If you think that is bad do not ever travel abroad

I would never buy an I4 and limit it to 200MB of data a month, you could go through that in an hour if you knew what you were doing. However, ATT will give you the privilege of being charged an additional 200 dollars a month to give you 200MB abroad per month, which is in additional to your regular plan. Its such an awful deal. I think more people need to complain to ATT about this. You can buy a new I4 16 gig for 200!

$199.99/month: 200 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 200 MB of usage within more than 90 countries

I only use 200-400 MB, but chose to keep my $30 data plan because it is unlimited even though I can save $5 by going to the 2GB plan, just doesn't make sense especially if I decide to tether at any point during my contract.

Tethering is not available to those on the unlimited plan. You will have to take the 2G plan if you decide to tether and then there's no turning back to unlimited.

I can use 500MB in an hour. There are lots of video on the internet that you can stream to your phone. A one hour show can be 500MB.

200MB for a whole month works if you don't use your phone as a smartphone.

So just to make sure I get this right..

If I turn the Cellular Data off and I'm in a wi-fi area, my house, barnes & noble or any place that has wi-fi I'm good. No data usage from my plan is being used.

Now when I'm somewhere where wi-fi is not available then I turn the data on and thats when my data plan starts being used

Is that how it works? Sorry I'm new to AT&T, I left t-mobile and didn't have internet or anything with my blackberry. Now that I can do all of that and so much more on the iphone I just wanna make sure.

How bad were the lines? During opening weekend, I heard the wait time just to get in was around 7 hours.

I'm going in July. Can't wait!

I went there last weekend also. If you get there when it first opens, there'll be a line just to get into the Harry Potter part of the park - and they make you walk through the whole park to get to the Harry Potter part - once you get in then you'll wait in line for the Forbidden Journey ride that is very cool :D The line gets long so don't stop to look at stuff until after you've done the ride. Got some nice pics with the iPhone 4 and the battery rocked over the weekend. Be sure to bring a ziplock bag with you to put your phone in if you do the Jurassic Park ride and the Popeye ride - you will get soaked.

Have fun when you go!

i'm wondering about the same thing?

I'm really hopping ATT switches around and does a 500- 5GB I think 2Gigs will be more than enough but i think with alot more multi tasking apps i can easly see people forgeting to leave apps in the backround and use data something like twitter etc.

Like what exactly? I have the iPhone 4 and am using the 200MB data plan and do not even reach 100 MB a month.. I'd like to get my money's worth...

Maybe it's just because I'm usually using a computer for internet needs as opposed to my phone...

You do not have to turn off your cellular data to take advantage of a WiFi hotspot anywhere. If you can connect to wifi no cellular data will be used. Just make sure you see the wifi symbol on the top left of your phone before you go data crazy.

Think 2gb is enough? Wait till FaceTime goes 3G.

Yes this should be interesting.

SIDENOTE:
I called AT&T today and switched to the 2G plan just so I don't have to contain my data usage as much as before. But at the rate that I am now using data on my iPhone 4 I have a bad feeling the 2GB might not be enough. Hopefully I'm wrong and 2GB will be more than enough. We'll see by the end of the month what I rack up.

With my FAN the 2GB plan comes out to $18.75 and the 200MB isn't discounted so it's $15 of course it was a no brainer which to choose.

Seeing this thread made me paranoid enough to check my data plan after the whole AT$T server melt down happened. My data plan was still unlimited but for some reason, my wife's was set at the 2GB one. I chatted with an AT$T rep and she said that my wife's phone was a new line and not eligible for the unlimited plan. Only problem with that statement is that my wife's account is nearly 7 years old. In the constant melt down of the servers, her upgrade had been put through as a new line and her old line was simply deleted. Friends, be sure to check your AT$T bill as they will screw you over this. Happy ending for me though as they agreed to put the unlimited back on.

SETTING UP MESSAGE ALERTS for DATA USAGE

A few people said you could set up your acct so that you get an alert when your data usage hits certain points. I have looked all over the site and can not find this.

Help?

You don't really need to turn Cellular Data off when you're on WiFi, when you're on Wifi the iPhone will ALWAYS choose it over Cellular Data.

your first fail was going to "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter last weekend" and your second fail was taking pictures of it..

Should I be able to send an mms while connected to wi-fi with cellular data turned off?
