Just checked and AT&T still says I'm on a 4GB plan. When I go and try to change my plan, it says:

Is it just me or is anyone else getting that same message?

Also, it looks like getting 10 GB instead of 6 GB is only $3/month more for our two iPhones (from $104/month -> $107/month)... maybe I'll just bump up to that...

Be patient, I am sure the system is updating, your account should show the 6GB later.

eta:Ended up doing the same as seamusk.

It is more like a USA vs Rest of the World situation! It is not just about cost/bandwidth, throttling, etc., but about how you are billed!

Everywhere else, the person making the call pays or uses up the minutes. Here, the in the USA, both parties get billed/tallied! That should be stopped! Missed calls - a whole another scam!
You realize they have basically done away with that, now. All current standard plans have unlimited talk and text, from all the major carriers. Still costs too much, of course.

I just signed in ten minutes ago. I still had my 2GB shared plan. I clicked on upgrade plan and the 3GB plan was there for the same price. So I took it. So it wasn't an auto-upgrade for me. Or didn't appear to be, though perhaps that would have happened if I waited longer.

I had to manually change it as well - not sure if they're slowly automatically updating people but I went ahead and switched up. Same monthly cost, didn't affect the Next discount on the phone side.

Just upgraded my Verizon More Everything Plan from 10GB to 15GB for the same price. The best deal seems to be 30GB for only $30 more, but with only 2 phones and 1 iPad on my plan, it would be pretty tough to use up 30GB each month.

all this just makes me happy I am grandfathered in to my Verizon unlimited data plan. Yes I have to pay MSRP for phones but there is nothing on the market right now even remotely close to $30 of unlimited LTE data.

My VZW account has yet to reflect the upgrade to 10GB/mo. They must be waiting for my cycle to end.

When I checked online, there were duplicate plans in the same price points, so I had to select the better one.

AT&T not automatically upgrading people

Just chatted with AT&T and the rep said they are NOT auto upgrading people.

It's really funny when people say this. Yeah, there's free wifi everywhere. What most people who say this don't realize is that it often SUCKS.

Many times when I'm at McDonald's or Starbucks the Wifi is so slow I actually have to turn it off to use the net on my phone. My LTE is worlds faster.

This has gotten worse lately; I suspect it's features like Photostream that start uploading photos and media as soon as people walk in the door of a place with Wifi.

Free Wifi generally sucks; cellular data is still important.

Don't forget that free WiFi is nearly ubiquitous in certain parts of the US. For example, here in the Seattle area all McDonalds, Starbucks, Panera, and many other restaurants/cafes have unlimited free WiFi. All Apple Stores and many Staples and Office Depot stores have free WiFi. When I stay at a hotel, most of them have free WiFi for guests, too. There's even free WiFi at SeaTac Airport, for example.

ATT will have to improve their LTE speeds if they are serious about competing with Verizon and TMobile another thing they could do is if you go over move you up to the next tier rather than charging $15/gig if you go over.

You havent gotten Google Starbucks in your area yet? I prefer it to using cellular.

ATT stays losing.

My wife and I share an AT&T 2GB plan. We sometimes go a bit over, but the overage charge is only $15/mo for another GB ($7.50 ea), so it's not too ludicrous.

So depending on where you are in the US, you may find yourself using free & fast WiFi instead of your cell carrier's data plan 90% of the time. IMHO, having 2GB/month is a lot of data to fully consume during the times when you're not out at a restaurant/home/store/hotel/whatever.

I hope you're using a VPN anytime you're connected to a public wifi network.

Yep...."Our new genious plan is to double the data for 97% of our subscribers on our "congested" network up to 100Gb of data all while throttling our 3% loyal unlimited data customers because they are bringing said network to a grinding halt." FTC please have a field day with this logic in court.

Family plan with 5 iPhones on 10gb plan. We usually top out around 7-8gb per month. Plus we just got 2gb per month free for two years. Bringing us to 12gb for $80 (formerly $100). Couple of times we've gone over, but those were predictable.

Should I keep our 10gb plan and save $20 per month, or bump up to 15gb (17gb for 2 years) and keep paying the same monthly bill?

I found it odd that I actually had to log into my account and change my plan manually, rather than them simply updating the amount of data available each month.

What would be the reason then for data plans to be so expensive in the US ?
Because the fact that gasoline is expensive in France is an assumed policy for obvious environmental reasons.
I guess the reason is a lack of competition.

In fact, just 3 years ago, we would pay 50€ ($62) for just 1GB of 3G... But a new company arrived on the market (a bit like T-mobile in the US) and dropped prices a lot. I guess it will be the same in the US, giving you access to data plans at a reasonable price.

Maybe prices have a lot to do with what people are willing to pay. Thought a thought

They are doing all but the middle planes that most people have like 6-10 GB plans. Why not double those?

Probably so they can push people toward the higher, more profitable plans.

Verizon Wireless- we have the best network, but the least amount of data! Welcome to the oxymorons!

Just went from the 4gb share to 6gb in about 10 seconds via att.com

Went back to main page and it's in effect right now, same price.

Awesome :)

The previous 4GB share didn't make much sense... 2GB was $40, 4GB was $70, and you can pay $15/extra GB. Basically the only reason to get 4GB was if you knew for sure you'd use at least 3+ each month.

It makes more sense now - since 3GB to 6GB is $45 extra, but you're only paying $30 more for the 6GB plan outright. Still not a screaming deal but at least there's a real reason to pick that 6GB plan. The 10GB plan is the one that now sticks out like a bit as a "bad" deal.

Every time there's a change such as this, I review the plans, and I never see any big savings versus paying full price for a phone -- iPhone or not -- and using a prepaid service such as Cricket. The savings on taxes alone is at least $15/month.

Or am I overlooking something?

Cricket throttles LTE speeds to 8mbps and HSPA speeds to 4mbps

Other than that, it's a great deal. Those speeds are still fast enough for most people.

And also you can't officially tether on Cricket without paying an additional $10 per month.

Yup. I don't have any apps that require even 4 Mbps, and plus my Nexus 4 can't do LTE unless it's flashed with the right radio firmware.

I don't watch streaming video on my phone because I have devices with bigger screens for that. Email syncs just fine at <1 Mbps. I was surprised to find that Skype (voice only) works fine on EDGE.

Hold on tight to that grandfathered plan. I'm sure you'll be part of a group that will get some payback for the BS that the Empire is putting you through, thanks to the FTC's recent actions.

Whatever payback there is should apply whether or not you still have the plan.

I think it has more to do with the cost of building out the network in the US, which is less population dense than France, especially in the west.

Plus in France there are a lot of rules requiring access to competitor networks and such.
