Yes that is correct, but the direction of swiping is opposite of what you would expect with natural scrolling even with natural scrolling turned on (in other words it does not change regardless of which scrolling method you use). That is the problem.

Why would you expect to swipe forward to go back a page?

Because the scrolling is inverted with natural scrolling. Otherwise in Safari if you wanted to go "back" with two fingers you would swipe the opposite direction as you would to go "back" with three fingers.

Took me like a day to get used to it, but not it actually feels pretty natural like it would on any other device. I'm using the Magic Trackpad though, I would probably not enjoy it this much with a traditional mouse

Ah, I see what you're saying. With natural scrolling enabled, 2-finger swipe works the opposite of 3-finger swipe. On my system, I only set "swipe with 3 fingers," not "swipe with 2 or 3 fingers," so I hadn't experienced the 2-finger swipe. I think that causes too much confusion, and I'll be sticking with 3-finger swipe.

Any change takes some adjusting to, but all this one needs is flicking the mental switch from 'pulling the screen down the page' to 'pushing the page up'.

I made quite a few mistakes in the first few hours, but after less than 24 hours it now feels absolutely right - especially in conjunction with the other gestures, and even more so flicking between Mac and iPad.

It does: you push the 'page' in the direction you want it to move.

Thanks.
It works today.....weird.

I'm giving it a go. It feels odd when you are use to something and then use it the other way around, but I'm getting use to it.

I'm using the new scroll direction. Takes a bit of getting used to, but its not so bad. However...

What annoys me about it is that it is change just for the sake of change. There isn't any actual clear benefit to have it one way or the other. Reversing the scroll direction isn't going to make software easier or faster to use.

Its like driving on the left vs driving on the right - neither is any more correct than the other, but once a convention has been established, changing is very disruptive and shouldn't be done without strong reasons.

Apple are being disrespectful to their users and wasting their time, either by making them spend time adjusting to the new scroll direction, or time going through system preferences and finding the option to turn it off.

It takes like 5 seconds to turn it off...
It would've been courteous to offer to switch it back upon the first boot, with a pop-up and everything. I was very confused at first and really though my mouse and trackpad were messed up.

I didn't like it at first, but then I realized I was already using it on my iPhone, so.. now I'm using it and I'm already used to it.

Bothered and confused me for 2 days. Now it feels completely, well, natural. Not a problem and will help switching back and forth between OS X and iPad. I highly recommend you stick it out for a few days.

Desktop Switching

I hope they add something to change the swipe direction of the desktop. If you use an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch swiping to the right goes back, but in Lion it goes forward. I am all over the place with these new gestures :(.

I decided to give it a try. I got used to it relatively quickly. I like it. It almost felt natural all along, honestly.

The benefit is for iPad and iPhone users. Many of the new features are to align OS X with IOS, to make it easier to upsell IOS users to the Mac. Launchpad and natural scrolling makes OS X work like the iPad/iPhone.

I've been switching back and forth. I can get used to it on the trackpad but I'm having trouble when using the scroll wheel of my mouse. I'm so used to having the screen go down when I move the wheel down...

never mind, just noticed with the natural scrolling on it works the same. I like it for scrolling left and right but not for up and down. I guess I just need more practice with it.

Actually, the natural scrolling only really applies to touchscreens where you can literally drag the content across the screen. When using a laptop or desktop you still do it remotely.

for this who are not using the new reversed scrolling, give them a chance, maybe couple days, after u get used to it you will feel it's much better than the old way.

I'm using a trackpad and a magic mouse too, all you have to do is imagine that your trackpad and your magic mouse are a screen. it will make u learn it quickly.

so, every time u want to scroll, imagine your fingers are on the screen, not on a trackpad or a mouse.

u'll thank me once u get used to this natural way, and indeed it feels really natural and makes sense. the old way doesn't make sense now to me.
