If the second post-recall Note 7 thermal runaway is confirmed then that's likely the end of the model as a viable commercial success.

Meanwhile the iPhone 6 touch disease class action suit is up to 10,000 participants. The phone wont catch fire by itself but will after frustrated owners toss it into the fireplace this winter. :)

I am wondering how such a big company failed so miserably at addressing this issue.

Really makes you take a second look at how slow Apple is at bringing new products to the market. I suspect they go through extensive safety testing. We already know that suppliers must meet very strict requirements.

And what, pray tell, does that have to do with this?

So your not going to answer him.

In the end what does any of this have to do with the tremendous failure and liability that is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7?

I hate to say this but this product cycle is one where I'm very glad I went back to the iPhone. The Note 2 that I used was spot on, and did many things the iPhone has just learned how to do, but I'd be SORE if I had to deal with exploding Note 7's and whatnot.

That god is basically crapping on everyone at this point. Exploding note phones, Apple's 13 billion tax bill, HTC's practically irrelevant, blackberry going out of the hardware business. Nobody's immune these days.

Correction. HTC is irrelevant. And Blackberry is out of the hardware industry.

You do realize that Apple is NOT above criticism, right?

Plenty of people like 90% of what Apple does, and fight(you'll say complain) for Apple to fix the last 10%

I think it says more about you, that you obviously can't stand to hear criticism about Apple, if you are reacting this way
I've stopped feeding trolls/superfans a while back. These newer fanboys are incapable of seeing any fault with Apple.
Your 90% estimate is somewhat kind. My guesstimate is closer to 70% these days and declining. All the while I'm hoping for a turn around and remain positive for Apple.

Samsung's plans for the Note 7 :p

The bad thing is that the Note 7 kills the IP7 Plus. I wish I could get that phone.. I'll just stick with IP7 since I have no choice
LOL

So much hate towards Samsung. I just done a research, iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5s, SE, 6, 6S, and iPhone 7 doesn't work well with Virtual Reality. Tell me..why would I buy an iPhone 7 over a Samsung Galaxy S7? When Apple doesn't even care about their own costumers, if they did..they would've provide better VR experience for iPhone 7 4.7 users, because Apple's partners like Carl Zeisz VR One sucks!
Tim Cook said that VR is a gimmicky product. let's hope Tim doesn't say sex it's bad, because most of you..will stop having sex!
What are you, 12?

I'm starting to think Samsung did what has been done in most replacement programs. They just push a software fix on unsold devices and called them "replacement" thinking this was just a software issue. If it is still happing tells me that it is hardware that's the problem!

A turn around from what is needed?

Lower competition is not good for the consumer. We probably won't have a balanced competition if Samsung actually falls. I hope Samsung learns from its mistake and bring out even better phone (and i hope a new OS).

For a product that was rushed out to meet a deadline , beating the iPhone 7 launch , could one assume that a risk assessment was made and the cost benefits outweighed the risk at the time.

i see the relation here with the fire extinguisher example. Just going to throw it out there and say the battery chosen was on the cheapest side of the scale, had they chooses the best quality available.... no exploding phones .

Just like the BT module in my Mac Pro , few extra dollars for a better component and I might have a very expansive Mac Pro that works with BT in 2016 :)

Apologies if I got the wrong interpretation of the discussion, have not read the whole thread

Is the BT module going to explode? The correlation is tenuous/deflection as you "assumed" the battery was "cheap".

Half the problem with this incident is people focused on the silly notion the note 7 and the replacement is a hand granade with the pin out.

My BT module exploding is an excellent example of tenuous/deflection .

Try google, the issue has been tracked down to low quality batteries and is well documented. Lets forget bebating what cheap is, ads nothing to the thread.

There were three replaced 'safe' mote7 explosion in Korea.

The first one, they don't have video,

But 2nd incident happened at the baseball park, so a lot of guys filmed it.

3rd incident happened at the Burger King and filmed by customers. She was brave.

When Apple copy something, its called inspiration. When Samsung does, is pure and simply theft... in case you did not know, Apple has been "inspired" many times.

Do you also know that there is a lot Samsung inside Apple products?

I never understood this hate for companies. It is so immature and captivating. First it was Microsoft, now Samsung and Google. Next, whatever is a threat to Apple's world domination.

And yes, you are a fanboy. But don't take it as an insult. It is who you are.
i could substantiate my points further but I literally could not be bothered arguing with you. Have a great day.

its easy to be flippant and laugh at Samsung over this. I personally wouldn't make (much) fun over their problems. But I guess it proves you get more Bang for your buck with Samsung. ;)

Its very sad though, and we should not forget it could happen to anyone, including Apple. If I remember correct we have had similar issues in 2014, and recently there have been a couple of iPhone 6s/7 as well. The pure nature of these types of battery can cause a fire if then materials are not 100% correct. I recently saw a film where some guy disassembled a lithium battery and just the action of him scratching the materials with a knife caused the battery to burn. The knife added impurities.

On a partially related note, there was a cargo plane brought down a few years ago because its freight was lithium batteries and one cell caught fire, and the fire spread so fast it damaged the aircraft systems. The crew tried to return to the airport but the plane crashed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPS_Airlines_Flight_6
