buddy got an s3, phone is legit but i cant get over the fact that id be leaving the apple eco. im so far in.. every iphone since release day.. im sorta no longer impressed visually by iOS, and having the beta its sorta like nothing new to be expected tomorrow.. but its just beyond hard to leave, and lets not talk about all the crazy $ ive spent on the appstore. ugh :/ apple :(

I'm a invested but I like it and honestly, if another solutions was better, I'd just buy it. People act like buying some other phone is some kind of epic financial decision ... if [for example] the Galaxy S III was better, I'd buy one tomorrow, regardless of contracts, etc., it's just not that major of an expense in the grand scheme of things. I'm aware of all the available products, have a reasonable perspective on the range of available technology ... I'm just extraordinarily happy with our Apple products :)

Sucks for those of us that have an iPhone, PS3, Xbox 360, 3DS, Samsung Vibrant, Nexus and a Windows PC. Why? All different OSes and the only thing that seems to be consistent....is...Amazon and Netflix!:D Not to mention my TV is from Panasonic so there is virtually no communications with the devices.:D

Problem is I haven't found a compelling enough reason to get an iPad or Mac yet so that's that slows things down. I'll see with the new Windows tablets but this just sucks.

The issue is that I'm not a 'fanboy' per say and will get whatever fits MY needs, which does come at a cost. For example, I hate using Photoshop on Windows...but love it on a Mac.No company has yet made that 'ecosystem' what I want to fully invest.

Reading the replies from this thread, it's nice to know we honest fans do exist. :) I'm not exactly 100% deep in the eco system but getting very close to it. I only buy a blu-ray here and there that don't exist in iTunes (gotta have Star Wars!), and a game here and there on Steam that I think wouldn't hit iOS or OSX for years, if ever. But all new music, apps, books, TV shows, most of movies, and games if available, I buy from Apple.

I agree that the way in which Apple has designed their eco system and in the direction they are going with it makes me extremely content. As long as they continue to push for content from studios and developers and tie it all together with awesome hardware and iCloud, I don't see myself ever leaving the Apple ecosystem. Happy all around.

Actually...I wish steam was on the Xbox 360. That would be SOOOOOOO SWEEET.

It would be nice but I hear MS are a pain in the @$$ with how they manage Xbox Live for developers.

Anyway, word is Valve is releasing their own hardware so that should shake things up!

At some point you may find easy interopability part of your needs.

That definitely became something I wanted, plus easier device sharing (for example, the wife being able to pick up my phone and quickly shoot a picture vs. wading through my ROM-of-the-Week UI to find the camera...).

I see a fun game for our little one, I buy it through iTunes and it's on all our devices. I drop a video in iTunes, I can walk over to any of the main TVs and it's available (also to the iPads). I realize this exists in some capacity via DLNA, etc., but it's generally pretty effortless on our Apple gear, and I kind of prefer my free time not involving wrestling with technology since that's what I do 12_ hours a day professionally. :)

Ditto. But I stop after 8. :p

Hahaha, we work out of a home office, so I'm sort of always at work, or never at work ... I guess it depends on your perspective :D

I'm _kind_ of at work now, but tomorrow we're basically bailing on work about 1pm so it all works out :)

I love all my Apple stuff. MacBook Pro, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, everything works beautifully together and I'm content.

Not really...

I have an iPhone 4 and iPad 1.

Only thing is I spent quite a bit money on the App Store. Usually $50/per (4 years now).

DLNA is kind of worthless. None of the products I've used with it stream well. Not sure how Apple did with with Apple TV....but folks need to take note!

Yeah, the implementations on each device are flakey too ... like I shared the same media in iTunes across our internal network [mostly GB wired] via Plex and the PS3 had a couple of stutters and the upstairs Sony 55EX720 couldn't see the media at all (though it could see the containers and server).

The other day I wanted to show the wife something on a site, had her switch to the Apple TV on the downstairs set and used AirPlay to show her something in my browser. Simple and worked perfect.

The creation of iTunes, the app model & other proprietary aspects of Apple's ecosystem are proof of Apples brilliance, and clever long term plans to capture users for life.

They've created a psychological grip on people that's so strong, that only the truly independent, self reliant people will have the desire to walk away whenever they want.

The others feel so deeply invested, so emotionally attached, they will go to great lengths to offer reasons why they're better off remaining a captive of Apple.

The brilliance of Apple's strategy is proven by the massive user base, their huge revenue, and the rather zealot like behavior of their masses.

It's Apples dream come true. Followers so loyal they brag about Apples earnings as though it's their own.

I'm not that deep.
1) I have some paid apps (not *that* many) and i don't use any of them.
2) itunes tv show purchases ... I never keep them on my devices
3) Music can be transferred.

That being said, I don't really care to switch. I like my devices. I've an Ipad and Iphone so I would still be able to take advantage of my stuff if I went to android.

I'm surprised Apple doesn't get more credit for that.

As a student, one of the biggest frustrations for me is not being able to share things instantly. Always gotta convert and stuff unless someone is on an Apple product. Like when I tried showing a pic for my design class it oh so happens that we (surpsingly) had an Apple TV for sharing. Just easy peezy!:D

For a system to work well, you need to invest in it, so I guess you could consider that being in deep.

For hardware, I own an iMac/iPhone/iPad/AppleTV, and it's amazing the things I can do with them. When you pair that with quality software and services (iTunes Homeshare, AirPlay, iCloud, iMessage, etc) it becomes quite the total solution that is hard to match with a hodgepodge of Android/Microsoft solutions.

Once the time comes that any one part of that breaks down, I'll look at other alternatives. But I hope that doesn't happen for a while, I'm quite happy with where Apple is now, and hopes to be into the future.

Not deep in the system at all as far as purchased apps (have two or three) or songs and movies (have yet to purchase any) goes and I don't have an Apple TV, use my PS3 with the Playback app on my Mac to access media. As far as iCloud goes, I use Google for everything, not tied to the Apple system on that front either. Glad I never felt inclined to get deep into it, as now it is much easier for me to make the switch to an Android phone+tablet combo.

I'm deep into the Apple ecosystem, with an iPhone, iPad, iMac and 2 AppleTV units. I could dump my iPhone for another phone if I wanted and depending on tomorrow's announcement I just might, but I doubt it.

I mostly just use my phone for a few apps and a few games now. My iPad is the main iOS device and has been for a few years. Now that there are other, quality non-iOS phones out there I could more easily switch. I'd rather not though.

Jelly Bean doesn't come out on the GS3 until October... Do you mean Ice Cream Sandwich? Or did you hack it?

I wish Jelly Bean would have been released before the new iPhone came out, so I could try it out before I return the GS3. Oh well, I will try it later. Maybe next year :D

I hacked it, but that my whole point. Thats why I think android is better, you can do what you want with your property. I wonder how long it will take to jailbreak the new iphone, if it is even pos.

I get that, but there are plenty of people who dont know how to do that, and plenty who aren't willing to try...

My problem is how long it takes for Android phones to get the "Official" updates... The GS2 took forever to get ICS. The GS3 is one of the current Flagship Android phones, I would have thought they would try to push JB (4.1) to it before the launch of the new iPhone.

Yeah, I am undoubtedly engrained deep into the Apple ecosystem. iPhone, iPad, 2 iMac's and used to have a MacBook Pro. Plus all the integration between OS X, iOS, iTunes and apps etc....

I don't mind it at all as everything seems to work together quite smoothly for me. I would like to see better cooperation and integration between Apple and Google since I use Gmail as my primary email service and the Google calendar.

I don't know what Apple would do that could make me dump them...
