Anyway...this is a sign of things to come most likely. Right now its a limited deal, but within a year watch it will be the norm

I think you are right. Also, I just feel this is a really desperate attempt for AT&T to get rid of unlimited data users. Could there be a reason? Perhaps when the next version of LTE is out (Edge>3G>4G>LTE), that they won't be allowed to throttle unlimited users?

When the promotion is over, it's over. After seeing the thread I called in and upgraded to the 15/30 gig promo. But for 20 more dollars I could have 40 gigs. To me, that's a lot.
that would let me actually stream video sometimes and not have to worry. Us data users have always been hamstrung by ATT's pricing. Even the unlimited plan, when I had it,only let me use up to five gigs before they slowed me down, so it wasn't really useful and unlimited.
I'm going to upgrade to the 20/40 gb plan after Oct 2. That is when my new billing period will start. After October 31 any changes will cause us to go back to the original billing amounts. Isn't that right? So whatever we do during this promotional period needs to be a solid decision.
I know that I am going to hate paying for 40 gb and only using 12,but I don't want to be shortsighted on this either.

When they say any change, does that mean adding another phone line in the future will be considered a change? Or are changes simply changing the data buckets? For example, I get the 30GB plan for me and my wife. A few years later I want to add my future child on the plan. If I get him a line for $15 a month, is that considered a change? If so that would be horrible.

I have had my iphones for 10 days now, can I switch to the next plans? Or would I have to return the phones to apple and buy from ATT?

Do what I did and cancel your contract with ATT

Iphone 6 plus on contract 399.99, ETF fee $325.00, Total of $725.00 and your line charge goes from 40 - 15 a month.

Contract - 399.99 ( line charge is $40.00 a month) The ETF pays for its self in 13 months then its free money for the next 11 months.

I got activation waived too btw

Based on the terminology on the signup page, it's only if you switch to a different rate plan after October 31 that you lose the bonus data. Adding or removing lines, etc, shouldn't affect it.

They gained a customer with this. I gave up my Verizon Unlimited for this. I got tired of the hoops for upgrades, no hotspot and looming throttling. We rarely use more than 6GB's but for this price it's a no brainer. I'll use a lot more with the hotspot ability. Very excited. Not excited about the 28-35 business day wait for shipping.

Gave up unlimited for the 30GB plan. The unlimited plan is overrated anyhow, always getting throttled at 5GB and no hotspot for no reason.

Is there a place to see what discounts are available? My company doesn't have one, but didn't know if there was a listing of association discounts and what they may be.

Thnink I may go ahead and jump on this ship as well. Since I have my corp. discount and get 50% off, I will only be paying $25 more I think for the 30GB...Might as well go ahead. Im by myself and have the 10GB plan with two phones activated and never even get close but this deal will just leave me at a peace of mind when not around wifi.

This is old but should be pretty accurate, I believe.

I am seriously considering doing the same thing.

I'm not sure how the new AT&T plans work. Can someone explain?

I have the 450 minutes, unlimited text and data and pay $82 after my discount

How much would my bill increase if I was to get the 30GB plan?

I do have to wonder if they got wind of the FCC shaking up the throttling rules in the near future or something.

I think I will hold off at least until the end of the current billing cycle .

The old plan I was on with my fiancé was:

550 minutes
unlimited text
2GB of data for her
Unlimited for me

Bill was around 160 per month

I was sick of the throttling after 5 gig and she was always going over 2 gig so I felt we had to switch. Now our bill is 210 a month with the 30 gb plan.

Considering of going down to 10 gig and saving 30 dollars each month, but don't know if that's worth it.

Anyone can correct me if I have made mistakes. Below is my understanding of device pricing on a 2-year contract vs. next vs. no annual contract device purchase with the AT&T mobile share data plans.

All calculations below is for an iPhone 6 64GB

2 YEAR CONTRACT

Day 1 device price $ 299.99

Additional Costs ($25 per month for 24 months) the difference in monthly line cost for a 2 year contract price phone ($40 - $15 = $25).

2 year total device cost $299.99 + ($25 * 24) = 899.99 + $40 Activation Fee** = 939.99

** Sometimes you can successfully get activation fee waved

NO ANNUAL CONTRACT

Day 1 device price $749.99

2 year total device cost = $749.99

AT&T NEXT INSTALLMENT

Day 1 device price $ 0 (Tax of full device cost due on day 1 but I’ve excluded tax since it varies by state)

Next 12 Price (20 payments) -> $37.50 per month for 20 months

2 year total device cost (37.50 * 20) = $750

OR

Next 18 Price (24 payments) -> $31.25 per month for 24 months

2 year total device cost ($31.25 * 24) = $750

A NEXT purchase can be paid off, so you own the device outright, at any time after you have made your first two monthly payments.

Thus 2-year contract pricing on a mobile share data plan costs you an extra $149.99 + Activation Fee if you don’t get it waved / credited over the 2 years.

Shouldn't the 30 gb be less than 210?!. It's 130 plus 15$ for each smartphone(if you use your own smartphone or next). I'm guessing you're using the 2 year contract option?

Yes, we have 2 year contract option. Which is why I was considering next since it's only 15 per line.

I'm hoping this is it. I mean you have the FCC Chairman who is basically the top dog in the FCC breathing down carriers necks about the throttling. If that is the case, I would have to applaud AT&T at their genius tactics but lament for all those who lost their unlimited plans.

Thinking this over.

We have 550 plan currently. Unlimited Data
Just upgraded wife to 6
My upgrade is this week.

Currently we pay $135 month after our 24% discount.

After I do 2 year upgrade to the 6 what does my bill look like by going to 30 GB?

That's the question I've got to figure out.

It is not hard to figure out! Simply dial 611 and pose the question to them. I did that recently and they laid it all out for me.

Are you able to do that without actually canceling your entire plan and losing your phone number? If so, can you provide more specifics as to the steps you need to go through to call up AT&T and tell them you want to pay the ETF just to get out of the 2-year contract you're on? Thanks.

I'm thinking that adding a line and would not be changing your plan. However I may be wrong I am far from upper management material. Lol

Your situation is very similar to my situation so I've looked into this exact scenario. If my numbers are right, you and I will pay A LOT more on the 30 GB "deal." If I remember correctly, it's $130 minus discount, plus $40 for each new iPhone (or 2 in this case). Does that look right to you? Did I miss anything?

You could return the 6 you got your wife before the 14 days are up and get both of your phones using next which will bring down the cost to $15 per line instead of $40. Assuming you got the 64gb 6 for both and used next 18 for both, your payment would be $62 for both. Since you would be saving $25 a line this route, your bill would go up only $12 a month...plus you get to save the amount you have to pay upfront to upgrade them for a 2 year contract which for the 6 64gb would be $530 for both ($650 - 120 taxes which are due when you get the phones).

Your bill this way would be $130 for the 30gb data, $30 for both iPhone and $62 for both next payments minus the 24% discount which would come off the $130 only so brings that part down to $99 so your total bill would be $191 plus tax. Tax would only be charged on the $99 and the $30. The next payments don't have tax on them since you already would have paid it when you got the phones. If you do it the 2 year contract way, your bill would Be $149 a month plus tax. You would have to pay $650 up front for both phones(assuming you get the 6 64gb for both). So it really comes down to do you want to pay the $650 upfront or just pay the taxes($120) and break up the payments over 2 years. Good luck.
