It said,
As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee.

So, I guess that means I'm eligible...like I thought.
Can the upgrade fee be waived?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I hate to be the one bringing this up because I hate seeing Verizon rumors so much, but if this is true that they are bumping up peoples upgrade dates I think it's as good a sign as any that for some reason AT&T is trying to not lose customers this summer to other carriers.

Check your text again, mine said the same thing except that they would waive the upgrade fee.

I like how "some" from Gizmodo's articel title and "a handful" from the article itself turns into "many" on here. Completely deceptive thread title meant to instill false hope in people. It would have been better to say "some" or "a few."

And no, I'm not annoyed about my eligibility. I've been eligible since Dec 2009.

When I checked online this is what the website said about my upgrade options.

I'm having issues. When I click Upgrade Eligibility, the ATT site sends me to a ATT business page and I get 2 options:

Colorado Government Employees
Colorado Government Employees.

Doesn't matter which one I click, it sends to the business phones site of ATT, and I just go in circles. (I am not a Colorado Govt Employee either)

I'm good to go at 6/20/2010 but my wife is out at 2/22/2011. I hope they push hers up, otherwise she isn't getting the new one. ;(

Sounds like you called in and set yourself up on a FAN account (w/o realizing what account it was.) Probably something you got out of some forum thread.

Click on one and select a phone. If you get a message with a date, that's it. If no message, you are currently eligible.

Or just do the *639# thing. It's really not hard at all. Not sure why ppl keep ignoring that.

Hmmm, ours is still 11/21 but we're on business/discounted accounts.

Up until about 3 months ago we were spending $240 a month which puts us in the pull ahead group, usually the over $99 per line. Then we went to the $99 a month plan plus text so our bill sits right at $200.05 per month.

Last year they did 1 phone eligible but not the other until I called in and complained.

We sell a LOT of AT&T to our customers and I reminded them of that, plus the fact AT&T is utterly useless at installing DSL/T1's that they should have given me 2 phones for all the babysitting BS I have to put up with their tech's.

I do know last year I was in one of the last rounds to get my date moved up so I'll give it a few weeks.

I bought my 3GS on launch day and my wife's came in about 3-4 days later.

I have a blackberry activated 12/6/08 and my early upgrade date is 8/6/10. Hopefully I'll get the new iphone for me and the wife in August at the discounted price (2-yr committment of course).

Nope. They're still making me wait until November. Way to get my hopes up. Boo (actually it hopefully won't matter since I'll be on Verizon then..RIGHTT??? ;)

I did the *639# thing.

Bill was due today and payed today but not yet cleared so it said I had a 'past due balance'.

Once the bill clears then it says I am eligible for an early iPhone only upgrade.

I got lucky last year, walked into BB the night before launch and reserved one of the 5 3GS's that were available. This year I plan on pre-ordering to skip all the crap.

How does at&t normally handle that since your ordering before your eligibility date?

It says mine is not available until 2.20.2011. I upgraded to the 3GS on launch day. Im not sure why mine is so late. Its going to cost me $499 to upgrade the the expensive model. We pay around $170 per month. Both my wife and I have Iphones. Do you think I may have a chance to upgrade without spending $499 in june?

Well, I'm eligible for an upgrade right now.

The bad news, I just noticed AT&T charged me $210 this month, with $100 in minutes overages . . . Even though I only used 470 minutes in a 450 minute plan and I had over 2,000 rollover minutes. And they charged $20 in overages the previous month.

I'm thinking they're charging me a dollar per dropped call now.
