I hope Verizon and AT&T keep this up. I switched to T-Mobile at the beginning of the year, and I'm getting a little fed up with dead zones and poor building penetration. The T-Mobile Biding my time until Verizon or AT&T offer a deal that's a bit more enticing. 10GB seems to be the magic marketing number; I'd like to see it a little cheaper before switching.

If you find out, it would be great if you post back to this thread. I’ve been considering a change to t-Mobile, but this might keep me with Verizon.

It is confirmed that this will work.

Don't know if you've been replied to or not, but call them up and tell them you're thinking about switching to Sprint's 20GB/$100 plan and ask if they have something to match. They will double your 10GB plan.

You shouldn't have to go through all that though. They should offer it to everyone. What's so special about 15 GB and up plans that make them worthy of doubling but not 10 GB plans?

Probably because the majority of their users are at the 10GB prices. This allows AT&T to get good press and if people want it they will pay the extra money to move up. It's a win/win for them. However, the it really doesn't matter to AT&T because the majority of people are on the 10GB plans.

Yes, this. Getting screwed again. Thanks for nothing.

I'm not sure how...

When they offered the 10GB plan at $15/line even for those who had previously bought subsidized phones, my family plan for 2 phones and 4GB went from $150/mo to $118/mo. So I saved $32/mo and scored an extra 6GB/mo.

Got my increase from 6 gigs to 10 from Verizon. It's about time they give a little something, that's a free $20 upgrade for me.

Upgraded form 8GB to 10GB and saved $10/mo. My bill is now $210/mo for 8GB, three iPhones and one iPad. Pretty good deal, in my opinion.

Edit: my apologies, my carrier is VZW.

I don't agree. They should offer what they want to offer. They clearly don't want to offer the 10GB > 20GB plan and that's their decision to make.

Sweet! Just went from 10gb to 15gb for the same price for my 5 smartphone lines on Verizon.

An extra $30 per month in AT&T's pocket. That's what.

Well of course they can offer whatever they want. It's still a big thumb in the eye to all their 10 GB customers.

Verizon Unlimited Data plan for you!
39.99 (450 min) + 29.99 (unlimited data) =69.98

Booyah eat that Verizon!
On most reliable network that ain't bad.
PM.

Because they want to keep charging exhorbiant rates, and if they started doubling smaller plans they wouldn't have a good argument not to reintroduce those smaller sizes at lower rates. And it's not like it costs them a huge amount to give you that extra data.

I hope this isn't too off topic, but has anyone noticed an increase in the throttled speeds for ATT? I usually get throttled down to about .5mbs, but this past month, I was getting around 5 Mbs. Still horrible, of course, but at least it's somewhat manageable.

I jumped in on the 10gb deal with Verizon. I had 2gb (with 2 free gb), but I was sick of monitoring my data so closely. This should allow me to stream more videos and not have to feel guilty about it. $24 (after employee discount) well spent IMO. Comes out to about $3 per gb for the extra 8 gb. Not a bad deal considering 1 gb of overage is $15.

And I'm a little nervous that is only a temporary deal. There's a large gap between 4GB and 10GB with nothing to fill it, so I'm afraid it'll go away soon. I figured I better jump on board.

Data caps are a crime against humanity. I'm still grand fathered in on my original iPhone unlimited plan with AT&T, but if I want tethering I have to give it up. That, and AT&T continually throttles me and sends me messages when I go over 2.5GBs (I stream a lot of internet radio). Nuts to that. I tested T-Mobile and they're actually pretty damn good here in the LA area. Soon as my iPhone 6 arrives Ma Bell is getting the ole heave-ho!

Hold on tight to that grandfathered plan. I'm sure you'll be part of a group that will get some payback for the BS that the Empire is putting you through, thanks to the FTC's recent actions.

How much does data cost the phone companies anyway ? if I get on a 10 GB family share plane and we use 15GB of data does it actually cost the AT&T more money for me using this extra data ? I ask because I honestly do not know how this works, I assume it is all just supply and demand they have a product that they figured out how to measure and charge you what they feel they can get away with, although I know there is a lot of cost for the inferstructure and maintenance. I sure someone on here has a more technicle knowledge about how these things work and can explain why the cost of data is so expensive.

It doesn't really matter as it costs whatever the market bears. Text messaging practically didn't and doesn't cost anything at all to the carriers but companies have been charging what equates to huge fees for basically nothing for them for years and years without anything really crazy happening until the market overall changed and offering unlimited options became something that was more of a norm in general.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you go over your data plan limits? I haven't been on a U.S. contract in so long, I can't remember what data plan I was on. I'll be going back to the U.S. soon and probably don't need a 10GB data plan, but I think 2-3GB might be too little.

My wife and I share an AT&T 2GB plan. We sometimes go a bit over, but the overage charge is only $15/mo for another GB ($7.50 ea), so it's not too ludicrous.

Don't forget that free WiFi is nearly ubiquitous in certain parts of the US. For example, here in the Seattle area all McDonalds, Starbucks, Panera, and many other restaurants/cafes have unlimited free WiFi. All Apple Stores and many Staples and Office Depot stores have free WiFi. When I stay at a hotel, most of them have free WiFi for guests, too. There's even free WiFi at SeaTac Airport, for example.

So depending on where you are in the US, you may find yourself using free & fast WiFi instead of your cell carrier's data plan 90% of the time. IMHO, having 2GB/month is a lot of data to fully consume during the times when you're not out at a restaurant/home/store/hotel/whatever.

Just checked and AT&T still says I'm on a 4GB plan. When I go and try to change my plan, it says:

We're currently processing a change to this plan. Once it's complete, you can make more changes.

Is it just me or is anyone else getting that same message?

Also, it looks like getting 10 GB instead of 6 GB is only $3/month more for our two iPhones (from $104/month -> $107/month)... maybe I'll just bump up to that...
