I am too old for this

I am too old for this, I just disabled 'natural' scroll. It does not feel natural to me.

those who complains regarding the new scrolling, you need to have spend some time in order to get that feel.

once you got it, you will love it.

Workable on the Touchpad but not with a mouse

I gan get used to natural scroll on the Touchpad, but it feels awkward on the mouse wheel. I wish there was a way to configure it separately for the mouse wheel and the Touchpad.

think all you who are hating on it really should give it a chance

feels MUCH better than the old "wrong way"

I've just gone back to the old way....my thinking is: I am capable of scrolling very well anyway, and I fail to see that reversing it will make me any better at it, more likely it will just make me annoyed whenever I use another computer. Not convinced at all.....

No way. Why should I? I've been scrolling the same way as long as I can remember and Apple comes along and says, "LOL, DO IT BACKWARDS. IT'S NATURAL. WE JUST MADE THAT UP."

It makes sense on a screen where you're physically touching it to scroll. But, not with a mouse or trackpad.

Nobody ever said, "oh, I wish I could invert the scrolling."

Nobody.

Same here. In fact, the wording of the options (to paraphrase, the mouse pref pane has "scroll inverse" and the trackpad pref pane has "when using gestures, scroll inverse) seems to imply that you should be able to set it up separately for mice and trackpads. However, it doesn't actually work this way. Hopefully that will be fixed in an update.

I hate it. Thing with the iPad/iPod/iPhone you ARE touching the screen, so that feels natural. I'm not touching the screen on my iMac, I'm touching the magic mouse so it feels weird.

I'm using it. I'm confused by all these comments like, "I can't believe apple would change the way scrolling works!"... If you don't like it, go to system preferences and change it back. I for one love the new way, and find it frustrating to use other computers.

When I first loaded Lion, I was freaked to find it was doing that to begin with, had to come online to find out how to disable it.

I tried it, and while I could see conceptually how it's supposed to be the "natural" way to do it, it's only truly the "natural" thing to do when you're on a tablet and scrolling with your finger.

If you're still using a mouse like I am, it's very backwards and I'm not re-enabling it.

After years of using a scroll wheel, it does feel very odd. It's also very sensitive and the commands that I've grown used to are not working, creating different results. I've only played with it for about 30 minutes, and am going to give it a bit longer, but I'm on the Windows machine at work and I don't have to rethink how to use my mouse. I have a feeling that it will be turned off by days end.

This was explained for instance at the WWDC. Apple is not interested in touch screens for lap/desktops as your whole arm would become very tired while interacting with the screen; however, with a trackpad your hand is in a rested position. This way of scrolling is also relevant to trackpads.

It's still irrelevant on a track pad!

Twenty-three years ago, I (being the designated alpha-geek), was volunteered for the job of teaching my mother-in-law how to use her Mac SE-FD/HD.

I distinctly remember trying to explain that she was moving the viewing window over the document. She didn't get the disconnect between the view and the document (she had just mastered using the mouse at all). I really think she'd "get" the new "natural" method, even 23 years later (she was 60, iirc, when the SE arrived at her birthday party).

Though I can't see a need for it myself, the "show all files" Finder option might help her too. Always had the darnest time with the concept of folders. this way, the finder worries about making the "folders", without actually showing any hierarcy.

For me, I intellectually understand the reason for the new natural scrolling, but I do end up the wrong way at times. I'm betting I'll get used to it...soon... :-/

It'll be hard breaking a habit that started around 1984... ;)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

I thought Lion installed wrong. I have no idea why the default option is to reverse the standard scrolling direction that has been around years before I was born. It makes no sense to scroll down on a mouse and have the screen scroll up.

No, I turned it off. I wanted the scroll actions to be the same as iOS. The "natural" one is fine because the action mimics reality but I don't want to shift metaphors as I go from device to device.

My mum always tells me to move the page "up" when she means moving it down too. Maybe she would find it easier the "natural" way too. I'm just to used to the conventional way of scrolling.

I've been using it since I installed Lion because I didn't realise until only a while ago that it could be disabled  It is a tad awkward but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I think I'll stick with it for the time being and see how it goes.
