The extra ram isn't going to change the overall performance that much imo. Looks to me like it is primarily there to support the live photos feature

It will depend almost entirely on the use case. For the "tab refreshers" out there it will be a huge boost. To the average user it may not be noticeable at all.
 
Tab refreshing is the most annoying thing about my iPad mini 2

To be filling in a form then require info from another different tab and then return and the page refreshes and clears....SO annoying

I hope with the 2GB Ram this improves the pages reloading dramatically
 
The extra gig helps on the air 2, don't know why it wouldn't help here. I'm quite honestly more excited about the 4GB for the iPad pro.
 
I'm very happy about this. When I'm planning a family trip, for example, with 2 GB I will be able to have the web pages for several hotels, the ticketing app for my airline, and Google Maps all available through multitasking without app reloads every time I switch. With all that headroom, the OS won't be paging memory nearly as much, therefore less lag, stutter, and crashing. This matters to me, a lot.
