Only just moved back from Android so will keep my M4 IPP for a while. It seems incredibly smooth and snappy. My iPhone 16 pro is getting replaced with a 17 pro max though
It's likely for users still on the 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro. This iPad won't be for anybody who purchased the latest iPad within the last 2-3 years.I'm curious to see what else it has to offer aside from what has been rumored before deciding. So far, I haven't seen enough to upgrade from an M4 iPad Pro.
I am in a pickle. The tandem OLED on the M4 IPP gave me headaches (the first time for me on an OLED device), and my 2018 iPP has a terrible battery life and is a bit slow. I refuse to downgrade to an iPad Air (promotion is a must) or buy an M2 iPP as they are stupid money still. It's likely for users still on the 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro. Same here. Couldn’t care less about M4 vs M5 SOC but 16GB of RAM on the base model would significantly improve longevity of the iPad. If they stick with 8GB, I will look for an M4 sale instead.I’m waiting to see what the M5 base RAM is – if it’s 8GB, I’ll get an M4 in the inevitable clearance sales, but I’d prefer more than 8 (and the cost of the 1TB IPP is ludicrous if you primarily want the extra RAM, not the storage).
Have you tried turning off Auto brightness, true tone and night shift? With these modes ON, the screen dims which is where the PWM flickering is at its worst. Manually setting brightness to 45-50% works for me personally with no headaches etc.I am in a pickle. YES PLEASE!Only if it comes with a larger screen, say 15 inch.

Yes, I tried turning off those settings when i had it. I think increasing the brightness would have solved it, but i run all my displays (phone, monitor, etc) and very low brightness levels in general, so increasing it to abnormally high levels (for me) is not on the cards.Have you tried turning off Auto brightness, true tone and night shift? I hope this too.I have a strong feeling that it will come with 16GB at base given that 90% of Apple products start at 16GB (aside from the iPhone which probably will not go higher then 12GB for years)
I hope that too. And Nano on all Version.I hope this too.
But considering Apple stuck with 8GB Ram on their MacBooks for 10 years(!), i wouldn’t be surprised if Apple stick with 8GB Ram on their iPad Pros for many years to come, just so save a dime.
But i’m really hoping that i’m wrong.
what games are hitting it like this?My M1 iPad Pro simply no longer have the gaming performance that suits my needs and dropping frames on demanding games plus stutter is just painful. But M4 price being so expensive as is and the painful reality that I need 1TB storage minimum hurts it even more. Plus I need cellular. As this point since I can’t afford M4 now anyway might as well wait for M5 and see how it goes, all the while saving more money.
Honkai Star Rail. Also Genshin Impact.what games are hitting it like this?
The 2018 iPad Pro is going on the path of the iPad Air 2. The 2018 pro is still alive and kicking and it is still supported, so I cant seem much traction until it is finally not supported with the latest iOS. My wife is not a tech person at all and she just loves using her 2018 pro to watch shows and surf the web. it's even better than the air 2. The air 2 felt sluggish, especially when used next to the 9.7 pro. The 2018 is still snappy. Even for someone like me, used to M1/M2/M4 (I have the maxed out model, so more RAM and faster storage but I guess even the other models are very good). I also have a maxed out M1 and I had put the 2018 aside but I couldn't see any difference in speed and so I now put the M1 aside and went back to the 2018 (why? because the M1 is on iPadOS 15, without which I lose virtualization for Windows, and iPadOS 15 is starting to have issues, while the 2018 is on 17, which still supports almost everything). Although iPadOS 26 will be its last OS, I expect the 2018 to be fine for another 3-4 years at least, which is a 10+ year lifespan. Of course I don't expect anything less from the M1. I have babied the battery and they are still well above 90% for the 2018 despite 600 cycles and like new for the M1. So battery health won't be an issue. The 2018 iPad Pro is going on the path of the iPad Air 2.
