For those of you who had the hacked carrier file, like me, which carrier file will you use? The official or Hacked?

I'm thinking of keeping the hacked one so I can tether........unless the official one enables tethering as well?

If you want to upgrade your carrier file without running 3.1 just do this:

1. download the ipcc file from the post earlier in the thread

2. If on a Mac type this in terminal while iTunes is closed:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

3. Open iTunes and attach your phone.

4. Decline the upgrade to 3.1 prompt.

5. "Option" click the Update button and select the ipcc file that you previously downloaded.

6. It will only take a second to apply the file. Once it's complete disconnect your iPhone and reboot your phone.

7. enjoy!

I just tested this process on my phone and it worked flawlessly.

According to the apple website, 3.1 is required.

Could there be some unforeseen complications from not updating the device's OS?

Well, it would have been nice if the device didnt lie to begin with.

Hey, iphones had to get into enterprise quickly though, right?

Yep. Kind of sad they didn't just have the encryption there to begin with. :/

No warranty expressed or implied. It worked fine for me, but I can't guarantee that there will not be any long term issues associated with this change.

working fine?

SEEMS to be working fine for me. I'm on 3G phone and can send and receive still pic mms...

strangely, my brother sent me a still MMS and a video MMS from his 3gS before i updated my phone, and those messages seem lost in the ether: they neither arrived in an unviewable fashion before i updated, nor have they shown up since i updated. anyone else have that experience? fwiw he's in hawaii today...i wonder if the rollout reached there first, or is the evidence that it was not rolled out in stages but just released for all of us at the same time?

i just sent one to someone on verizon. lets see how long it takes. it might take longer since its not at&t to at&t. well im hoping its only cause of the network being used alot now with everyone MMSing, but also im wondering if it would always take longer going to a diff carrier....

update: i sent my first mms and i got the little red exclamation point to send again. and yes i have restarted.

Are you SURE?!?! When many of us installed 3.1 we were certain tethering was still working too, because there was the tethering option in network settings. BUT... the minute we actually TRIED to connect to a computer and USE tethering, the tethering option disappeared from the network settings and hasn't returned (not even with this new 5.5 carrier settings update).

Just because you have the tethering option shown, and you can turn it on and off, doesn't mean it will actually work!

i tried it. i thought the same thing that you experienced might happen again, but i just tethered right quick before i posted that to make sure it was still working at it is.

Anyone with the B2B Txt Msg 750 for $7.49 have MMS working? Mine is still not sending through.

I have that plan too and updated the carrier settings, and I'm still getting the old view my message link when I receive an MMS.

I guess that plan doesn't support MMS.

MMS, finally.

Now the iPhone is on equal footing with the other smartphones (at least if you own a 3G/3GS).

to all the naysayers that said MMS was still born and not needed, Ha! Long time coming from both Apple and AT&T, shame on both.

Maybe its the area im in, who knows.. I've updated the carrier settings, rebooted.. and that all works, but every mms i attempt to send out fails....
this is with full 3g singal... any ideas?

I have the same issue, I live in the suburbs of Chicago.
