It's not that Gurman is right, it's that people have realized the pattern of Apple releasing a beta one month before the expiry date. I said the same thing when the beta expiry date was discovered... I just didn't write an article about it.

Here's my article: Apple will be releasing beta 6 one month before beta 5 expires.
Well, beta 5 expires on October 6th, not sure if Apple is going to hold out for a whole month for next beta update (or release it on a Saturday, which September 6 would be). So, either that particular pattern won't hold up as it often doesn't toward the end of the beta cycle, or there won't be any more betas and just a GM, or something else.

Yeah I was wondering this too. IMO this is the last beta.

It's not impossible to think Apple will go update-less for a month. It is unusual, but if Apple is viewing this as the last beta, it is very likely this will be the last beta with a Gold Master release around the announcement. However, like last year, Apple may just be doing different tests with different betas now. Maybe it will be 3 weeks until the next beta. Only Apple knows.

The last 3 years they went updateless for over a month from the last beta to the GM. iOS 7 B6 doesn't count as it was nothing more than a hot fix.

Irrelevant. Developers got their final beta with the same gap to GM just like the last several years.
Sure, but there was still another one nonetheless. So while not the same perhaps not completely irrelevant.
