higher spec device with a full one year warranty. Or you could hold onto a device that will begin to get less and less support from Apple and third-party developers and be perceived as outdated and therefore much less valuable to potential buyers.

Just sold my 32GB wifi iPad 2 for $500... Think i made out great! Pre-ordering the 3 as soon as possible.

I don't have the iPad 2 so I can't vote. I'm thinking about the iPad 3 but I don't care for one with a camera so I'm thinking just keep the iPad 1 which I use a lot and love. If they made one again without a cam I'd probably buy it; i know my iPad 1 will croak someday but my usage meanwhile doesn't require a fast chip. So... I'm waiting. If I bought an iPad 3, I'd give the iPad 1 to a neighbor with kids since they usually get my older laptops when I upgrade.

Really comes down to battery life. The iPhone 4S was a step down and while a great device, I do use my iPad a lot. A hit in battery life might be a no go.

i'm going to keep mine. at least until i've got a steady job and a jailbreak is out for the next iteration. apple makes strides but there are something's i absolutely must have provided with a jailbreak.

Youre claiming you dont need it, but if that were true then you wouldnt be wasting so mich time tryong to convince others that they dont need it either so it seems you're just over justifying.

The "There's nothing I wish the current iPad could do that it doesn't do" excuse is tired because its said every generation for every Apple product. People felt they dont need backlit keyboards, HD webcams, extra storage, SSD speed, but once they become standard specs then suddenly these same people don't want to go back. Just look at the iPhone retina display. Rarely did people complain about screen res but the retina spec came out of nowhere AT NO ADDITIONAL COST and now if any competing phone lacks a high pixel density then its considered junk. So why wouldn't the necessity for better resolution be amplified on a larger device that can visibly benefit from it?
