No way, bad bad choice. This guy is a goofball, not that its a bad thing but just wrong to play Steve. I dont think he can pull it off.

Theres also his voice, it doesnt sound anything like Steve's. I really hope this was just a joke.

Marc-André Grondin

Marc-André Grondin would have been a far better choice :

Bad choice. Kutcher may look like Jobs from a certain perspective, but his acting absolutely tanked a top rated '2 and a Half Men' show. He's also typically type casted as a goofy, comedic type in just about everything he has done. They should have gone after Noah Wyle again, who played Jobs in the Pirates of Silicone Valley in 1999. He looks like Jobs to an extent, and did a great job with Steve's mannerisms in that particular movie.

That's what I thought till I saw the butterfly effect. You know not of what you speak

Kutcher...really? There goes any chance of this movie actually being decent. I didn't think I'd see it when I read of it's rumored release some years ago, now I know I won't. Sad thing is this buffoon will bring in the "tweenie" sales like crazy and they will call it a hit so nobody will ever know how bad it is unless they....

1) are 30 years or older and have acquired some sort of taste

2) actually see the movie

I don't believe Ashton can pull it off. He's not intense enough.

I can't stand him, but Christian Bale would be a much better choice.

Resemblance? Yes, resemblance. And a better actor and a more intense glare than Ashton. Steve was focused and determined; I think Bale could pull it off well.

There's some resemblance but even though he can act, I doubt he can pull a convincing SJ.

Steve Jobs is Syrian by blood.

Um, Steve Jobs is not 'Syrian' by blood (not fully anyways). His father was Syrian and his mother is white American, so half Syrian at best.

That said, and from what I've gathered it doesn't sound like he cared or recognized this descent at all anyways so no, I don't think we need a middle eastern actor portraying Steve Jobs who by all practical measures was a typical 'All American' boy.

Haven't seen The Butterfly Effect yet? He was serious in that one. People need to get the Punk'd/Michael Kelso image out of their head for a minute and be open-minded to this choice. I remember when people scoffed at Heath Ledger portraying The Joker. The guy from 10 Things I Hate About You. But he surprised all of us with that role and won an Oscar for it after his death. Not saying Kutcher will step up his game at that level. It is only an indie film. But like another poster mentioned, he might need a talented director and writer to push him to another level.

Please don't compare a great actor like Heath Ledger to kutcher. Ledger already received an oscar nom for Brokeback Mountain by the time he was cast as the Joker. What critically-acclaimed roles does kutcher have?

It's always interesting to hear people say someone can't act. I wonder how they define bad acting. I can't say I notice a major difference between this guy's acting and Heath Ledger's. Heath has just played some more extreme roles, so the comparison isn't very fair. I definitely don't think Ashton's acting is bad, but I would like some youtube links or something of scene's that people feel really showcases his horrible acting skills.

I really like his personality and like him as an actor. He is pleasant, calm, understanding, generous and polite.

April fools day ?

Reading up on Ashton Kutcher it seems like he is much more like his wild character in That 70's Show than an cunning businessman like Steve Jobs.

Besides his skills as an actor seems limited to light comedies. But who knows, maby Jobs will be a goofball comedy. Then I guess Kutcher is right for the Job(s):D

pretty cool i think.

Ashton kutcher also dabbles w/ startups so it would be nice to have a guy like him playing someone like steve jobs.

Of course everyone has their own opinion of ashton kutcher.

And where is "white american" from, exactly? LOL

I know Ashton Kutcher is no Marlon Brando, but this isn't exactly the world's most difficult acting job. I'm sure he'll do fine, even if he's not winning any Oscars. If he's terrible, no harm lost.

I still remember the anger that erupted when it was announced that...

Michael Keaton was playing Batman
Heath Ledger was playing The Joker
Joaquin Phoenix was playing Johnny Cash
Elijah Wood was playing Frodo
Daniel Craig was playing James Bond
Daniel Day Lewis was playing an indian in Last of the Mohicans
Tom Hanks was playing a dying AIDS patient in Philadelphia
Mark Wahlberg was... acting in anything in the mid 90s.

So maybe Ashton will bomb, but I'll withhold my judgment until I see him on screen. For one thing, they look very similar. Second, he's playing young hippy Steve Jobs. It feels like a good fit. I'm looking forward to the trailer.

Please don't compare "great actor" to award-winning actor. They're not the same thing. Oscar does not a great actor make. And until the trailer for Dark Knight came out, most people still thought Heath Ledger was a joke. (Much of the target audience for a movie like The Dark Knight doesn't watch movies like Brokeback Mountain.)

No, Ashton hasn't had any amazing critically acclaimed performances, but who cares? Movie critics are the most useless people on the planet, and you shouldn't care what they have to say.

why does it have to be a known actor?

It helps them secure financing. One thing studios and indy films have in common is that the financial backers feel a lot more comfortable when a famous name is attached to the project. For better or worse, casting known actors has proven time and time again to increase box office revenue. Artistically it's not always the best choice, but the film industry is a business. Famous names increase interest and marketability. For example, look at us all talking about this movie. :p

they might look alike, but kutcher is one of the worst actors I've ever seen. Watch any non-comedy movie he has been in (butterfly effect, for example) and you can see that he is completely limited to comedic roles (e.g. that 70s show, dude wheres my car, etc.)

He always has that Michael Kelso goofy look on his face, even when he is trying to be dead serious.

The guy definitely got to where he is for his looks, not his talent.

I thought Noah Wiley did a great job in Pirates of Silicon Valley.
