You could return the 6 you got your wife before the 14 days are up and get both of your phones using next which will bring down the cost to $15 per line instead of $40. Assuming you got the 64gb 6 for both and used next 18 for both, your payment would be $62 for both. Since you would be saving $25 a line this route, your bill would go up only $12 a month...plus you get to save the amount you have to pay upfront to upgrade them for a 2 year contract which for the 6 64gb would be $530 for both ($650 - 120 taxes which are due when you get the phones).

Your bill this way would be $130 for the 30gb data, $30 for both iPhone and $62 for both next payments minus the 24% discount which would come off the $130 only so brings that part down to $99 so your total bill would be $191 plus tax. Tax would only be charged on the $99 and the $30. The next payments don't have tax on them since you already would have paid it when you got the phones. If you do it the 2 year contract way, your bill would Be $149 a month plus tax. You would have to pay $630 up front for both phones(assuming you get the 6 64gb for both). Good luck.

Thanks for breaking it down for me. That was extremely helpful.

It is not hard to figure out! Simply dial 611 and pose the question to them. I did that recently and they laid it all out for me.

Through my past experiences, I get better information from this very board.

And on top of that, I was sitting at my desk at work when I posted that. I didn't have the opportunity to call them.

Yeah, I think I'll likely switch to the 40GB, too, albeit will probably do it in stages. I think I'll use up my 10GB first (should be gone in 1-2 days), then switch to 30GB and just do the switch to 40GB when the 30GB runs out or by 10/29 at the latest. :p

I'm not sure why I didn't think of that. I will get one more month at the lower rate and then switch over on the 29th like you. Sharp girl you are.

That actually gives you 80GB of data (10 + 30 + 40) if you do the effective immediately/pro-rated thing. That's quite a bit of Netflix streaming. ;)

I do believe there's still a moratorium on internet taxation (which the base GB plans are considered) so tax would likely only be for the $15 per line charge. :)

So, if I purchased the iPhones on both lines of my account through 2 year contracts, it costs $40 each per month to use them with Mobile Share?

Did anyone else's visual voice mail stop working after switching to the mobile share plan?

Edit:Nevermind, started working again.

Your situation is very similar to my situation so I've looked into this exact scenario. If my numbers are right, you and I will pay A LOT more on the 30 GB "deal." If I remember correctly, it's $130 minus discount, plus $40 for each new iPhone (or 2 in this case). Does that look right to you? Did I miss anything?

If you signed your contract before feb of this year, each smartphone is only 15 dollars a month not 40. Also any phone on next is only 15 dollars a month not 40.

Incorrect. If you signed the 2yr contract prior to feb of this year it's only 15 dollars, not 40. Was told this by 3 diff people at two diff corp att stores yesterday and today.

Perhaps, but I purchased (ordered and paid for) 2 new iPhones just a few days ago. So it would be $40 each for me.

Correct. Might consider switching them to next, doing the math and see if it work outs for you. You signed a 2yr contract to get the subsidized price but at 40 dollars per line on mobile share plan, you're looking at 960 dollars per year or 1920 over the course of those two years. If you do next, you're looking at 30 dollars a month for both lines plus the monthly cost of the phones which depends on if you do next 12 or next 18.

Thanks, I'll look into it. But my wife and I typically keep our iPhones for longer than 2 or 3 years, so Next might end up being more expensive for us in the long run. And if we stay on our current grandfathered Family Plan the phones aren't $40 each per month.

Correct about saving the 40 dollars by not switching and keeping unlimited plan. But also consider you can always pay next off early and sell the phone after 1yr if you don't want to trade it in. AT&T and Verizon are giving 300 dollars for 5S right now which is 100 more than I paid for it. Multiple factors to consider. My wife and I are both on grandfathered unlimited data plan but thinking really hard about the 40gb mobile share plan. Both are phones would be 15 each. Just take your time, work the numbers and see if it works for you. Frankly I'm just flat out tired of getting throttled at 5gb. I hit that 1.5-2 weeks into my billing cycle. Good luck!

Now begins me hoping and praying that Verizon one ups ATT and offers this promo for all their plans. Fingers crossed. Yay competition! I would absolutely love to get 8 Gb for the price of 4 Gb.

It can't be more expensive for next. If you keep phones longer on a 2 year contract you continue to pay the monthly subsidy built into your bill thus losing you money. With next if you keep it longer than 2 years it becomes fully paid off and you continue to get the discounted service but stop the monthly next payments.

As for the bolded part it doesn't show up as $40 per month each but the subsidy is currently built into your account it just doesn't show it as a separate charge.

For NEXT, what happens if you decide keep the phone after 12/18 months? Do they still charge you the installment payment?

Next is basically an interest free loan to buy your phone. Once you pay off the full price the installments stop.

Actually the 12/18 next is 20/24 months so if you're on the 12 next, you own it after 20 payments. 24 payments for the next 18.

Sad day, not really as I started being throttled today again, but I finally gave up the unlimited and moved to the 30gb plan.

Monthly bill is the same with two new phones on Next and I have hot spot and more data I'm likely to ever use.

Yes until 20/24 months. Then at that point the installment plan is paid off and the installment payments stop.

Actually the 12/18 next is 20/24 months so if you're on the 12 next, you own it after 20 payments. 24 payments for the next 18.

Ok from understanding, if I do next for 24 months with 6 plus 64gb it would cost me $35.42 x 24 = $850.08 which is how much the phone without contract right now, correct? Not including the $15 if my family switch to the new promotion.
I'm currently with contract so it will cost me $440 + ($40 x 24) = $1140 after 24 months.
So with next after 24 months, I own the phone, right? There's no more $35.42 installment and I can trade it for a new one or keep it? Sorry for asking so many questions.
