I’m more excited for the Qualcomm modem than 5G tbh
I wish we knew from in depth testing if the Qualcomm modem would help with areas of weaker signals. Our neighborhood has one to two bar service for all the major parties and I don’t feel that 5G will be put here at all.

I’m so glad I left ATT. Was stuck with them because of grandfathered unltd data from iPhone 3GS. Now I’m paying $30 less for 2 iPhone lines on T-Mobile. With the per line savings I can buy a new midrange iPhone every year. 😂

Also, who even is this guy? McElfresh? Never heard of him.

I was thinking about the new iPad Air and how they could add value to an iPad Air. I think 5G support will be one of those differentiating factors. And maybe two USB-C ports.

Sadly, the "Air" name seems to be pure marketing now, and not representative of the device's design like the MacBook Air is. I do like the flat edges and expect we will see the iPhone 12 models sharing that same design. Glad to see Apple waking up to the sensibility of that great design.

I have no care for 5G. Just give us more stable 4G

Stable in what sense? LTE here in Canada is super stable, but I've heard reports of over-congestion in large US cities causing a poor experience. If that's what you experience, it's not the device at fault, but the cellular networks.

I hate the year of 2020. Everything is messed up. Hoping iPhones gets released soon. It's so strange not having to worry about or tracking the iPhone in the month of September.

Considering how the CoV crisis messed up 2020, and it's still Sept., getting a new iWatch or iPhone is on the bottom of the list of worries. Worrying about a new Apple gadget is considered a first world (American) problem.

People should consider themselves lucky to have a job and good health!

Come on now, we have to realize that 749 is already huge money for a phone. This whole 1000-1500 dollars phone is the new normal was just an 80s esque crazy instagram fueled moment.

Phone prices popped 50% out of nowhere back in 2017. That's the story. Economic boom? Status symbol? Whatever.

Tech is supposed to commoditize as time passes. This is no tech dynamics, this is luxury/apparel.

Every iPhone launch has been a nonevent the past few years. Most people upgrade because they have to... broken screen, too slow, battery doesn’t hold its charge, etc. If the X couldn’t get people excited to upgrade en masse, I doubt 5G and a rehash of the iPhone 4 design will do it.

If Apple wants a huge upgrade cycle like they had in the past, they’ll need to learn to innovate again. How about weeklong battery life? Sat tech so I’m connected anywhere in the world? Tech that Elon will surely beat Apple to the punch with even though Apple had every advantage. Sort of like how upstarts Roku and Spotify killed Apple in video and music.

The only things Elon is selling are his stock and some emission credits. All the rest is a flamboyant money losing machine turned into cult.

haha.. round #2... "Lets see if we can get it right this time.... COVID-19 screwed up 5G roll-out somewhat.". I wonder how far behind this will put us... Looks like 'Moore's Law' has been broke..

....And they said it couldn't be done......

AT&T is the absolute worst US carrier. The try to pull the wool over people's eyes all the time and they never spend enough time focusing on the things that do count. So glad I left them years ago. I can assure you I will never be going back.

6G...ha ha ha!

AT&T customers, check your plans. You may not have access to 5G anyway. And switching to a new 5G-enabled plan will send your per-device fees through the roof. For me, going from current high end plan to high end 5G plan takes per-device fee from $10 to $45. Obscene.

What "high end plan" is that? Their web site says that all unlimited plans include 5G at no extra cost.

And that is reinforced here -
That's the page I linked above. It does not list an "Unlimited Plus" plan. The only "Plus" plan I could find is a prepaid plan. Looks like you have an old plan that is no longer offered. But you don't need "Elite", since "Starter" and "Extra" also include 5G. Or switch to T-Mobile. All of their plans include 5G. Even cheap MVNOs like Mint get it at no extra cost.

The point of my comment is that people should check their existing plans for 5G access. I already know the status of mine :)

I'm still waiting for 4G/LTE Advanced to be everywhere.

The BS train is always on track with the new AT&T/SBC.

They're also complaining, along with Verizon, that T-Mobile has a spectrum advantage now. Considering that AT&T/SBC complained that iPhone users were dragging down their 2G network way back when, and that they felt that they would have to invest money in upgrading the network, I don't think they care to be in business. They just want people to send them money.

In the long run the carriers would be stupid to make 5G on the sub-6 bands more expensive. They have an incentive to move people to 5G as quickly as possible due to its better spectrum efficiency, which will eventually save them money. Maybe there will be additional fees for superfast service on mmWave spectrum.

Oh shut up at&t. You know what you’re really working on is convincing Apple to change iOS so that you can slap a 6Ge badge on 5G and repurpose it as “6G.”
