I guess good news for the people that are eligible in those months. I was able to upgrade two of my lines but the other two lines I have to wait till next May. Which I might hold those upgrades. I wouldn't doubt it if another Iphone comes out.

Okay. My other line (primary) which is a non-iPhone upgrade date says 9/30/2009, so will I be able to use that upgrade tomorrow to get the new iPhone for 199/299
OR
My iPhone line upgrade says 4/30/2010...or will have just have to pay the 399/499 as of now.
I got both of these phones on 8/29/2008.

Unless the press release is completely misleading, I suspect not a whole lot of people will be affected. Ironically it will probably just make people even more pissed.
I wonder if credit scores factor in?
I don't think so. My credit is in the 700s anyhow.
It makes sense now why I dont even have the December date-- it is because of how that ATT store screwed me over by making my mom's line the primary thereby reducing the monthly charges on my iPhone. Either they did this for more commission as another poster mentioned or they did it out of incompetence. ATT did admit that it was an error although they said that since I have an iPhone they cant make it right. Nice.
Doubtful nfl46-- As I read the release it is ONLY for current iPhone owners. I.e. since your non-iPhone phone is in September 2009 for an upgrade you will have to wait until September 2009 since it is not an iPhone.
Thanks a lot! I don't think I can wait, lol. I'll just pay the 399 this week. I have this crappy Pay As You Go phone since I sold my 3G a few weeks ago..
This is great news for me because I'm elegible in September of 2010 and I'm sure they will offer the same deal next June when the next version of the iPhone is released.

I got my iPhone 3G on launch day last year and replaced my iPhone 2G that I got on launch day 2 years ago. My bill has been $200+ a month for the past few years. Never missed a payment as it is autopay to a credit card. I'm not eligible until 12/12/09, is this going to change tomorrow? Something doesn't seem right....

This reminds me of all the uproar last year when the 2G owners got a subsidy and those who weren't eligible got all pissed off.

this didn't happen last year, all first gen iPhone users got it subsidized.Last time I seen them so mad was when apple dropped the iPhone price by $200 a month after it was released.
why screw att? you dont give enough money to att so there is less incentive to give you discounts. thats how the world works my friend

When they say the system will be updated on June 18th, do they mean June 18th at midnight or something like June 18th at 6am?

You can call *639# from your iPHone and they will text you back your status. I did that several times until just a couple hours ago they moved my upgrade status up from March '10 to Dec '09.
Not quite what I wanted but better anyway.
Just keep checking and check tomorrow too.
Nothing new with my account. You would think with a $180 bill per month before taxes and fees and overages that I would get something out of this. But then again it's a FAN account and they're always pretty slow with them so who knows. And also it's not even June 18th yet so who knows.

BUT once my contract is up, shouldnt I pay less and be able to keep my phone? As an example the original iPhone wasnt subsidized and had only a $20 a month data fee. The subsidized iPhone pays $30. So therefore when my subsized contract expires shouldnt I at least have my monthly fees lowered to make up for the fact that ATT has made there money off me. I may just want to keep my perfectly functioning 2 year old phone on a month to month basis?

I was mistake, the bill is $190. My line is worth $110 since I am the primary line that has the Family Messaging, 550 minute plan, and my own data attached. So I may eligible, but my dad nor my brother may not be.
so this news is only for iphone 3G customers,so if I just own a regular phone on AT&T I cant upgrade to the 3GS for the regular price,I'm eligible to upgrade on 8/30/09 btw
Ok so I just checked everyone's upgrade status on the plan. ITS JUST TOO FUNNY!!! Mine is at 12/25/2009 while my brother's is at 8/25/2010 and my dad's is at 9/31/2010. I don't even pay the bill and I get the special treatment! This just cracks me up. At this point though I'm just going to wait for the next generation of iphone to arise.
