My informed sources tell me the following:

- Beta 5 may drop today
- If it doesn't drop today, it will drop some other day
- It will drop before the GM
- There may be more betas before the GM
- The point above may not be true

Thanks me later....

Well done, what would we do without people like you?

Beta's are for developers to test new functionality of iOS 8. It does not have to be stable. It's perfectly possible that 90% of all the effort that goes into stabilizing is iOS happens after the last beta.

Spoken like someone who hasn't actually tried to update against the new iOS. In this beta TableView's are beyond broken, among other things. You know, as you just said, the reason that Apple release these in the first place.

Aug 4th would be the day I would guess. But last beta before GM? Total bull. It won't launch until mid to late September, no way they will spend a month and a half going from beta 5 to GM.

Unless you work for Apple you really can't say that it is or isn't bull. We don't know what will be in any next beta or what testing they are doing themselves. So maybe this will be the final beta, maybe it won't. Maybe number four is the final.

I think people forget the release cycles from previous years.

I think people forget that Apple does what it wants and you really can't hold 'previous years' as sacrosanct.

Remember the iPhone 4s that didn't come out in June, despite how the iPhone ALWAYS came out at WWDC. Remember the iPad 4 that came out in the fall even though the iPad ALWAYS comes out in early spring. Remember how OS X Lion had no optical disk release although OS X was ALWAYS on a disk.

----------

Do we really need a biweekly article saying that next beta will be out ever other week?

You mean 'does macrumors and 9to5mac really need page hits so bad that they will harp in this issue week after week'

Yes apparently they do

For the last 3 years or so, the final beta's are out for about a month before the GM. So maybe we won't see that beta for another week still. That would put the last beta out for about a month before we see the GM in Mid September if the 16th date is true for the iPhone 6 event.

But personally, I think we will see a beta today and then another one before the GM in a week or 2.

What beta was it that allowed non-developers to install iOS 7 last year?

I think the first 2 could be installed by a non udid registered phone by upgrading. Clean installs always failed.

"Maybe number four is the final."

If iOS 8 beta 4 is the last beta, Apple is in serious trouble.

Why? Apple tests internally, too. They likely issue a lot more internal betas, a lot more frequently, than ones they release to developers. Also, keep in mind, the betas released to developers are primarily released for developers to use to develop their app updates for iOS 8, not so much to test for bugs.

The final beta issued to developers does not at all need to be flawless, as Apple will continue doing much internal testing up until the point of a GM release.

People keep saying this, but I don't think people realize how much some of these bugs inhibit developers from actually using them to develop.

Ha.. People in this thread are going to be so pissed off in about 45 min
