Yeah they'll have to do some serious ageing tricks.. will be interesting to see. Can't say whether I think Kutcher will do a good job or not. I'm confident that he can do more than just That 70's Show style humour, but acting as Steve Jobs... ? That's a challenge.

I think he's great when he acts "normal" but most of the the time he gets these stupid slapstick humor roles... But I guess it more than pays the bills.

I think it could work out just fine. The opinion of the public pre-release isn't very interesting though. Wouldn't be the first time people said something would be ****, and turned out to be great. I don't get why people just have to be so negative instead of trying to see the possibilities (and also trying to check their own biases instead of posing opinion as truth).

cause for most people life sucks most of the time so they are in inherently negative by proxy.:(

Ashton Kutcher is perfect and from this report, it sounds like he is giving the role the focus and effort it deserves.

Like others said, Steve Wozniak will be the bigger challenge. Jack Black aside (that made me laugh), it is hard for me to think of any actor who has not just his looks but also his charisma.

As for John Sculley, I would cast Andrew Lincoln for the part, known best as Officer Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead. He looks like someone that can be trusted and admired (as Sculley was by Jobs) but just by looking at him you can tell something more is going on under the surface.

Some good ideas for the rest of the cast. I think James Hellwig would be perfect as Bill Gates.

What's with all the hating on this guy? Sure he's a comedy guy, but everybody has to start somewhere. It seems he's taking the role very seriously, and I think we might all be in for a pleasant surprise.

See: Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting
Will Farrell in Stranger than Fiction

Steve Wozniak = Paul Giamatti ...

... whose brother played Dan Kottke in POSV.

Although I'd rather save him for the movie based on Isaacson's book.

Yeah, and Steve Jobs was just as "humble." All I can think of was how people underestimated Heath Ledger for the role as The Joker. Turned out quite a surprise. I think Ashton "might" pull it off too but nothing to bet the entire mortgage on.
Until it killed him, you mean?

Wow, I thought it was annoying when we had comments from CEOs and other business types. Hearing Ashton's thoughts about himself is really pointless.

Wirelessly posted

He may look alike... But with the roles hes played in the past not getting out of my head. How can u take him seriously? I mean "dude, wheres my car?"

People said the same thing about Tom Hanks when he was cast as a dying AIDS patient in Philadelphia. "But he's a comedian. He's the guy from Big and Bosom Buddies. How can we take him seriously?" The answer, of course, is because this is "acting". He's playing a very different role. I seem to remember it worked out prett well for Mr. Hanks. :p

Does Ashton look like a young Steve - sure.

Personally I think this is terrible casting because I don't think Ashton can act his way out of a paper bag. Extremely boring casting here.

This article reminds of a lot of things Joaquin Phoenix said and did when he was first cast to play Johnny Cash. He fully immersed himself in the role, met with people who knew Cash, even visited his home. The Internet was all upset that Joaquin was playing Cash, and many said it would be a disaster. He really surprised people, and Ashton may do the same.

Mate you are a genius. He is a pretty close ringer for Woz. And Black is just as loopy as Woz is. I think that'd work well.

As for Kutcher. Her can believe he's made for the role. Just as he believed he was made for the 2 and a half men role. I just think he's arrogant and up himself.

Tom Hanks is more than a pretty face. He's a gifted comedian and actor. He also is highly intelligent.

I don't find Ashton intelligent nor funny. The only thing he's got going for him (for me) is that he's not like-able. And Steve Jobs, while a very smart guy - wasn't incredible like-able most of the time. In that, Ashton has it in spades. Unfortunately - it's not exactly for the same reasons

Looks like it's on to me.

On a more serious note, yes, his nose is slightly smaller. These things generally happen with lookalikes though, I say he's close enough. The only issue is wether or not he can pull off the role.

no, meant his nose looks...broken?

Steve Wozniak = Paul Giamatti.

That was my first thought too, but Paul Giamatti is too old now. He's perfect to play a present day Woz, but not a 70s Woz. I still haven't thought of a good choice.

My point is more that at the time, in 1992, no one had any idea that Tom Hanks was capable of more than straight comedy. We knew he was a gifted comedian, but we didn't know he was a gifted actor. Sometimes these really oddball casting decisions really pay off.

Hulme reports that Kutcher is "pouring himself" into the role and "believes the role was meant for him".

Fine. But Having seen "big" in the theaters - I never had a moment's doubt that he was an amazing actor then. Maybe you and others had doubts. But it was VERY clear from his performance in big - what his range was. If you had said just from Bosom Buddies I might agree there was room for doubt. Further - Ashton has already done drama. And in my opinion - was dreadful.

I thought that until I saw Butterfly Effect. The plot was completely ridiculous and unbelievable, but I thought he did a decent job of making it believable.

BUT THAT'S JUST ME

Not just you. Great movie, especially with the ending from the director's cut.

Jack Black would be an awesome Woz...
But it'll probably be another JB.
Jeff Bridges.
Isn't he in every movie currently in production?
He's damn good, almost as good as his dad.

Good look alike for the ealier version of steve... I think he can pull off the way steve acted back then as he is going to get so much info and footage of him so he can practice and copy the way he was...
