They wouldn't waive the early upgrade fee for me. They said that fee is what allows me to get the phone at a discounted price, therefore it's required.

What I'm pissed about is I paid $250 early upgrade fee for the iPhone 5, which also put me on a new 2-year contract. They won't unlock my 4s because I have only had it for one year, and they can only unlock after two years. Doesn't make sense if I'm paying for an upgrade fee for a new phone and new contract yet my 4s is still bound by the 2-year rule. Ridiculous.
 
Got my two activation fees waived, but not the early upgrade fee. Eh ill take the 72 bucks :) Did it through the online chat.
 
Will they apply the credit before I actually purchase the iPhone? I'm debating switching to Verizon but if I could get this then I would stay.
 
Mine has four iPhones on it and runs about $240/month.

$100+. I've also been with AT&T for a long time.

ah mine is only around $150

I get the $60 off a month, I guess that's good for me.

Last week my brother's friend used his phone and racked up $72 in charges and they credited it, i think that along with the 3x upgrade is pretty high too haha
 
I tried multiple times last week. On the phone and over chat. No dice, couldn't even get them to waive the $36 if I went ahead with the upgrade. My family has been with AT&T for 15+ years, and we have a Premier account. They just don't care. It would be cheaper to cancel my line for $225 and go somewhere else than pay $250 for the early upgrade.
 
im still trying, i have done the chat and havent rearlly gotten anywhere when i called they said they made a note in my account that i could upgrade to any phone BUT the iphone..so i think i might wait for the note 2, sell it and buy the iphone outright

im trying with the chat department associated with "bills" what are you guys trying?
 
To better understand..you just asked for a $250 credit? If AT&T is throwing that out to their customers, I want in on this lol. What's the catch? They put you on their tiered plans, huh? :p

Yea I just asked for a $250 credit. I didn't even renew the plan yet and I'm still on unlimited data for now. I think it's a discretionary credit and it depends on who you get.

I had already purchased my phone when the credit was issued.

Keep trying. It depends on who you get. Just tell them that two of your friends were able to get a credit on their account. Don't give up.

Same here. I just told the rep I had heard that they were waiving the fees for some people, and I was looking into it. She gave me the credit, no questions asked.

Yea I think it really depends on who you get. Some will do it and some make you feel like you're crazy. Lol.

They can and will unlock your phone. I did it with no hassle. I'm in the same exact situation as you. When I called, the rep could see I paid the $250 upgrade fee and unlocked my phone immediately. My 4s has been unlocked since Tuesday and I just sold it yesterday.

I called them and chose the all other account issues option. chat didn't do anything for me.

i can vouch for this

I'm with ATT and while i was not able to get any credit. ATT moved up all my upgrades so that can i upgrade all lines to iphone5s for $199. Ive also noticed that my contract was extended to July 2014 instead of July 2013 when the contract was suppose to end.

My tactics was I told att csr that i wanted my whole family to have the latest iphone and we were all looking forward to it. I stated that I have been with ATT for while now and I would continue to be a "value customer" if they help me get the iphone5 now.


Then she let me order even though my contracts expire late 2013.
 
I'm going to have to give this a try. I doubt It will work, as I have already received a $250 credit a couple of years ago. If not maybe they will let me upgrade another line for $199.

YESSSS i got them to waive the fee!!!!! wooo getting the new iphone tomorrow!!

after 1 call, and 4 chat attemps, i got them to give me a 250 credit!
this is what the CSR said (online)
"In regards to the cost of the iphone it cannot be changed. If you go to purchase the phone you will be paying the early upgrade pricing. However, as a 1 time courtesy I can apply a $250 credit to your account. Please be advised this is a one 1 time courtesy and and will not be applied if you want to perform an early upgrade on any of the other lines"

Im assuming that means i will never be able to get the "courtesy" again but i think its only for early upgrade fees...either way, just keep trying and you will get it waived!! soooo happy right now!!!
 
another tip

If you guys are having trouble getting the fees waived, many CSR reps offered me a discount to my plan that made adding another line free basically.

I had unlimited messaging for $30 a month, and she changed it to $20 to allow me to add another line without paying per month.

This route might be easier to ask if cannot get full early upgrade fee waived.

Goodluck everyone, just keep trying. it took me 3 tries.
