Once again . . .

I have a 3G and an MS Exchange account for work email.

So, I guess I get to either have MMS and no work email, or work email and no MMS.

3.1 doesn't break exchange inherently. Our exchange server supports hundreds of iphone connections with no problems. We all use 3.1.

I'm on a business account and my iphone nor my wife's iphone shows a camera after we update the carrier settings and restart our phones. I was going to restore until I read your post, so now I'll just contact att instead and see if they need to do anything on their end. Hopefully it will all work out! Thanks

If the camera iPhone is not showing, it's a iPhone software issue; AT&T will not be able to help you.

Where AT&T could help is if the icon is showing, but you get the red "!" when you try to send messages.

Possible solution: does the MMS On/Off switch show up in Settings > Messages? If yes, it it turned on?

If that is not there, you probably did not apply the carrier settings update correctly. Check Settings > General > About. What is the version number after "AT&T" in the "Carrier" field?

Folks after you install the carrier file reboot your phone.

Then shut off WIFI and 3G.

Send and MMS on Edge.

Then turn on 3G.

Send MMS

This worked for me a couple of weeks ago with carrier 5.1

So heres my story...

I upgraded from an iPhone 2g to an iPhone 3GS when the 3GS came out, I had an issue with my phone and sent it back to get a new one and during this time reactivated my 2g. On my ATT bill I paid the first month at my new iPhone 3gs rate, but from then on my billing went back to what it was with my old iPhone(not complaining). Basically what it comes down to is i would love to be able to use MMS, but I do not want to increases my bill just for MMS. I've tried sending the messages on 3g, edge, and wifi and just get the red !. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

I did the carrier settings hack on a 3G iPhone running 3.0.

I can send and receive MMS to other iPhones, but when I send MMS to my parent's Nokia and Samsung phones, they're phones say it can't open the multimedia file. What's going on here???

Carrier file says 5.5, I'm on 3.1 FW, I tried using edge, 3G, rebooted the phone, restarted the phone, restarted the network settings, called at&t 5x.... I'm out of ideas..... Anyone?

All you have to do is dl the ippc file found somewhere within this thread and then go through the motions of option left click to import, find where you save the file and add it, then reboot. The full directions are on page 11 of this thread and the ippc file is a few pages back.I hope this helps

Updated and installed MMS yesterday on my 3G non-JB 3.1 phone with no problem. Yesterday I noticed a slight slowdown with some MMS's (~30 secs.), but everything is going in <10 secs today.

The biggest surprise to me is how useful I am finding MMS. I really wanted it because a few people still send me pictures by MMS dealing with those pictures is famously horrible. Sending pix to them is less of an issue, as I can use the e-mail workaround for non-iPhones. (This would be an issue if I didn't know what carrier they had, of course.) However, I find that I'm also using MMSs for people with iPhones...just as it's often easier to text than to e-mail, it's often easier to MMS a picture than to e-mail one.

Which I suppose makes sense, but I had forgotten how convenient MMS can be.

Shhh... you found the loophole that allows you to use a 3G/3GS on an original iPhone Data + Text plan. I'm in the same situation.

AT&T will not enable MMS on the original iPhone Data + Text plan, so unless you want to switch over to a new 3G/3GS plan and pay more per month, you'll have to live without MMS.

Now quit talking about Fight Club.

Nope. iMacoo7, that's not going to work for those of us who have a 3G/3GS on an original iPhone Data + Text plan. Thanks for trying.

I was using my 3GS on a 2G data plan as well since the 3GS came out. I was thinking it wasn't going to be worth it to pay $15 more a month just to send MMS. Yesterday came and the MMS update was released. I called AT&T and told them I was using my 3G on the 2G plan all these months and now wanted to get the 3G plan so I could send MMS.

She changed it, asked me if I paid full price for my 3G, I said yes. She changed my plan, sent me a test MMS and I also upgraded to unlimited SMS. Not regretting it one bit. It's been fun having MMS and my friends are having alot of fun with it too. Must have sent over a 100 yesterday.

Oh and my upgrade eligibility date didn't change since I paid "full" price for the iPhone. :D

..just as it's often easier to text than to e-mail, it's often easier to MMS a picture than to e-mail one....

does an MMS photo arrive at the same resolution as an emailed photo?

UPDATE: Maybe i can answer this one myself. I did a test. I MMSd myself a photo, then emailed it from my phone to myself and opened it on my laptop. I emailed a second pic from my iphone w/o involving SMS to myself and opened it on the laptop. Lastly, using my iPhone i emailed myself a picture from my photo library, one taken by a higher-res camera and sync'd to the phone, and opened it on the laptop.

All three were received on my laptop at the same approximate resolution (600x800 minus a few pixels in one dimension on the photo from the library, which I had cropped).

Conclusion: Seems to me you can get a person a photo at the same res either by emailing it or by MMSg it. Does anyone see any flaw in that logic? Or maybe the rest of you knew that all along! :)

so my mms was working fine yesterday after i updated to carrier 5.5 thru itunes, all legit 3.1 and no funky hacks.... last night while i was up in charlotte i love my ability to MMS out of no where about 10 minutes before i got the official "your account is able to mms now" now text. i cant seem to force it to work now... what was odd was it worked fine with 5.2 and 5.5 no problem then all of a sudden stopped working, i cant even send to myself anymore when i had successfully sent to Verizon phones as well as AT&T

my mms isnt working, called att and they said it was a network issue in my area (dallas/ft. worth) but they said it would be fixed by 8:30pm, it is now 1:30 on saturday and it is still not working.....dont know if that helps anybody or explains anything, but that is my experience....

It seems like it's being very spotty during the day. Last night I had no trouble sending and receiving MMS but today (just like yesterday afternoon) it's stuck on 90% and won't go. I guess they're still working on it...

I downloaded the carrier settings update and I have checked that mms is on. I've tried edge, rebooting and all the other suggestions in this thread. When I send a mms I get the red !. When I recieve a mms i still get the message from att telling me to viewmymessage(dot)com. Any ideas?

Send MMS

This worked for me a couple of weeks ago with carrier 5.1

I can confirm that this method worked. I was going to post about this but I guess ZipZap covered it first.

Also, when you turn off 3G and your phone still said 3G, simply restart the phone and it should be on Edge on the top. Then send a MMS with edge. Once it went through, go to the preferences and turn on 3G. Send a mms again and it should work.

still no dice in SF

Updated my carrier settings to 5.5 yesterday, reset my iphone & saw the new camera icon. Been trying to send MMS for the past 24 hours, but it always ends with the red icon of mms death. Have hard reset my phone (several times), reset my network settings, used the 'settings' screen to reset all settings, tried the edge/send mms/switch to 3G trick that people here have mentioned, but still all attempts to send an MMS end with the progress bar stuck at 90%, followed by the red icon of mms death.

Starting to get a little irate about this all.

Anybody else have any tricks up their sleeves, or should I just chalk this up to inferior AT&T network infrastructure in San Francisco?

:/

Mine did the same thing, it took about 3 tries and I don't know if the reciprocate even received it. It's just the network...keep trying.
I have no problems with receiving them, its getting them out.
