Consumer Reports just lost its credibility...

Consumer Reports lost their credibility when they went on record, publicly supporting the Obama Health Care Scam around Feb-March 2010.

How a consumer advocate group could blatantly support something that this nation can not afford was beyond many many subscribers, who subsequently dropped their subs. I am one of them.

And no, this isnt off-topic. Consumer Reports just did it again: they supported a failed product. For now, I am sticking with my iPhone 3G at 3.1.3 (backed down from the iOS4 failure that it was). I guess every company will eventually have its "Vista".

So they "can't recommend" it, but it's "the best". Therefore, they can't recommend anything. I think I recommend you ignore Consumer Reports on this matter.

Hey if you don't like it here, there is always ZDNet...

That's the usual moronic argument about criticism, by virtue of what you are saying no one should ever criticise because there is always an alternative, which of course it's an untenable position.

Why is universal health care a scam when Europe has a long successful history of it? You seem clever enough to not be fanatical.

The iPhone is GREAT, aside from the "phone part"...

Actually, the iPhone beats the Droid Incredible and EVO in voice quality, ties them in "phoning" and destroys them in battery life (per the Consumer Reports scorecard).

Seems the iPhone is a better phone after all - if you're willing to put it in a case or slightly adjust your grip on the thing. Seems like a small if to me, but obviously a much bigger one to many of the posters here.

Wouldn't we all love a BMW M3 that got the MPG of a VW TDI and cost the same as a Honda Civic? Of course we would.

Life is, as always, about compromises. Apple unintentionally proved this sad fact with the current antenna issue.

Don't worry, Apple will fix the problem (eventually), make the iPhone the clear must-have device bar-none (no qualifiers necessary) yet again, and the haters can go back to griping about shattered glass screens after 3 drops or missing SD card slots. :p

I'd like to believe the actual iPhone users who comment on sites like this, over some dorks testing in a specific lab environment. I see a lot of "I have no problems" and just as many "Mine drops calls all the time" posts. So, IDK.

FWIW it's all the same 4 people saying that here.

Again, I didn't say it's proven, I said it's backed up by evidence. The other side isn't. There is 0 evidence of iPhone 4s without the issue.

One side with evidence outweights the side without. If they have iPhone 4s without the issue, why refuse to post evidence ?

No one is calling them liars, people are just saying they don't understand the issue at hand, and their phone has it, they are just in a strong signal area and can't see it.

We're going around in circles. Look it's easy, just copy paste this :

"Sorry, I was wrong to assume anecdotes were as believable as claims backed up by evidence. I will be more careful to apply critical thinking next time I post things

I apologize to Arn and everyone who tried to show me the error of my way. Thank you for your patience, I now fully understand the difference between an anecdote and evidence backed claims".

Seriously, too easily swayed ? One side with strong evidence, reports, tests, backed up by Apple statements, by verifiable, reproduceable results and credible agencies

vs

"Hey, mine doesn't have the issue. My word is as good as any - Anonymous".

And I'm too easily swayed ?

I am seriously dismayed by your posts on this subject. To see someone refuse the weight of evidence like that is baffling. All for the sake of not hinting that some people might have a misunderstanding of the issue (not saying they are liars or dumb, just misunderstanding what they are commenting on).

well. all i know is i actually own and use an iPhone 4 daily, which i'm assuming you don't, and are just basing all of your (massively overused term) evidence on articles you're reading on the internet, and in the Greater Boston region, the phone works perfectly, as a phone, under normal use. Sure, when I bury my phone in my hand like a nerd on YouTube trying to prove a point, my phone loses some signal, but when I hold my phone like a normal person holds a phone, it has the best signal of any phone i've ever owned. who gives a **** about evidence. i'm holding the g*dd*mn phone in my hands and it's fine.

My name is hlfway2anywhere and gosh darn it, I'm SERIOUS as heck!!

Evidence shmevidence!

Wow.... you mean to tell me that aside from the MOST IMPORTANT PART OF A PHONE the iPhone 4 is the best smartphone out there? I don't think this says much!

Mine works great, never had an issue. If it isn't working how you want it to stop your bitching and take it back, problem solved.

at least someone understands :p sorry. that dude is just pissing me off. he loves the word evidence.

This place is crazy. It's like MacDailyNews, except without the Horatio-like commentary from the site creator.

I have a feeling Arn is using a bunch of fake accounts to troll the boards in order to increase traffic and ad views. How else can it be explained???

at least the writers on this site can handle criticism a little better than MDN. MDN are total d!ck heads. if you criticize their takes, they'll just delete your posts and ban you.

i just can't comprehend how someone who doesn't even own an iPhone 4 can feel so passionately about it, while someone like me is holding one in my hand... using it constantly, and loving it. The problem just seems so overly blown out of proportion to me.

USA vs UK?

I tried to replicate this loads of times
in the UK to no avail. I arrive on Miami this week, the phone connects to At&T and says I have full signal. I hold the phone in the corner and I see the bars go!

So, is it an AT&T/iPhone issue rather than just an iPhone issue?

My phone did NOT do this on UK on O2

macrumors, you forgot the biggest NEWS story coming out of the CR article.

ITS NOT RECOMMENDED

This is the best phone on the market and I wouldn't trade it for anything else at all.

This reception issue is all that people talk about anymore and it is ridiculous. If this were any phone other than the iPhone 4, it would have been over with by now, but because Apple is the go to company for smartphone breakthroughs, everyone is nitpicking the s*** out of this. Get a case! The phone is made out of glass after all!

Bottom line:

If you want the best smartphone on the planet and are willing (and able) to slightly adjust the way you hold it (or wrap it in a case): get the iPhone.

If you want an inferior phone that lets you hold it almost any way you want: get the Droid Incredible or EVO (don't forget the extra battery).

if you want a painfully biased opinion from an apple fanboy, listen to LagunaSol

One thing that is probably not helping is the new logic the iPhone 4 uses. I am talking about the feature of finding the less congested radio tower regardless of strength. If this feature is putting you on a weaker connection followed by accidentally touching the seam you are more probable to drop the call rather than being connected to a stronger radio tower while covering the seam.

You guys follow me?

ok, heard you... go get a droid.

now, excuse me if you will, I have go get in line to get my iphone4 and hope that the apple store has some left, or may be some guys return theirs and I can have mine finally...

I do not recommend windows, and yet 98% of the planet goes ahead and buys the freaking crapOS... go figure.

Thanks Einstein. Don't think I ever heard that one mentioned before.

What are your thoughts on the probability of Lindey Lohan getting drunk this weekend?

what does windows have anything to do with the topic we are discussing?

so YOU don't recommend windows, but are wondering why '98%' of the planet buys it. so by your logic, if its NOT recommended by you, the planet should NOT go ahead and buy windows... go figure.

i'm actually waiting on them to FIX the issue, instead of Apple giving tepid half-a$$ed responses like, 'well whaddaya know, we were reporting the signal wrong for the past 4 years!'

i trust Consumer Report over Apple. sorry.
