Poughkeepsie, NY (80 miles out of NYC)

No cap here, consistently about 1700kbps down, 1300kbps up

EDIT: Most likely it's a network hiccup and it'll be bake to normal soon?

Network hiccup? Nah....it's more than that. It's been going on since the beginning of July, and doesn't show any signs of changing. Also, were it a hiccup, I would not expect the upload rates to be so consistent speedwise.

You can add South Jersey/Philly to the list....

Wow, I'm getting horrible upload speeds too. Man, I did this a week ago and they were 10 X this. Damn.

Add Columbus Ohio to the list too!!

This is just the last straw. I can't sign another 2 years even for this iPhone 4.

Today is July 4th. We celebrate this day for our FREEDOM. If Apple has any American left in them, I want to see them leave this piece of garbage AT&T.

You can't support iPhones without crippling your network, please for God's sake, upgrade your f_cking network. You collect all the money from hard working Americans and yet you turn around go f_kcing f_cuk us all over again.

The iPhone 4 is so capable of fast upstreams. This is just really really really lowballing.

Thanks for bringing this up for discussion. I've sent to engadget - most of you should tip engadget.com as well. I hope this news hits everyone in the morning.

Apple, I hope you will get some STDs from sleeping with AT&T for so many ***** years.

Huh. Well, maybe when I wake up I'll be affected! I just don't see why it would be capped SO LOW, I mean, 90kbps is barely anything, my iPhone in 2007 could hit those speeds.

Tested it on a friend's iPhone 4 in West Houston / Katy, TX. 4 attempts out of 4 it's being held at around 100kbps upload.

Mine isnt too bad, just west of boston

@Minimoose 360: I know, the speeds are really low, but it's a reality for millions of Americans. Kinda sad.

Before anyone says this is still OK - (having the upstream capped) - the download speeds are one thing - that's if you just look at websites and other media contents.

What's more important is the upstream - you send images mms, all sorts of emails with attachments. The iPhone 3GS was limited to 384kbps max. Now the iPhone 4 is so capable of of over 1.5mbps.

You cripple the upstream, how the fhking way am I suppose to enjoy emailing pics, beejive'ng, and other media content to be sent on my iPhone 4?

This is back to the beginning again. If you can't support the iPhone AT&T, please for f__cks sake, upgrade your goddam network. You have collected so much money already, your ***** greed is just terrible. I swear to any higher power if the iPhone goes to Verizon, I'm jumping ship even with ETF. Why must you cripple the iPhone 4 AT&T?!?!?!?!?!?

This is freaking sad.

Sad is an understatement. I mean, I buy a porsche or a corvette. I am limited to going 60mph.

iPhone 4 is great but it's only as great as the network it's being used on. Man, come this monday, I'm going to f'ng see if i can return everything. This is just sad, sad, sad.

NYC, Central Jersey, Boston, Orlando, Seattle, South Jersey/Philly, Columbus, Cleveland, West Houston, Phoenix!

AT&T WISHES YOU A HAPPY 4th OF JULY, EVERYONE!!!

same here in northern colorado

seems contradicotry to what they advertise though

Additionally, as of the first quarter of 2010 our national 3G average data download speeds are up 25 percent versus a year ago based on internal data.

Earlier this year, AT&T completed a software upgrade at 3G cell sites nationwide that prepares the nation’s fastest 3G network for even faster speeds. The deployment of High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 technology is the first of multiple initiatives in AT&T’s network enhancement strategy designed to provide customers with an enhanced mobile broadband experience, both today and well into the future. Faster 3G speeds are scheduled to become available this year and in 2011 on a market by market basis as AT&T combines the new technology with the increased deployment of high-speed backhaul connections to cell sites, primarily with fiber-optic technology. Late this year, we plan to upgrade our network to HSPA+, the latest generation of our 3G platform.

Perhaps it is the backhaul that we are experiencing?

Same thing happening here in Phoenix. Barely 50 kb/s upload which obviously ruins the whole browsing experience.

I just ran some web browsing tests - of course, it's such a terrible experience now. It's like iPhone 3G days again.

yes, the world is coming to an end because of AT&T

NYC, Central Jersey, Boston, Orlando, Seattle, South Jersey/Philly, Columbus, Cleveland, West Houston, Phoenix!

You should keep a list on the very first page of your post - I really hope AT&T releases the upstream cap. I pray this hits national news in the morning.

Good idea iPadThai.

Downtown Manhattan reporting in. Speeds were great on July 1. Not so much right now. Just another NYC data point.

I hate to add more, but I've found that my download speeds are about 500kbs lower when used in my RIGHT hand as opposed to my left. Ive tested it about 10 times or so each hand. Has anyone else tested this. Also, this isn't any type of a "death grip" just the normal way you'd hold the phone when holding it vertically.
