Hmm so I already preordered the iPhone 7+ based on the screenshots with the rep that I posted earlier. However, now I'm wondering if they are going to screw us. The offer is good until the end of September but with shipping dates already slipped, I won't be getting mine until October and won't be trading in until after the promo date. Does this matter? (I.e. When I go to trade in my phone on October 10th, are they going to tell me I missed the promo period?)

I think as long as you pre order or buy an iPhone 7 before the 30th you should qualify.

The auto trade is no loophole.
I understand that the old phone isn't worth $650 anymore, but the program doesn't state that you will pay the difference in price for the new phone. It states trade in an eligible iPhone 6 or newer and get an iPhone 7 32gb (worth $650) for free.

It's absolutely a loop-hole. If you sell the same car outright, you don't get the same tax advantage. This goes back and forth in the automotive press every few years.

I talked to an At&t rep. He said new and existing lines qualify for the promo. After September 30th, I will receive an email with the trade in promo and then I have to shop my phone to att.

So they will automatically email us? I think I might stop in store after I receive my phone.

After the debacle with TMobile this morning and recognizing my job offers 25% off, I am back with ATT and got my wife's 32gb iPhone 7 for free with this offer as we have a 6 to trade in towards it.

They said they have a shipping label and you drop off at the store and the credits will be applied.

No better time to switch than now with the new discount and a free iPhone!!

Since I upgrade yearly, this is a deal-break for me, too.

When month #12 comes and I go to upgrade next year, I will not have received all of the $650 credit by then.
Isn't some credit better then no credit?

Interesting structure, basically tying you to AT&T without a contract. So long as you stay the phone is free, but as soon as you leave you owe the balance on it. Can't say as I blame them.

Since I have no current plans to leave AT&T for another carrier I may have to look at this. I hadn't been thinking to do an upgrade but this might adjust my thinking.

But you would have received half of it by the year mark, or $325 or so even if you are on a next plan that allows the upgrade after 12 months, the worst case is you would start new monthly payments under a new next plan if this promotion were not available then, correct? This still seems like a good deal to me regardless if you upgrade every year, but maybe I'm missing some thing? Since the promotion gives me more in credit that I will ever be able to sell my iPhone 6 for, this deal looks great to me, even if I upgrade after 12 months.....

Wasn't planning on upgrading but it is a very generous offer. But I'm confused as to how it'll affect me next year when I know I will want to upgrade to the 7S/8/2017 model.

The part that sticks out to me about this offer is that it is paid out over 24 months using NEXT and I won't have the phone for that total duration. If I upgrade next year at best I will get half of the $650 credit and may not et the full value of the trade in for next year as its still being paid off.

I do pay for my moms phone line and she has an available upgrade using NEXT. I don't mind keeping her line on a two year contract since we aren't going anywhere. Could I upgrade her line, put the sim from my 6 into the 7, trade in the 6 to get the monthly reimbursement, then sell the 7 next year on while continuing to get the monthly reimbursement even if I don't have the phone anymore? Her line will still be active, I just may not have the phone anymore. I would sell or trade it in.

But if you are making your monthly payments, you won't have paid $650 by month 12 either. For simplicity sake, if you use this promo and buy a $650 phone, at any point in time you will have gotten credits for every penny you've spent. I bought a $870 phone. I will either be $220 out of pocket if I keep the phone/pay it off or out of pocket $110 when I send it back to them in a year to upgrade to the iPhone 2017.

My contract with AT&T isn't up til Sept 28, 2016. Even though my phone (iPhone 6, not on AT&T Next so I would be new to Next) shows eligible for an upgrade, do I need to wait until Sept 29 to order the iPhone 7 to take advantage of the trade-in offer? I can always stop by AT&T store on Monday but thought someone may have already encountered this.

Also, this deal seems separate and apart from what your service plan is, but I'd like to confirm. I have the grandfathered-in unlimited data and would like to keep this.

Separate from your service plan and as long as your phone says it's eligible. For upgrade, you are also eligible for this promo.

I guess i come next year when the new iPhone is announced, i can payoff my the balance, sell the iP7 and upgrade? surly they'll have another promo next year?

In your case I would contact ATT with these questions. What if you have to be on a qualified plan and you lose your Unlimited plan. You should definitely confirm that with ATT

Or if you do Next Every Year you just send them your iPhone 7 and start a new Next payment plan for the new iPhone.

i've always had the 2yr contract, obviously my 6 was the last time for that. i was planning on keeping the paid off 6 for another year or buy the 6s outright and wait for next year but would have bought one unlocked.

You don't pay $650 out right, it's still a Next plan in your account. Just AT&T will credit you your Next monthly payment as long as you stay in their network.

I could certainly be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. But I don't fully understand your response. If you don't pay anything and you're getting the credit, how/when is AT&T getting paid? What transaction and amount would the sales tax be based on?

You make the monthly payment depending on which phone you buy. ATT pays you $650 / 24 each month for 24 months. I think we have to pay sales tax up front.

You buy the device for full retail price. You just happen to be financing the device cost but not the tax. Sales tax is based on the full retail price of the phone (pretty much downpayment + amount financed). Think of the credit for the trade-in as a separate transaction from the sale of the phone.

Now that the subsidized devises with 2 years agreements are a thing of the past, next is really the only option if you want to upgrade on a fairly regular basis. All I know is I was already paying ~ $30 a month for one devise under next for my daughter, and I would have continued to pay that for her new 7 under a renewed plan, and in addition would have started monthly payments under next for my new 7+. So I was expecting it to cost me around $30 more per month--instead, I'm saving $30 with the credits and two new phones to boot.

I also upgrade yearly, and I always buy my phones outright, but this year I kinda feel like Apple screwed us! I have an iPhone 6s Plus 64gb, I was planning on selling it for a pretty good price on eBay, but now I can't, once Apple announced that the iPhone 6s and 6s plus would come in 32Gb and 128GB, my iPhone lost value. I put it on craigslist and people offered me $300 and $400 for it. So I decided to go with the trade in promotion, and I did the 24 monthly installment so I can upgrade next year!
