Dude we have three iPhones on my plan...one owned by a pubescent teenage girl. My data usage last month was 8gb. I couldn't imagine not having unlimited.
aren't data plans on family accounts separate from each other?

Huh. I was under the impression that GPS wasn't a cellular service. Am I wrong? All it's doing is grabbing the coordinates from the freely available gps satellites, right?
Anyway, you should have seen the location icon pop up if it was a gps issue.. What they really need is a data indicator. It sounds like it's just way too easy to request data without realizing it.
It would also be neat if the iPhone could track each app's data usage. There's no reason we should be have to commit to capped data blindly.
How bad were the lines? During opening weekend, I heard the wait time just to get in was around 7 hours.
I'm going in July. Can't wait!
Not possible. Tagging pics with your location uses the GPS but it doesn't use any data. Try this: in network settings turn off cellular data and then take a pic. It will still be tagged with its location.
I don't get why someone would change their data plan and the complain about almost using up all of the data.![]()
The more important question is, where are these pics!?
i love unlimited data on giffgaff, did i mention you get the unlimited data + unlimited texts + 100mins for only £10 month

you....you...started a thread...to tell us..that you didnt exceed your data limit????? what ????
How sensational. The title drew me in, the story in further, and then I was, in fact, horrified.
Testing my iP4 yesterday on a drive to the Airport, I put on MR spy. 45 min there only. Checked it this morning, used 189mb down, and 34 mb up in <24 hours.
Thank God for the unlimited, even though I don't really use that much.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS it does.
Using Assisted GPS doesn't mean it uses data. The position of cell towers help is find its location but it doesn't use any data. If you turn off data on your phone photos will still be tagged with location.
So you think the phone has an internal database of every cell tower location in the US?

OP... Next time I would suggest that you go into you settings and turn off all cellular data while you are taking your pictures for the day. That will force the phone to rely on only GPS and should still give you geotaging. It may not be as accurate (your more likely to lose satellite lock than cell service) but it won't run your data up either![]()

AGPS = GPS + cell towers
I'm still waiting for the vampire bunnies.
Did you even try what I say? Go to Network Settings, turn Cellular Data Off and take a pic. It will still be tagged with location.
Assisted GPS uses Cell Towers to help it find its location, that's not the same as using data.
From your link: "Accurate, surveyed coordinates for the cell site towers allow better knowledge of local ionospheric conditions and other conditions affecting the GPS signal than the GPS receiver alone, enabling more precise calculation of position."
You can do two things:
1) get notifications from AT&T via text when your at 60, 90 , 100% usage
.
My god. What do you DO during that time to rack up so much data usage?!
Had MR spy going. Did a lot of speed testing on 3G, as we were having problems. Tons of email, Safari etc. I turned off wifi yesterday to do additional testing, so yeah I guess it adds up quickly.
I notice (since I run exchange as well) when you open contacts, it syncs a lot as well, even the calendar- so I think there is a lot of transmission going on more in iOS4 vs 3.
No, I did not do anything other than the above. Try it for a day, and see what you use.
Erm... no, it knows which cell tower it's connected to and that gives it its location. Some networks even have a cell phone tracking service that uses solely cell towers for localization.
