Untrue, I had a 2G and upgraded and I got January 2010

Same story here. Had original iPhone, got the 3G in late July, when it became available again. No eligible for an upgrade until Jan '10. I think this is more for people without iPhones at all. I don't see how this helps any 3G owner. I saw someone say it has to do with how much you pay per month, well I thought my bill was pretty high and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

That's because the website hasn't updated yet. You have to call and order directly through AT&T at this time to get the pricing.

Tomorrow the website should be updated to reflect the new dates.

You paid $600 for your 3G iPhone?

You're not eligible to upgrade to another subsidized phone until March. What's your confusion?

No...I paid 399 each for 2 3Gs iPhones. So $400 is the difference between the total I paid and the $199 each price

My confusion I guess is how it's all determined...they're pretty unclear about it.

I dunno, whatever, if it's showing March then it'll show March tomorrow so $399 it is

Have you not purchased cell phones in the last 10 years? That's how subsidized pricing has worked in the US. New contracts get better deals. Those who have not fulfilled their agreements will not get the better deal. One year is less than the two years you agreed to, so you have not fulfilled your complete agreement.

Are you still talking? I stopped listening.

Seriously though, last year (1 year into my iPhone 2G contract) I got the same price on the 3G as a brand new customer....so sometimes different s#1t happens....Shut your mouth, you don't know everything there is to know

So if I'm understanding this correctly, only 3G owners who meet this new eligibility will be able to receive the full subsidy. My upgrade date is in July, but I'm on a Blackberry -- I'm guessing I'm out of luck for the 3Gs until my date?

you do realize the iphone 2g contracts weren't subsidize right? meaning you weren't locked into a contract via the iphone 2g. meaning everyone that had a iphone 2g could get the iphone 3g pricing last year....

Yeah you'll probably have to wait it out until your upgrade date...or pay $399. Worth giving them a call though an asking?

I did end up calling, and they told me there was nothing they could do. Kind of stinks as I've been waiting out my contract to upgrade to an iPhone. Great for 3G owners, but I've been with the same contract since 2007.

from the other threads. seems like people paying over $100+ or had some big family plan were eligible faster. i have the basic plan and i'm not eligible till dec. :( i would love for AT&T to come out and tell us exactly what the threshold is. but i doubt they will.

Being rude to me when I was trying to explain the situation won't make you get your upgrade eligibility. I'm sorry for trying to clarify things for you.

If you don't believe me, look at other posts stating that the original iPhone was not subsidized.

Okay, here's my situation. I signed up for AT&T in October 2008, and signed up with 2 lines: one having an iPhone 3G and the other a crappy phone. In March, I lost my phone, so I payed the $400 and got a new 3G. Now, I was wondering, tomorrow, will I be eligible for the $199/$299 prices? I'm already eligible for the $400/500 on the second line.

I want a free phone with unlimited everything for free. And strippers to read my text messages to me.

No. Persons eligible tomorrow are ones who already WOULD have been eligible this coming July, August, or September. I can't imagine under what scenario you would have fit this criteria, so you won't be eligible to get the reduced pricing.

Wrong. All original iPhone users were locked into a 2 year contract. I should know; I'm one of them.

Right all 2G phones had a 2yr contract but the phone was not subsidized. The 3G phone is subsidized so that is why AT&T wants you to fulfill your contract to get new customer pricing or spend enough monthly >$100 to reduce your fulfillment time to 12-18 months.

thats correct. Original iphone owners paid full price AND were locked in for two years.
Yeah, that was a bit of a hard pill to swallow. I suspect it had to do with the fact that Apple was demanding a sharing of cell service revenue with AT&T at the time. Well, that and the fact that AT&T isn't completely altruistic..

people who are $90+ / month and december upgrade eligible should come to this thread and post reports on calling AT&T - user Diode had success in calling and getting his changed.

YEP!!!

I called AT&T, and they gave me the upgrade price!!! I had a December eligibility ( but over the $99/month phone bill) and she said yes, that I would get my 32GB for $299.

All it took was a phone call (dial 611 from your phone)

In the words of Kurt Warner after he won the superbowl "THANK YOU JESUS!!!!" I have bought every iPhone on launch day...and now I'll be able to continue my streak....3 for 3.....32gb white back here I come.....

Wait wait wait.. so this only counts if your bill is > $99 a month?

WTF... WOW.

My girl and I are on a shared plan but our total bill is only like $205 a month.
I guess I'm ****ed then, huh?

Are you going to be able to get it on launch day though? I heard every place is out of preorders.

Why did you pay $400 for a 3G? If you had a 2G you were eligible for the $199 phone.
