Why are you talking about those people though? You’re not one of those people and I doubt anybody here cares what those people want to spend their money on. You started the thread about an iPhone, something we all own and can relate to. When you finish school and get a good job I’m sure you’ll forget about building fake personas to attract girls. A lot of us are married, have children, decent jobs and couldn’t give a toss whether someone is impressed by our iPhones or not. Time to grow up.

How would you know?

Regardless, I’m glad you finally saw my point and I’m glad you agree with me.

Pro means you’re a boss.

Like if I got the pro iPhone, my pics are gonna be the best in the game, my connection is gonna be the fastest, like no matter what I do, I’m gonna be on it. You’ve got Samsung boys using glitchy software, but if you’re a pro you’re on another level. You’re not gonna see bugs. You drop it, you know it’s not gonna break because it’s reinforced. Pros don’t have time to fix it. A pro user might be your company executive- someone with a position who doesn’t have time for slower model phones.

Basically things like that.

Its kinda like if you a dude with a MacBook Pro but it’s the 13”, you can’t assume he’s a boss. He might be in school still trying to get his degree then work his way up. But if you see a dude with a 16”, he’s probably business.

Like back in the day everybody in college had a 13”. It was no big deal. But more recently I meet people who are business and I see 15” everywhere in space grey. That’s the go to for those who got real things to do out there putting in work.

You got me convinced, you got any of that “Pro”? I do anything

Byeveryone, have you ever thought people that are loaded may not just be interested in technology so don’t bother to update regular, or their phone is just a annoying work tool they have to use to make their $$ .

You seem to make assumptions on others here so that’s an ironic question.

How have I agreed with you? I haven’t given any indication of that at all.

Let me ask you this question:

Hypothetically, if the iPhone 11 Pro Max was almost 0.01% of someone’s net worth and they brought in only $27,000 per month in their WORST months doing business, why would they think twice about getting the latest and greatest iPhone?

Sure the 70 year old senior citizen who’s amassed a cool 2 million working as a doctor his whole life living in Montana on a ranch might be on an iPhone 5 and perfectly merry but I’m talking about young rich people. People in their 20s and 30s who’ve made 7 figures plus and actually live out all their dreams and fantasies and do it as big as they can.

I’ve already answered this more than once. Not everybody is into phones and places as much emphasis on them as someone like you. There’s plenty of people on this forum who can easily afford the latest and greatest but are happy with an XR or 11.

Most people aren’t superficial and need everything they buy to show off their worth either. There’s nothing wrong with the 11 Pro of course, but not everybody wants it and you need to realise that. When you’re older you’ll realise priorities change too.

Not sure. That’s for Apple to tell us, since they’re the ones claiming it’s pro.

Not sure. Was hoping Apple would clarify since they’re the ones calling it pro.
They claim it’s pro for camera as they already stated...they don’t need to say anything...

Right but from a financial perspective would they need to think twice?

There are plenty ”rich” people who are very careful of what they spend their money on. Just because someone has the cash doesn’t mean they’ll buy the latest gadgets. What bizarre logic to think otherwise.

I’m not talking about “Rich” people who earn 100k a year and have great credit and live off debt.

Do you think a rich person as described below need to be careful about a thousand dollar iPhone?

Fair enough. This is what I was asking.

I would agree with Apple that the camera is “Pro” meaning the photos are professional level to my eye. I think it could replace a professional camera IMO

This thread is a train wreck, but earlier the OP mentioned rich people/executives using 15" MBPs rather than 13".

I know plenty of die-hard Mac users who opt for a high end iMac or such for their office computer, but pick the 13" pro or even an Air for their laptop. Generally these are people who travel a lot and value the size/weight/overall portability of the smaller computers vs a larger 15"(or now 16"). If your laptop is your only computer, a larger one may make more sense for you, but not necessarily.

I'm not the kind of high roller the OP pretends to be, but I actually take a 3 computer approach. I have a 12 core Mac Pro(5,1) at home for the "heavy lifting", a 15" "classic unibody" that I use at work(and actually most of the time at home) since I need to be somewhat mobile at times away from my desk but value things like tons of on-board storage and no need for dongles to get the ports I need most often, and then a 13" Retina(non-TB) for travel for its size, weight, and insane(to me) battery life.

Your eyes aren't very professional then. As nice as this camera is ... it doesn't remotely compare to a nice DSLR.

Exactly. When I want to grab a couple of quick shots of something interesting I see when out-and-about, I use my iPhone 11 Pro. When I want to do something more considered, something which may take a little forethought and planning, I use my Sony A7R IV and one of my interchangeable lenses. Oh, and although I am not a professional photographer, I chose and purchased this particular gear because it was what I wanted to use in shooting the kinds of images I most enjoy photographing.

My iPhone 11 Pro I chose because I have been using iPhones since the very first one and because I liked the idea of the "third eye," the additional camera lens. I have never been under any illusion that shooting anything with this iPhone is in any way making me a "professional" or the results "professional." Nor does one need to be to choose and purchase this or any other iPhone. All that said, one can get some pretty decent results with an iPhone, especially if one knows what one is doing with light and composition.

How is that camera? I’ve been planning to get that one.

I LOVE it! :) It is comfortable to handle (I have smallish hands) and it is responsive, does what I want and the resolution is wonderful. Lots of opportunity for customization and configuring the camera to one's specific shooting style and needs. I shoot uncompressed RAW in order to get the full benefit of what the camera can do, and my 2018 MBP with i9, 32 GB RAM and 20 VESA handles the files with no problem. Then again so far I haven't yet had an all-day shooting session coming home with several filled memory cards......

I've got just three lenses right now, with plans to add one or two more later. The 135mm f/1.8 GM is fabulous and captures amazing detail, with wonderful bokeh. The 90mm f/2.8 macro is one of the reasons I wanted this camera in the first place and again it is stellar, really pleasing results. The 50mm f/2.8 macro I bought as a lens to use when for whatever reason the 90mm is deemed too long and it has been a very good lens as well. Eventually I'll get a 24-105mm as well, for all-around general walk-around types of shooting, and am also lusting after a 200-600mm. I live on a small lake and there is plenty of wildlife to shoot so that I'd get good use from that long lens. Since it is wintertime and our weather has not always been cooperative I haven't really had much opportunity to put each of my current lenses through their full paces yet, and am already looking forward to spring!

I have spoken.

It's a good camera, but to call it "pro" in the context of professional makes no sense. Professional photographers won't be using a phone camera. They rely on DSLRs which enable precise artistic control over the photo, and high-quality lenses that can easily cost more than the camera.

To call it "pro" in the context of high-end makes more sense. For the specific class of cameras it's in (consumer smartphone cameras), it's high-end.

This. Apple do seem to have a habit of messing up their product names.

The Mac Pro is undoubtedly a pro machine in its product category. Ditto the 16 inch MacBook Pro and the iMac Pro.

The pricing and features gap between devices that regular consumers would buy, is pretty wide in the case of these machines - especially in the case of the Mac Pro, where absolutely no one except a pro who needs that amount of power should even consider buying one.

Could you say that the AirPod Pros are actually earbuds that pros would use in their work? No chance.

And again, as with the reply above, as a video or still camera, the one on the iPhone 11 Pro is absolutely not something that a pro would use to get the best results for their work - whereas you could absolutely say that with the Mac Pro.

I’d hope that with the redesign coming for the iPhone next year that Apple stops with the goofy names that they use. The use of the word ‘pro’ should literally denote products that are meant for high end professional use IMHO.

It feels like all of their product lines are now being (gradually) rationalised and cleaned up - let’s hope that their naming scheme is too

Depends if they are frivolous or not. Many people can afford things but make calculated purchases depending on what they want or see the benefit of. It’s not a hard concept, it really isn’t.

So you think a person who has hypothetically more than 8 million bucks and a decent income needs to be “frivolous” over buying a new iPhone?

I think you’ve got a very immature outlook to be honest and you’ve got a thread full of people taking the mick out of you, yet still you continue to talk drivel about hypothetical millionaires that nobody cares about. I really have no idea what point you are trying to make and I’ve lost interest in all honesty. This is a troll thread and has been a car crash from post number one.

I bought a new electric toothbrush yesterday. It was an Braun Oral B “Pro” model. Impressive, huh?

Not really. In the toothbrush world “Pro” is mid-range. “Genius” is high-end. Gah!

Thankfully I didn’t know that yesterday or I’d have been sooooo humiliated at the checkout. 😋

Ok well for me I’m all for one those sony camera it’s just that I don’t think I’ll be able to carry around or keep it handy.

Like with my iPhone 11 Pro Max it’s always with me so no issues
