I am on At&t's website right now, and this reads much differently than the promo language I am seeing. There is not mention port in....

Yes, there are two offers. One is for customers who sign up for Direct TV, the second is for new Next installment plans trading in an iPhone 6 or above. The AT&T rep told me that once iPhone 7 preorders are scheduled to ship, you will receive the trade in promotion code when it is released from the warehouse for delivery. You can then use that code on the trade in website, or take it to a qualifying store that accept trade ins, and they will process the credit for you. The rep further confirmed that the offer applies to existing AT&T customers, as long as the phones being traded in are not still under an existing Next, or two year agreement plan.

Do you make the iPhone 7 purchase under a Next plan or purchase it outright?

I made both purchases (one 7+, one 7) on AT&T's website today under the Next plan. I have two iPhone 6's to trade in. One, which was under a two year agreement which expires in a few days, the second was under an existing AT&T next plan, under which I had two installments left. I paid the remaining two installments on the old next plan, prior to purchasing the new next plan.

Had you already preordered last night prior to making your order on this new next plan. Did you have to cancel anything?

Can someone define "Good working condition" I have 1 small crack in my iPhone 6 64gb but other than that it works flawlessly and doesn't have any other major cosmetic issues, also I would be switching from Verizon,

I pre ordered on the AT&T site, and when ordering I had to choose a next plan at time of devise pre-order. I assume if you purchased the phone outright, you would have to cancel that order, and reorder under a next plan to qualify for this promotion.

Chat is saying I need to add a new line of service to get this promotion. And yes, I verified it wasn't the directv offer

I didn't interpret it this way. Not an "AT&T Next upgrade offer" led me to believe if you were currently under a Next plan, and were upgrade eligible you would not qualify, which makes sense.

I just finished a two year contract with one IPhone 6, and enrolled in the 24 next with my iPhone 7+ Purchase today. Have a second iPhone 6 that was under a next program, but I had one installment left and paid it in full, and ordered an iPhone 7 on a brand new Next plan. I am hoping/expecting to trade in both these phones under this promotion.

I'm with you on this one. I have my mom on my plan and we're both month to month as her 6 is paid off and my 6s is on the IUP. When I was logged into my AT&T nowhere in the checkout process did it tell me that by upgrading her line, I would get the 7 free.

Just talked to ATT, after receiving the phone we can either contact ATT or they will email us with instructions on getting this deal. Existing customers are eligible. They pulled my account and said I qualify b/c I just signed up for Next even though I ordered the phone through Apple.

So I have a 6 plus that just finished my two year contract with my att unlimited plan. I should be able to trade this in right? Can I pay the difference to get the phone I want?

I'm chatting with AT&T right now. They have stated this:

Lourlyn: Trade-in an eligible iPhone 6 or newer and get a Free iPhone 7 32GB. this means that if you are under ATT next installment program you can trade in the device for iPhone7 Free after $650 in monthly bill credits. Tax is due at sale.

Lourlyn: You must purchase an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus on Next or Next Every Year it is the same as the trade in. Free after $650 in monthly bill credits. Tax is due at sale. Credits applied in equal amounts towards installment payments over entire agreement term. It will be appearing as installment however the credit will be applied as well since the price for the iphone7 is 649.99 and the credit is 650, it will be zeroed out.

Okay, I'm having a hard time understanding the whole taxes on trades when it comes to cell phones. In most states, when you trade in a car (lets say worth $10,000) and buy a more expensive car (lets say worth $30,000), you would only pay taxes on the difference (works out to $20,000). Why is this not true with cell phones?

If you are trading in an iPhone 6S that you bought for $650 (already paid state sales tax for this) and per the deal, you can trade it in for a new iPhone 7 32gb (worth $650), it is an even value trade for which you shouldn't have to pay sales taxes. Can someone please help me understand why all carriers insist on customers paying taxes on this trade to upgrade deal?

They pay up to $650 max, so you pay the rest if you get a 7+ or 7 with more than 32gb's. At least that's how I read it.

Well, one, auto dealers are a powerful lobby and they worked hard to get that specific loophole. Two, your phone you are trading in is not worth $650 anymore so it is anything but an even trade.

It didn't help their agents (or anyone) that AT&T put out one offer, then changed it mid-afternoon (well, put out a second offer, since it seems the original offer from this morning is still available). :) Glad they changed it though, their original offer (the DirecTV/new-line one) stunk, IMO.

I'd imagine that it'll take a day or two to totally clarify anything. I went ahead and upgraded my lines using AT&T Next (hoping for this deal). If it's not what it turns out to be, I'll just cancel my order...

My first pre-order today was with Apple, I still have those (and will cancel them once I totally am sure this AT&T deal is for real).

Just got done w/ a chat and the rep told me:

1) existing customers qualify
2) any Next plan qualifies
3) you can buy a more expensive phone and pay the difference

Basically I was told to upgrade to the model I wanted and when my phone arrives bring in my iPhone 6 to start the credits. Does this jibe with what others have been told?

The auto trade is no loophole.
I understand that the old phone isn't worth $650 anymore, but the program doesn't state that you will pay the difference in price for the new phone. It states trade in an eligible iPhone 6 or newer and get an iPhone 7 32gb (worth $650) for free.

Definitely jibes with how the terms of the deal read to me. Well, the one currently on their website. lol Hopefully more confirmations from what agents have been saying, but we all know what agents say isn't always 100%.

Update: An AT&T spokesperson reached out to AppleInsider to note the existence of a second deal, similar to to the first but which doesn't require a DirecTV subscription or porting a phone number. Customers must simply trade in an iPhone 6 or 6s in "good working condition," and buy an iPhone 7 through AT&T Next. The older hardware must be owned outright.
