I think you are reading a bit too much into a poll that is clearly not representative of all of those who have purchased the laptop. It does not tell us anything about overall buyer satisfaction. It just provides a little fun for discussion.
I think that’s an understatement -30% of apple-sheep worshipers (me included) deciding to return it is alarming

Again, I take these polls with a pinch of salt, another recent poll did allow you to see who voted what and it takes a couple of minutes to check that people who voted in the negative also have posted saying they would not buy the M2. But they voted in the poll anyway.

I don't care either way, just saying.

The base model is a disappointment plain & simple. Apple could have come up with a better solution if it wanted. Throttling isn't the issue in such a device, however the single nand SSD is very much a limitation to those that multitask. A 50% reduction in SSD R/W is significant to say the least and a factor that needs to be considered.

Kind of ironic as the Air was originally a high price, low performance notebook. Shifted to the one of the most popular and well priced notebooks, only to return to the original premise...

Based on reading this thread, it appears most buyers of the new Air are those who already have a MacBook Pro.
Yes and no, I'd like the new M2 Air but needing to double the storage & SSD to get a solid performance, no sale. I'll stick with my base M1 13" MBP. Apple can do as it pleases, equally not interested in the new Air until the prices make sense...

I ended up returning my Midnight Air. I loved the color, the screen, and the build of it. I haven't used a 13" laptop in a while and was thinking of moving over to that from my 16" as I travel a lot more now and do most of my heavy work from home on my Studio. The 13" just felt too small for me. It was awkward on my lap (I'm 6'7) and just didn't feel comfortable to type on.

Outside of the size, if they made a 15" Air in Midnight it would be an immediate buy for me.

Thanks to the OP for starting the thread and poll. It’s interesting to see people’s responses. That said, I really don’t think this poll is representative of typical M2 MBA buyers. I am not knocking it, but let’s face it MR readers are not your typical MBA consumers. There are a lot of folks with MBP that are experimenting with stretching the machine to be a replacement. Also, there are M1 MBA owners on this thread that updated to the M2 because they like having the latest. Then, get disappointed that it is only an incremental improvement. The typical M2 MBA consumer isn’t likely to be upgrading from an M1. Average consumers keep their laptops for 5+ years….so, I would guess that most M1 owners just aren’t in the market for a new laptop.

well having both I can tell you they look completely different and feel completely different. The air m2 feels firm and shallow and the kids feel a bit larger and closer on the MBP M1 14, and squishier. its defiantly not the same..
I think your feeling about it being shallow is right, I remember seeing it mentioned in one of the reviews too that MBA M2 has shorter key travel (I think it was maybe Max Tech some video with 9 or 10 issues with MBA M2 or similar, I can't remember exactly).

Anyway, I'll get MBP 14", I considered MBA M2 for a long time as my next machine but it just feels much worse and overpriced with 16/512 against MBP 14". I think MBA M1 is better choice for the ones who need light and small machine. I had one, it was just so much more solid machine IMHO.

yes that's why I get frustrated when everyone says the keyboard 'are the same' they are NOT the same, they feel totally different to me... the MBA M2 feels just like the 12" MB ... the MBP 14 feels much better for travel IMO! Not even close..

Look at the past, it usually takes them a few years to get the price back down. For the 2008 MacBook Air, it wasn’t until the redesigned Air in 2010 (3 years).

The introduction of 2015 Retina MacBook is another example, the MacBook Air didn’t end up getting retina until 2018.

So, you are looking at 2024 or 2025 before Apple makes it more affordable again. They will likely keep the price and maybe bring processor down to the older chassis to keep cost down.

I agree and will take time, but the base model SSD issue is far from good being a big differnce to the M1's...

I think it was on the Ifixit forum someone had said the M2 MBA keyboard is the same part as the 14 MBP. Of course, they could have tweaked it nonetheless.

But
the MBA M2 feels just like the 12" MB

That ^^ is the biggest piece of nonsense I have heard so far ;)

maybe because I have these and used to them? (the 12")..

I have both the M2 Air and M1P MBP in front of me right now, and the Air's key travel is noticeably shallower. They might have the same design but they are definitely tweaked differently.

I also had the 12" MB (my all time favorite Mac) and that one was like tying on solid surface, quite different than M2 Air.

I just received my M2 Air and I also have the 12" MacBook here. The keyboard is a difference like night and day. I mean just look at the keys – the MacBook Air has at least double the travel of the MacBook. To say it feels the same requires a really strong reality distortion field.
