I only suggested giving the IRS a call and report seeing large cash transactions ($50K) at the same time and place every day.
They do care. They tried to stop it last year, but our p***y governor (then, attorney general) threatened to sue Apple for "racist policies".
No one actually lost money they had DEPOSITED in banks, either in the S&L scandals of the 80s or the recent banking crisis. After the 1929 crash something called the FDIC was created which protects all deposits up to $100,000 per account. Investors may have lost money but no depositors.
Anyone who is "scared" to use a bank, or doesn't "trust" a bank is ignorant and/or misinformed. Even so-called "illegals" can use banks, you don't need to be a citizen to get a savings/checking account (and thereby a debit card that could be used to buy an iPad).
Something needs to be down about the scalping however, and while requiring credit card use is the easiest way there are certainly other ways. For instance, you could buy 1 with cash but buying 2 at once requires a credit/debit card. Or require some kind of in-store activation/opening/whatever if paying with cash. Something to discourage people from sending them overseas or selling them on CL.
This thread is incredibly racist. I am a white person and could be a scalper just the same as anyone else, these grey market resellers base their lives on selling these products and are just trying to earn a living for their family.

There's a way to deflate the scalping situation. The store manager can put up a sign saying that its policy is to open and inspect each ipad to ensure a quality purchasing experience for the customer, and telling consumers they can buy online from the apple website if they wish to open it themselves. This way, the :censored:s buying them can't resell them as 'new, unopened box' items.
Hard to be angry at the poor schmucks getting up at the crack of dawn to turn a buck off of this.

eBay scalping from the original iPad is actually down 65% despite higher demand and a closer global launch constraining supplies compounded by earthquake issues.
So it seems preliminary data suggests that the dumbasses that still dont have their iPad 2 (got mine after a 40 minute wait on launch day in Los Angeles so don't give me that bs) haven't figured out to stop going to the damn apple stores and start going anywhere else that sells electronics.

Here's the point. I'll concede that the majority of scalpers in the iPad2 lines were Chinese. Fine, so if you can't get your iPad2, then blame them, the Chinese scalpers ... not "Asians" as instructed by Gizmodo. Can you see the point here? A small group of people sharing a common ancestry is gobbling up the supply of iPads in the US. So the blame should be directed at all people of Asian descent????

Actually, you can't really make this leap. Sure, if the folks in HK are paying ridiculous sums of money for iPad2's, that doesn't mean you can blame them for the scalpers' actions. An analogy would be blaming American drug users from the murderous actions of Mexican drug cartels. After all, if there were no demand for drugs in the US, then the cartels wouldn't exist and would kill people.

Most banks require that you have a social security number in order to open an account. Most non-documented alien's do not have SS#'s. They may have a TIN number, but banks don't accept those. (Trust me, I know this as fact due to my day job).
In addition, many new immigrants prefer to use cash. The use of cash instead of credit cards is also widely used by people of lower income levels. It was Apple's refusal to accept cash from an African-American woman that spawned the outcry against Apple for discriminating against poor people.
People lost their trust in banks after all the previous scandels. It didn't matter that some people never lost their money. The sight of lines to withdraw money from their bank that wrapped around the block, even surpassing these iPad 2 lines was enough to cause a run on the banks. Ask the people who wanted to get their money out and couldn't, how they feel about your statement that no one "lost" money. I know quite a lot of senior citizens, immigrants, and people of lower income levels who continue to distrust banks. Do a google search and read some of the polls and studies about why there is a large segment of America that do not trust banks and prefer to use cash instead of credit.

Why is this the main question? From most accounts, the people waiting in line were getting about $50 to $100 per iPad. So the "lucky" ones were clearing $100 to $200 for waiting in line all night. That beats 8 hours of minimum wage.
